Well, you could spend that 500 dollars to give someone something for nothing, or you could spend that 500 dollars paying someone else (equally poor) who produces a beautiful toy for you! Really, for all the billions that has been pumped as free aid into Africa, the results have frankly, been pathetic. On the other hand, the billions (trillions?) pumped into China for paid laborers who actually work for their money has basically spawned a burgeoning middle class that is slowly but surely creating social change in China. So, you might as well put your money to work making yourself happy and saving lives, rather than lining the pockets of some tinpot African dictator! P.S. The situation with free aid has gotten so bad that you now have african diplomats and educated people actually asking for people not to donate!

Macross Frontier and prior Macross mysteries

That's the part that makes no sense . -
Awww comeon-- Gundam is the punching boy here Gundam is not really about the intricacies of dogfighting or piloting more than it is about big chunky robots moving around! It's not a fair comparison. Overall, I'd say that the whole of MacF has about half the number of good dogfights that MacPlus and MacZero have--the rest of it is just Gundamseque cannon fodder flying around getting shot up action filler sequences. Coming just after MacZero, I'd say it was a disappointment seeing as to how it was 2.5 times longer (in terms of animation time). But like I said, MacZero/+ are OVAs with higher per-episode budgets allowing for more complicated fight scenes to be animated. Compared to the last broadcast series, I'd say that MacF was at least as big an improvment over Mac7 that MacZero was over Mac+ in terms of action/dogfighting.

We have a winner! Still, the multiple smoke trails(animated) from RAM launches would have been pretty spectacular as well-- I remember the Cheyennes in Mac0 launching those massive missiles when the SV-51s were incoming.

Macross Frontier Mecha/Technology Thread IV *Read 1st Post*
edwin3060 replied to azrael's topic in Movies and TV Series
Well, we can clearly see that such debate has some benefits, such as elucidating the limitations of new technology as well as taking old technology to its theoretical limits . For example, without the debate, everybody would still have thought that the ISC was limited to 27.5 Gs, or that every new generation of VFs must outperform the previous generation in every way despite the plethora of facts to the contrary . Really, me playing the devil's advocate in this debate is more about pointing out the fallacies in the reasoning of others than anything else, especially when people say stupid things like (paraphrasing): "The VF-25 will pwn the VF-19 no matter what because it is the latest and the greatest and it is h4x!!!!"-- I have no particular love for the YF-19 series. The VF-27 on the other hand.... -
Well, in atmosphere you have more reference objects and all those cool vapour trails to keep things in perspective I guess. I'm just going from the interviews we have had so far. Also, I'm not sure how much time/money they have to animate cool dogfights in the tv series, since both Mac0 and Plus were OVAs/Movies. I still have hope that they will be able to fit one or two action sequences into the movie-- maybe they could draw out that Alto/Ozma dogfight more, or some Alto/Brera etc. I think Alto's qualification test was probably one of the more spectacular dogfights in the show.

It looks like they either used a van identical to the previous promo itasha or stripped that itasha and redecalled it--which would be a pity. I liked the previous itasha more..

Bandai/Tamashi Nations 1/100 lineup. 2009 takeoff!
edwin3060 replied to UN Spacy's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Well the leg design of the VF-19 kinda looks like the VF-25, with the mid thigh joint to seperate the pieces. I guess it's just how much parts swapping is needed vs whether parts swapping is needed. -
I decided to start a new thread for the newest DX toy, the Alto EX gear figure! And also because I wanted to type DX EX Discuss away! How poseable is Alto going to be? Will he be to scale with the Banpresto Ichiban Figures? (I hope!)

It's amazing how economists or people who think they understand economics can always come up with an explanation after the fact but cannot predict what will happen--which is what their models are supposed to do. But I agree with you Bri-- "The only source of economic growth is the human mind" -- and this is, in fact one of the biggest problems. Because most economic growth nowadays is, in fact, imaginary (and has no real value), we have things like the current recession.

Ouch!

Hmmm I think you should get yourself checked.

Actually, given current technologies, why doesn't the Asuka just mount the RIM-116 (Rolling Airframe Missile)? It has been deployed since '92, so I'm sure SK knew about it when making Macross 0.

Heh it's the least I could do to support this great fan effort! Due to my connection I seem to be able to muster up only ~70 kb/s of upload speed though so we will need more help!

Bandai/Tamashi Nations 1/100 lineup. 2009 takeoff!
edwin3060 replied to UN Spacy's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
That's certainly true, but I don't see how they could get acceptable Gerwalk modes without the parts swapping. The VF-25's intakes are not particularly small, and if Bandai couldn't do Gerwalk for that without parts swapping, all the other VFs will likely require the same as well. Different valks will certainly require different amounts of parts swapping but I think, ultimately, all will require some swapping at least. Edit: looking at the picture of the VF-19, I can already see that parts swapping would definitely be required for Gerwalk mode. -
Wasn't this from Tenjin Hidetaka's illustrated book?

I think I will have to agree with VFTF quite a few several points. The economy was overheated. Everything from the price of oil, to the price of food, to the price of housing etc-- was high. Heck, in less than 6 months from 2007 to 2008 the price of rice that I bought doubled. Also, ironically, governments moved away from a gold standard because the idea was that the state could ensure that the value of money had less fluctuations than when it was based on gold-- of course, that pretty much doesn't work because then you have the whole 'state bribing the people with their own money' thing going on. I've come to think of banks and debt and this whole mess as a kind of game of musical chairs-- everybody's happy when the music is playing, but once the music stops someone is going to get screwed. Similarly, banks are very happy to offer mortgages and people are happy to put themselves into debt when the economy seems to be good, but the reckoning has to come sooner or later. Ultimately I think we've seen the dangers of an unregulated free market-- people will artificially distort the value of anything if they can make money out of it. My friend actually has a layman's measure of when recessions will occur, which seems to work pretty well barring things like war-- he says that major recessions occur every ten years, plus or minus a year. It seems to work pretty well in the Asian context, seeing as to how we had a financial crisis in 1987, then 1997, then now in 2008 . It seems as good an economic theory as any now

Oooh. I guess Yamato's plastics do become enbrittled over time then.

That's an amazing picture!

Torpedoes at 12o'clock!

Well the MacF movie is supposed to have alot more in-atmosphere action so we might get more dogfighting ala MacPlus/Mac0 there.

No, its just the whole quantum Brainwave thing from Gundam 00

The Macross Quarter. DX Chogokin

I wouldn't be surprised if a kit came out. A PG Gundam sized Macross Quarter would be great! -
So thats.. what, 3 cases of the YF-19 neck having problems now? Its surprising that it is coming up now so many years after the YF-19 was launched.
