Got some details on how they mod the PS2 over here, basically they solder on another chip, which will result in letting you play all original games from any region and boot games! As with DVDs, well only all coded discs and the region where the machine was supplied with, no multi region DVD player Andy
-
My local shops here in Hong kong told me that the modded PS2 can play all region games original or boot as well as all region DVDs! Whether it will work is another question, maybe trying to hard sell me the console! Andy

I just got my new slim PS2 but am now a little confused with the modding I have read that there are actual modding done to the chip and using a hard disk to play games but what is all this about boot disks? Does it work on all PS2s, I mean also the ones bought in Asia as they only play PS2 games with "J" code games and specific Region DVDs! I am fine playing most of the "J" coded games but still want every now and then play an RPG in English Valk009

The chances that Hasegawa will release the VF-11 is pretty slim in my opinon. If they really wanted to they would have done so when they released the 19 and 21. It looks like that they have moved on into producing Mac 0 stuff and other non series/movie related Mac stuff, such as the Minmay Guard and the Low Vis! To be honest, will Hasegawa stop producing Macross kits after all the releases of the Mac 0 line? There seem to be no indication on what is coming up next! Andy

Yep, you can actually get most of the NES games on GBA nowadays; it usually is something like "118 in 1 games" or "256 in 1 games" with a few new GBA titles and the remaining all NES games. These are of course boot carts! Nintendo then quickly followed suit and released a line of classic NES games in '80s packaging with titles like Super Marion Bros., Zelda etc. I heard that they are also working on getting the SNES games to work. The last I know was that they working SNES games on GBA but no audio, this was about six months back and I have not updated myself with any GBA info

I actually have that game on one of those "all-in-one" game cartridges for the Gameboy Advance handheld! I must say the game is pretty crap, even for the standards of the mid '80s; Salamander, Gradius and 1942 were all far better shot'em up games! My feeling is that all the Macross games on handheld units are really poor; just look at the new version for GBA under the title Robotech or something like that. besides some little better graphics, which is still crap, it is more or less the same old game as the old '80s Nintendo version! Just as Sweekz says, nowadays people buy a harddisk and get all their games loaded onto it. This way apparently is hardly any load time and the PS2 uint will last longer as there is less moving parts contribuiting to wear and tear! Btw has anyone tried a modded PS2 online; is it true that it will not work? Also is online gaming with the PS2 any good. I just got mine and plan to test it out! Andy

I will take a look as it was a while back! I remember a Taiwanese site had many kits on offer for download and also some fellow members here on the forum have it. The monster paper model and the VF-1 Super fighter is by far the best kits in my opinion Andy

Ha, my birthday is on the weekend and I plan to get myself a PS2 too, along with the Macross and few other nifty games I will get the slim version though as I only play games very rarely nowadays but occaisionally one of those great games pop up where you just need to find time and play it Your price of US$200 for a modded PS2 (older version) is very good; that is almost what they are selling for over here in Hong Kong, where everything supposedly should be cheap! Andy
-
Stick with the older chunkier PS2 if you plan to mod it! It will be cheaper and will for sure last longer Andy
-
The new slimmer PS2 is already available modded over here in Hong Kong but apparently it is not as good as the older larger one! If you intend to use the PS2 a lot get the older one, it is easier to repair/get spare parts and the cooling system is better than the successor! When choosing the older one, make sure you get the latest incarnation; this can be verified by the product code starting with something like SCH-... Make sure the nubers are at least 56000 or above (the latest is something like 72000), anything below is a really old machine and has bugs here and there. Some latest invention allows you to plug in a hard disk, load the game onto it and play directly from it - resulting in no boot time and lag!

Hase released 4 different variants of the VF-1 in battroid mode, namely the VF-1, VF-1 Super, VF-1 Strike and the limited edition VF-1 Strike Minmay Guard. They never released any valks in gerwalk mode but should be quite easy to build, kitbashing the fighter and battroid kit! There was a limited chrome VF-0S fighter, a prize for a competition. I was lucky enough to get hold of a few and they are really neat!

I believe BanDai will renew their license with BigWest if it expires. The cost for it will be peanuts for them and then BanDai will basically do nothing with it, just like what they are doing now They will then agressively promote their Gundam product and everyone is forced to buy Gundam stuff instead Btw this is just my own conspiracy theory
-
Wow those Cylones are sure expensive! For that price you can get the big version and the first release Japanese edition and not the American re-issue.

Anyone who bids on his LVs' is either extremly loaded (most likely has a money printing machine in the basement) or a real idiot. Just by doing a little research, you will know that a LV can be had for roughly US$200-250! Andy Let's see who will fall into the trap
-
The variable kit is actually quite fun to build but not too straight forward If I remember correctly they came pre-coloured and it is best to leave it that way unless you plan not to transform it as you bound to get paint chip
-
Wow...have not seen these kits in a long long time Judging by how great the conditions are; could they be re-issues? Andy Btw, who is offering them and how much?
-
I do not believe that guy has all those LVs stashed up That is almost impossible, someone should ask him to take some photos of all LVs lined up and when he cannot deliver, well then we know it is a phoney Andy

The page sure brings back some sweet memories Knowing that it is a British site and survey, it surely cannot speak for all of us but I wonder why some of the toys did not make it, I mean LEGO is a worldwide product and surely most of us had at least one set at some point of time Andy

Adding my Two Cents, "Accuracy and Storm Troppers" are just two words that do not mix well. Just take a look in Ep 4 when a whole bunch of them are chasing Luke and Leia in the Death Star, none of them even made a scratch and talk about accuracy! Andy

I wish I could have made it I am on a business trip and will only be back in town on the 22nd Btw Noel is also coming on the 24th! Andy
-
Well, I will be selling a lot of my prized stuff over the next few days ... ...but will use the money to treat myself on a trip to mother of all anime, Tokyo, Japan...ho ho ho
-
I agree with Skull Leader, tops at around US$450 for a pristine version! Although I like the Yammies, especially the 1/48 line much more; there is definately an appeal for the Taka 1/55 I mean these are like the fore fathers of all Macross toys Andy
-
Put me down on one too! Maybe possibly two! Andy

The idea of letting other trustworthy MW members doing updates etc. is surely a great idea This will lighten up the workloads of Shawn and Graham! May I also suggest an idea of a small contribuition towards the cost of running the site from everyone at the forum will certainly help. This will in return help us consolidate the real fans from the occaisional on lookers and so on, not to mention letting only Shawn pay for all the bills! I belive the most of us will have no problem with it I mean in the end we are a community of dedicated Macross fans Andy
