Macross Frontier Mecha/Technology Thread IV *Read 1st Post*

All bets are off if the time limit is due to the ECA, but, and I suspect this might be the case, if the 27.5G limit is due to fatigue limits, then the g-tolerance of the aircraft should be able to be modelled by a power-law--- off the top of my head the Larson-Miller parameter could be applied as a general simplification. In layman's terms, that means that if it can take 27.5G for 120 secs, it will be able to take 28 Gs for less time, 29 Gs for even less time. etc. It also means that any acceleration above a critical limit will reduce that time limit of 120 secs. I.e. if the VF has already sustained 15Gs for 30 seconds, it will no longer be able to sustain 27.5 Gs for 120 seconds, but less time than that, since fatigue is culmulative. All in all, this whole 27.5Gs for 120 seconds thing actually raises more questions than it answers, which I guess could be the intention -
Bandai/Tamashi Nations 1/100 lineup. 2009 takeoff!

Firstly, thats an AMAZING price! How did you get it for half off on the day of release? Also, as to fighter mode, how does it lock together? Of does it just rely on friction and the lightness of the parts? And how is fighter mode better than both the model kit and the DX? I thought it would be the worst of both worlds, having the proportions of the DX and the lack of locking of the model kit. -

No problem! I hope you have no problems with it... and if you do, just clean the surface of your toy a little with alcohol swaps or something to get rid of the finger oils and you should be fine! -

Hopefully we can influence the Japanese market through such polls -

Phew! As to the legs, the lack of pegs probably means u could force it higher, but it wouldn't stay there---as soon as you lift the thing the legs will drop down again. -

Looks like the back of the leg problem is not solved in the VF100s, but may be even worse because now, unlike the DX, the wing gloves do not have tabs to lock into the legs. Also, the feet can't be retracted for fighter mode? That's pretty depressing! -

So the Damashii line will be non-scale? It still doesn't make sense to release such similar products though-- as it is, the small scale Macross mecha market already has revoltech, GNU-DOU and the VF100s. Why would Bandai want to release another line that would only just enter a saturated market (and might cannibalize it's own sales?) -

Actually it's the other way round! If the ISC was time limited (and could recharge) and the airframe could take greater stresses, one VF could conceivably go to 27.5Gs multiple times in the same engagement as long as there was a wingman to cover for it during the downtime when the ISC recharged. However, with the airframe being limiting, the pilot would max out at 120 seconds before breaking his VF if he carried on any longer. -
For those with both the VF-0 and the VF-1, whats the difference between the hip bars (besides the size?)? I haven't tried to transform my VF-1S v2 yet, but I'd like to know.

The Armageddon one was funny. Wish they could have stick with a single series though, would tie everything in better.

The 120 secs is the fatigue limit for the Airframe, not the ISC. From the compendium: " Maximum airframe design load: 27.5G at maximum acceleration for 120 seconds". Don't get it confused with the second part like many other people do! Which is: "(When ISC operates, the cockpit is protected from high G.)" We still have little idea what the limits of the ISC are--- other than a vague, it is definitely less than what the VF-27 can generate. We definitely have no idea whether the ISC is time-limited in operation. As for the airframe, I'd assume that after that 120 secs are up, it would have to be inspected for damage/repaired/ re-qualified for the 27.5G limit before it can be certified combat-ready again. -

Actually, at 1/60, the 18.72m long VF-25 would be 31.2 cm long in fighter mode-- which is almost exactly a match for the DX toy--- it is the YF-19 that is the wrong size . I think Graham calculated it at 1/55 or 1/58 in the Ver.2 of this thread. There's nothing wrong with the size... the proportions, on the other hand... -
A Yamato VF-22 or VF-17 would be awesome!

Hehe yep--- the Pro-modellers weathering wash is so easy to use that I just couldn't resist--- just brush on and wipe off and voila! Panel lined to perfection. -

We'll have to get the toy to be sure whether it is exactly the F head or not, but don't discount Bandai cutting corners-- afterall they already did that with the 25S DX toy chest and back plate. -

Well, I've had my DX VF-25F for awhile now, and I've only just gotten it to pose properly in Gerwalk mode (see pictures below). It may take awhile, but I think most people who bought the toy eventually do warm to it. Plus you never really need to worry when posing or transforming the toy! So just play around with it, and take a look at the fixes that people have found for the various quirks like the turtlehead. -
About the UN Spacy on the gunpod--- I think that is deliberate-- certainly my VF-0A and VF-0S and my VF-1S v2 have it-- it is so that, looking from the left side, the UN spacy is always the right way round regardless of whether it is in Fighter or Battroid.
-
SWEET!! Thanks for all the scans. Looks like the extremely oversized landing gear may have been a deliberate design choice after all, if the Armoured scratchbuilt is any indication-- I don't think the actual kit will be very different. Looks like I'm gonna have to get them all! Now, if only we could get a VF-27 kit...

edwin3060 replied to UN Spacy's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Yep the gullet is missing-- and I retract my comments about the fixes-- other than the ventral fins, the rest of the toy has proportions exactly like the DX, including the backs of the legs, which is disappointing. Also, going by the lack of weird holes in the toy, I'm going to assume that any eventual Super and Armoured variants will be standalone figures and not add ons. -
You actually need a good materials engineer rather than chemical engineer for these purposes, but like I said, given that a broken toy doesn't actually kill anybody (although I know you all die a little inside when a toy breaks ) I don't see why Yamato should go to additional expense to satisfy the two out of the thousands of people with YF-19s who actually had a little crack on the neck . When it gets to a major problem, like the VF-1S v2 1st issue where something like 30% (according to the poll) of people had cracked shoulders, yes then I agree they should do something to resolve it (and they have indicated that they will).

The ironic thing is, I'm about as different from a hippy as you can get!

Well that's straying abit too much into politics I think so we'd probably steer clear of that! Still, I find it amusing (and a little sad) that despite all the years of research and study and practice of economics, we are still no better off than we were say 50 or 100 years ago. I mean, as a science, economics has had very little results to show. Even in meteorology, they can now predict whether it will rain in the next day pretty accurately, but in economics you can't even tell what is going to happen tomorrow!
