I just saw the movie this evening as well. I don't think I've ever sunk so low in my chair as I did with this movie, as I tried to hide myself from the far too many embaressing moments in the story. -----------------SPOILER ALERT?--------------------------- Generally, the glaring fault that I find with AVP is not the action or even the story if you can believe that, rather the way that they executed the story and its characters. For example, both Alien and Predator films envoked great tension and an underlying fear of some horrific event that was to come next. In this movie, the rushed pace of the story cheats the fear factor of the aliens and predators, reducing them to just two sides of creatures trying to kill one another with ignorant humans caught in the middle of the conflict. Heck, even the humans in AVP didn't seem particularly afraid of the aliens or predators. Do any of you remember the way "Dutch" and his squad initially reacted to the predator? Or the way Lambert was paralyzed with fear and reduced to tears in the garage decks of the Nostromo as the Alien cornered her? That of course brings me to another issue, which is the acting. Te-rri-ble. These guys must have been picked fresh out of your local high school drama club, with the exception of Tom Cruise's cousin who played one of the wimpy soldiers. 'Lex, the main human character, did NOT convince me that she was caught in the middle of a galactic war between murderous creatures bent on bloody murder. The other actors/characters were so bland and meaningless that they were literally just "hosts" to give birth to the Aliens. In summary, my greatest criticism is the lack of fear, suspension, tension, drama or whatever term fancies you, as Alien and Predator characters and their films relied on such things to move us and our emotions-it's what has made them so memorable over the years but it is not the case now. I must say that I enjoyed the fight scenes, if you want to call them that. Both Aliens and Predators took a healthy share of killing and being killed, making things a bloodfest, which is the way an encounter such as this should be. If any of you are fans of the games then this movie may at least do you justice in that way, however look for no other means of satisfaction in this motion picture...

Christ. Doesn't anyone research their subject before they make a major motion picture about it anymore? If these goons had just played the AVP games and just went with any impressions received from those games, I'm sure that the movie would have been THAT much better. What were these people thinking? I wonder if any of the crew have even watched the original movies... -As a follow up to my post in the other AVP thread, I am gathering my AVP figures, G-Taste statues and camcorder as you read this...

If I see that in a Wal-Mart I'm so buying it. Maybe they'll release versions that include 1 of the armor types?

Problems with the 5700 Ultra? Well, earlier I had been running in Medium quality and at a low resoloution; I didn't notice anything until I put the game into High Quality mode and a higher resoloution. Even then, the only glitches I get is when I open a door/hatchway. Other than that, the game still runs smoothly for me. -Who here is with me when I say that the chainsaw is the best weapon in the game? -Is there anyone else who's having trouble maintaining their sanity in dark rooms?

Differences in the threads aside, I wish you well and hope that you come out of this one in good shape...

That's quite an ordeal. Have any of you heard about possible action against compact discs? Supposively, an individual could snap the disc into shards and use them in a "malicious" manner. At some point, we will all have to travel completely naked.

Ok. So someone in the victim's camp supposedly stole an X-box? Well, act like a criminal, be treated like one...

NEW(ER) AVP (Aliens versus Predator) Trailer.
myk replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Yeah, the new movie will probably suck, so we should just sit in our homes and play with our AVP figures, imagining some fantastic story that will have us up 'till dawn. Heck, I'll even throw in my G-Taste figures to add a little spice. A bad movie is better than no movie at all. Who cares if it doesn't shatter our expectations of what an AVP/character franchise movie should be? It's a chance to see two of some of the coolest characters in 'sci-fi do what they do best-kill, kill, kill.... -
If "all Macross series" includes DYRL, then I would say that Fokker's death was the most "f-ed" up; considering that Hikaru could have saved him but instead chose to save himself and chase after his girlfriend, an act which of course he ultimately screwed up anyways.... Fokker could have lived!

Computer issue, thought i'd try the MW thinktank.

Unfortunately, there are a number of programs that have problems with the mobile versions of current video cards, such as the "go". Usually, games/programs will state this incompatibility on the box. I would love nothing more than to go outside somewhere, plop down and play a few rounds of DOOM or Black Hawk Down, but it looks like the desktop is where those things will be had... -
I'm overjoyed that my lowly, Athlon 2400/FX 5700 Ultra setup is running the game with no glitches at all. Actually, I was hoping that it wouldn't be able to do so as I've been looking for an excuse to upgrade. AvP2 meets Resident Evil is my preliminary take on the game, although I'm still trying to decide which game has frightened me the most (Avp or Doom). After all, the fright factor is the only thing that could put an FPS title above the rest. As others in this thread have mentioned, there is nothing new or revoloutionary in the game. On another note, I love how the guys at EB ranted about how the game was sold out EVERYWHERE and that fools such as myself who neglected to pre-order were going to have to be left out. I had agreed with them until I walked into Wal-Mart and found their own DOOM3 display with about 50 copies in it.... I'm enjoying DOOM, but I still find myself reaching for Black Hawk Down in its place sometimes...

Count me in...

Shoot, I'll get one. Unlike the "real" thing it won't cost an arm and a leg to purchase-15$ at most. I drew my collectability line at the Low Visibility's $170 price tag...

Gund...er, I mean Silent Service...

I hope there are now subtitles in the "Twin Blood" segment of the set.

Live Speed Racer movie gets green light or
myk replied to Noriko Takaya's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
This idea isn't any worse than the "new Speed Racer" of the mid 90's. Does anyone remember that attempt? They made Trixie into a blond, based the new Mach 5 off of a Camaro, etc. Speed Racer needs to stay in the past... -
The battle with the Ghost was one of speed. Gerwalk and Battroid are modes that emphasize unique situations, not speed and certianly not aerial combat.

I didn't seem to notice this issue anywhere else in the thread, but did anyone see that Mickey Simon reads Playgirl magazine on his spare time? Anyways, I loved the new series although the original OVA ending would have suited this tragic story much better...

Who says video games can't be healthy?
myk replied to Noriko Takaya's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
The only dancing I ever did for video games was when I killed a cowardly Predator as I played an Alien Runner, on AVP online... -
Well, considering the length of the test itself and my lack of patience to finish it, I guess I pass the underachiever-slacker test...

Hmph...As long as the money is rightfully yours then spend it as you see fit-who cares what your parents think. As for your girlfriend, she needs to get down on her.......nevermind.

Opinion: best starfighter designs ever

"X-wing"..... -
I see it as the "preferred" way of telling the events of Macross...

I was flying my '48 Hikaru 1A through my living room, when I just suddenly dropped it. Luckily, even in fighter mode, the only thing that happened was that missiles were all over my floor for about an hour or so. As for non-Macross toys, I remember the day that I bought my GI Joe Defiant, I was driving it home in my convertible and a few parts flew off of it on the freeway-luckily I was able to pull off and retrieve them...
