Opinion: best starfighter designs ever
myk replied to renegadeleader1's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I always liked the thieving Einhander.... -
No, it's not selfish to keep your loved ones alive. It's not selfish to prevent something disastrous from happening to someone you love. It IS selfish when doing so results in the death of someone else. Given a choice to save an entire star system or your loved one, what is your decision? You bring up a great point on morality. However, my response to that question is this: the person that I'm trying to save is someone I know and therefor love. The other beings that would die or otherwise be sacrificed are people I don't know or even care to know-I don't love those people and I never will. Consequently, I would choose what Anakin chose. Also take into consideration that the only people that Anakin ever truly loved were his mother and Padme-both of which he was convinced had died and would die, respectively, because of his oath and ties to the Jedi; it's obvious why he chose what he did. Keep in mind though guys, that Anakin did NOT choose his path easily. Although George Lucas did absoloutely NO justice to Anakin's decision to the Dark Side in Episode 3, the novelization gradually and thoughtfully shows Anakin's painful decision to eventually betray the Jedi Order and their beliefs. Wait a minute....Just a second ago I was a heatshield scrubber....

.............Yeah, anyways, 'just saw Episode 3 for the sith, I mean sixth time and what I'm enjoying is watching episodes 4, 5 and 6 with renewed interest. Suddenly, all of those relationships and stories that George Lucas had seemingly conjured from nowhere have substance. Reviewing Obi-Wan's second and final encounter on the Death Star with Vader was surprisingly exciting, after having seen their duel on Mustafar. What is evil? That's just a point of view, as has been already discussed to death in this thread. As far as I'm concerned, after Vader murdered Padme and he awoke as his mechanical self, he decided that he would continue with his own personal plans for universal domination, waiting for the day that he would eventually be able to overthrow Palpatine-a being obviously far more powerful than he or any of the Jedi Order. I believe that Vader changed those plans however, when he learned of his kids. I might even say that he changed his plans for universal conquest to include Luke during their encounter in Bespin, but I'm probably just reading too much into this thing... Evil? Evil's a label and subject to perspective. Selfishness? I can't actually attest to Anakin's selfishness because Hayden and Natalie's forced chemistry and dead-on-arrival acting was about as convincing as the Publisher's Clearing House Sweepstakes. As for Vader, he just wants to conquer like you, me or any other creature and that's just natural....

Apple ditches PowerPC in favor of Intel

Well, I think that cheaper would be the key term in this situation, right? -
Apple ditches PowerPC in favor of Intel
myk replied to Jolly Rogers's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I don't get it-I always thought that Apple insisted on using technology that had nothing to do with Intel or AMD thus lending to their "uniqueness." -
I would imagine Yamato finally finishing the rescuplted '19FP before they would ever try a ship like the 'SDF. I'm afraid it's curtains for Macross items from Yamato...

I usually don't sticker my vehicles. I've always felt that a clean, naked look would make alot of things more appealing; like my avatar, for example...

Zero was an EXCELLENT story and a GREAT addition to Macross. Every aspect of it was brilliantly done and you would be hard pressed to say that Zero isn't one of the best chapters in Macross.

That's a cute site...They've got all kinds of stuff..

Scalpers/Cherry pickers in San Diego are out of control here. I can almost guarantee that you will not find any of the "hot" figures, although yesterday I did find 2 clone pilots at a TRU-I half exptected Jesus Christ to descend from above and pass judgement on the world, as it is in the scriptures... -By the way, where the hell are all of the '170-Gunships at? I haven't seen one since I bought one almost 3 weeks ago...

What has Peter Jackson done with his life?

I'm not blown away by Lucas' first Trilogy; let's see if ROTS can win it for his second Trilogy. -
All this commotion about Episode 3 has made me forget about my interest in the Lord of the Rings. Just weeks ago I spent big bucks on a Gandalf/Shadowfax deal. Now, it's hunting down clone pilots and gunners...

Have you seen these F-22 Raptor prototype pics?

Hasn't this plane already been deemed obselete/irrelevant? -
That's gotta' be the creepiest concept I've seen in a long time...

Star Trek Enterprise Drawing to a Close
myk replied to ComicKaze's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I can't believe how much 'Trek has fallen out of favor with popular culture so much. I have to admit that I myself haven't really given that franchise much though lately... -
No, no, no. The Evas are supposed to appear almost skeletal and definitely non-threatening, belying the armageddon bearing monster beneath the metal. If any of you can recall watching the anime when it was new, the full capabilities of the Eva units were revealed in dramatic stages spread across the episodes. These combat inspired WOW designs are just wrong... Of course, giving the Evas and the series an "action edge," be it in story line, character or mechanical design will probably garner a new generation of fans and $ for the franchise, so forget everything I said previously...

Well, eventually these pre-teen girls will turn into hot post adolescent chicks, right? -
Right...No, the other right...

I saw the movie almost 7 years ago and it still strikes me as a masterpiece of anime. Enhanced or not, the movie on DVD is a must have...

Wouldn't you rather get blowjobs than toys anyways? I know I wouldn't, but that's just me...

Yoda doesn't actually suffer defeat or give up, he escapes from the battle, realizing that the Sith have become more powerful than Yoda or the Jedi order and that victory over the Darkside would have to wait until a "new" Jedi order could be created with Anakin's offspring. At least, that's what the novelization of ROTS says...

Yes, please, let's cut Hayden through his center and have his torso extended...

The ARC-170 starfighter/gunship and the Jedi Starfighter are both odd designs, but in an appealing way, at least to me. Does anyone have the ARC-170? It's the same size as the FX-X-wing which, in my opinion is THE best vehicle toy in Star Wars history. I'm waiting for the eventual repaints and hopefully a point in time where the Clone Trooper pilots and ARC gunners become plentiful for all of us...

I get your drift, but if you want to talk about military ships, the Enterprise D could destroy 20 of Kirk's little Enterprises with little effort-12 type X phaser banks and 3 photon torpedo tubes are nothing to laugh at, at least in the 'Trek universe. I look at Picard's era like this: the Federation had become one of the most powerful forces in the known universe, so why not parade that accomplishment about by cruising around in a giant sized, weapon laden, ultra-capable starship with your wife 'n kids by your side? Picard's era also represented a sort of golden age of attainment for mankind, and it was so arrogant that it would put families aboard its deep exploration ships such as the Enterprise. I'm sure you remember though, that Q and other entities proved how vulnerable mankind was soon after the 1st season of "pacifism," as you call it. And let's face it-Kirk may have had no official ship's counselor, but without Bones and Spock to lean on he would've been worthless... One question though-what's your problem with peace?

Janeway because that's not a woman, that's a MAN, baby!
