Looking very nice! The models I've seen painted this way always look crazy before the final clear coats and thinned base color goes down. Don't be too concerned if it looks a bit over done at this stage. I think it looks perfect, by the way!

WM Cheng - Awesome to see you start this! I suspect you're going to like the results so much you'll start using this on future projects as well. Can't wait to see how it comes out.
-
Wow! So are you using styrene now and not paper for some of the bridge?
-
You scared me man! I have a payment agreement with HLJ and no money in my PayPal account at present. If they request payment, I'm screwed! I need this extra month to make it happen.
-
Hmmm... My 1J was in gerwalk. Maybe that's why it was easier? As you can see, the custom is more or less in fighter position.
-
Here we go: Fingernail in the crack between the parts: And my thumbnail to spread it farther: Interestingly, the 1J at work was more loose than my assembly version (which I've yet to finish...)
-
I will do exactly that, as soon as I can.

I was so interested in offering some quick help that I didn't even consider the fact that you can likely get one pin in without prying it open. Which means you really only need to do this on the one side. Good luck! (Update) In fact, I just popped one out on a VF-1J sitting on my desk at work, with nothing more than my thumbnail to pry open the "claw" around the pin. And then back in - no problems. If you lack nails, a stiff object, filed sharp, like maybe the edge of a credit card, will do the trick nicely.
-
You could try to carefully pry open the piece that the flap's pins go into. First one side, wedge in some sort of spacer to keep it open (folded up paper?) and then do the other side the same. You could then push the flap back where it belongs. If you got it out without the part breaking, you may be able to get it back and not break it too. Based on where the screws are, you're a good enough distance from them that you should be able to provide force to spread open the area, without over stressing the screwed area. Just go slow and be careful.

Exact same mold or are there some differences between this and the last release of the Brera type?

Wow - stellar talent on display there, Frogze!

Nice!

Who are you and why have you stayed away from this site for so long? That is incredibly good and well worth the wait to see the bigger, closer photos! Big thumbnails? Exactly how they should be. Very, very nice work!

I was stupid and watched this week's episode before seeing AoU. Not that it was overly spoilery, but it wasn't great for someone who's stayed away from any and all spoilers up to this point.

I think shapeways is still your best bet for these. Veef's in particular. I've got no idea how you'd go color matching it to a 1D though.
-
I wish I had those super parts... To anyone opting to do what I am, and painting up someone else's supers to match, and then throwing the 1:72 bandai assembly kit ghosts - it's a LOT of hassle and likely not worth it unless you really love to build and enjoy modifying and color matching.
-
Tell me you see it, man!
-
That's the first I've seen of the fighter mode. Can anyone tell if it looks any different to the original releases?
-
You never know, maybe they've learned a thing or two in this Macross toy business after all. ...Nah! I'm in agreement with Jenius and Spanner though, the extra month is good for my PayPal account.
-
Or realised that gap at the back is atrocious? Probably not...
-
LOVE it!!! Keep up the great work. There's nothing quite as iconic as a VF-1D Gerwalk!

1/48+fp's, 1/60+fp's, 1/72, 1/2k, 1/3k,1/100 and now 1/144

That looks incredible, Chyll! Very, very nice work. -
That's the way I was leaning as well. It makes more sense to me, at least.

I'm more bothered by the tip of the warning extending past the panel line, to be honest. But yes, definitely noticeable when comparing one side to the other.
