Bandai/Tamashi Nations 1/100 lineup. 2009 takeoff!
edwin3060 replied to UN Spacy's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Well lets see, if Bandai is going the protagonist route, we'll have to wait through the various movie VF-25s, the various VF-171s and maybe even the Q-Rea before we even get a sniff of the VF-27. Not very optimistic, if I may say. -
That's wayy too negative and even a little illogical, IMO. After spending so much on sponsoring and buying the rights to the show, Bandai is obviously going to want to milk it for all it's worth. And face it, with CAD and CNC, making an anime-accurate DX model is probably not much harder than the chunky monkey they actually produced-- they proved this with their model kit. However, the vast majority of Bandai's customers are young children and their parents, not fans like the people on this board. All this young children (and especially their parents) won't buy a 200 dollar toy that has complex transformation and comes with lots of sharp pokey parts for them to poke their eyes out-- they want something they can smash against the wall and come out ok. The next biggest group of Bandai customers would probably be the Gundam modellers-- these people are more discerning about anime accuracy, and don't mind the complex assembly process required, hence the vast difference in looks between the model kit and the DX. It's just the free market at work, Pete! All of us aren't the primary target customerr for Bandai, unlike Yamato, so Bandai has to cater for a different audience! Cent: I would dearly like Bandai to come up with a 1/100 (if 1/60 is too big) Konig Monster-- it would go nicely with their VF100s line!

I got my DX VF-25F just last week from Angolz, they are pretty prompt with replies IMO. You shouldn't have a problem as long as you explain it I hope!

Nice and innovative use of materials! What did you make the base out off? wooden balls and a plank?

What's wrong with my Yamato, Bandai, etc.

The YF-19 has been sort of re-issued, so even the standalone versions have the straight gunpods and fixed landing gear, iirc. If you're looking for a big gunpod though, you're looking in the wrong place. I think that relative to the Battroid lineart, the gunpod looks a little small! -
Yes, well, thanks for shooting down my attempt at encouragement. Back on topic, hopefully the other VF-25 sheets will give clarification on some of the issues that we've had, although I have a sneaking suspicion that large parts will be copied verbatim. We are still missing some details on what kind of special tuning the VF-25S has and the special battle computer AI that is supposed to help squadron commanders.

replace the black piping with yellow and it would be perfect

The VF-171 was the main fighter for the NUNS for the decade or more before MacF, so yes, it matters, since most of their opponents would either be rogue Zentrans or humans. Mr March: Except that the VF-17 was designed as a mainly space fighter and had passive stealth-- I think we just have to accept that some laws of physics have to be broken in the anime, no matter how much of a military otaku SK is. Besides, passive stealth still does have some uses in space--as long as you don't fire your engines and have sufficient thermal shielding to prevent IR detection. It could allow for a closer approach to the enemy before engagement, for example. Or be used for ambushes. D.D.: I thought those claws were comical, actually-- for something meant to stabilise the Monster against the impulse of the cannons firing, they chose something with so many joints and was so complex? Again, it doesn't make engineering sense, but that animation sequence sure was impressive.
-
Well if that is your reasoning then you gotta wait for the official weathered versions then! I guess people just like their toys in mint condition, even if it is mint weathered.
-
You could always buy it and weather it yourself-- its not that hard/time consuming, and the satisfaction is much greater!
-
On the other hand, everybody and their mother is slapping on RAM on their aircraft to reduce the signature and calling it stealth. So, going by a fairly broad definition of stealth, yes it (and every other VF out there) probably has some elements of passive stealth. Heck, even the feet/exhaust ports of just about every VF out there exhibits a feature of lower observability, which is to use a non-circular exhaust which increases the perimeter of the exhaust, increasing the mixing with air and reducing the infrared signature. Realistically speaking, any spacecraft with such powerful engines can never be stealthed as long as the engines are blasting away --VF-17 included.

Nanase is what I would call in Chinese a 'Hua Ping'-- a flower vase-- pretty to look at but for ornamental purposes only

I'd rather have the VF-27 out in some form soon! Antagonist mecha FTW! -
It's all the Lion King's fault--- once he got mentioned, everything went downhill. Damn you Simba!!! Also, Ranka's chest, or lack of thereof, is actually pretty normal among Asians. Nanase is the one with freak torpedo boobs!
-
I hope they delay the VF-11B.. I can wait, and my wallet can't handle the strain now, what with the excellent 1/72 VF-25 releases!
-
Good for you! You can compare it with the VF-1v2 M&M when they are released then!

Nice! We really need a Yamato 1/60 VF-22! -
I don't play with my Yamato 1/60s as well-- mostly they are just too pretty and I can't bear to touch them so you are not alone! The Bandai DX, on the other hand, I have no qualms about being rough with it
-
Very nice! The multi-storey thing gave me an idea-- ever thought of building an elevator for the runway?
-
Clearly there's a Japanese obsession with European racing cars from the 70s/80s!
-
One thing about the DX is that the parts actually lock together-- Maybe you could make similar peg and hole locks or use magnets in those positions? For example, I think the peg locking the lower legs to the wings would really help for the model kit.

I think it looks great! Your next project should be a 1/144 Daedalus then
