I agree completely, Veef. I'd also ad that it's great we have access to this stuff at all, being outside Japan. But I did say they're entitled to wonder. That's like an opinion on the subject. Sure we're entitled to it, even if it's not correct. In this case, I'm merely pointing out that people are questioning why the decision was made. Turns out it might have been made because it is correct. Wouldn't that be funny? Just for the record, I don't mind the blue anymore. There are enough arguments for it being accurate that it's not an issued to me, personally. It's not like they changed the gray to orange or something. It's a low-viz scheme, with some pretty muted color accents that looks an awful lot like what we saw in the anime it's based on.

You mean there's an area of the forums where people don't talk about the toys? Seriously though, folks care a lot about a toy that costs $300 plus and are entitled to wonder why some design choices are made. And to be fair "the people over here" who don't venture into the toy section, care just as much, if not more, about tiny nuances of the back story, history, and main story of the Macross-verse. We've got threads that are far more in-depth regarding "how stuff works" for fictitious stories and mecha than I have often had the time or pleasure of reading. We're a passionate lot and I think that's a good thing and I'm happy to be here amongst so many diverse but common interest folks.

Well, I'll be...Not only does that look blue for the fins, and is clearly different than the fast packs/conformal armour on the legs, but look at the hands in that gerwalk pic, second to last. All this time I thought the VF-0 series hands didn't retract, but they certainly look like they're retracted in that pic. Thanks for going to the trouble to post those, Treatment

Your most recent Macross or toy purchase! General thread.

Exactly. I don't like the 25S at all. Until it's suited up, then I love it! -

That is an absolute steal! You are one fortunate individual. Nice pickup! -

I'm not into the 25S, but only because I cannot afford the armor. If it was available for a good price, I'd be all over it. So, super jealous of your purchase! -
Awesome! Thanks to both of you for these. Those are substantially cleaned up and should make for a slightly crisper print, if your printer is up for it, of course.

I can upload a scan of my Hasegawa sheet, just like I did in the Bandai thread. I'm sure there's some sort of copywrite issues there but I'm justifying it by only including the consoles. That said, happy to take them down if there are any problems. For the record, the ones I used in my VF-25 and YF-29 are from the Hasegawa VF-25F/S kit.

Good stuff! Glad my efforts can get others to experiment a bit. I've done my VF-25G, YF-29 Isamu and now my VF-19Advance. The hardest part was cutting them out to fit. Going with a real decal would simplify things a lot! So that was ink jet printed? Looks really good and the detail is great, especially given how small that silly thing is.

Absolutely a sharpie would work. Even a black ball point pen would. In fact, that might work better because there's less chance of the ink bleeding. I'm still hoping someone can clean this uonin illustrator for better scalable printing. I did a test run in word today because I have nothing else that allows me to shrink this high resolution images down to the right size. Surprisingly, it worked!

Here's the best I could do today with a very shoddy setup and lighting. If anyone has Illustrator skills, this could be cleaned up a lot. And yes, that's as rough as those little lines really are. The measurements, using a very rough ruler are 7.5mm x 3mm. If I were using my micrometer (which isn't here) I'm sure I could get more accurate dimensions. Bear in mind, the 3mm does not include the little red and yellow items sticking up above the console. (click for 1600px wide version) The "backseat" console is this one: And by backseat, I really do mean that the instructions on the Hasegawa kit call for it being mounted on the back console, facing the front. It must be part of the "see through the cockpit/virtual setup" that the YF-19 was all about. Anyway, I don't plan to use it because I don't think it's very visible.
-
I'll do that but I want to get a good scan. My scanned copy is not very sharp. I might take a photo of it with a macro lens I stead and upload that.
-
Seconded! And if Hasegawa or some other toy company does not take note of the awesome in this work, and produce, well something, I will be shocked.
-
I scanned my Hasegawa 19 decals and then just printed them at the highest resolution I could get out of a color laser printer at work. The only real drawback is the white edges of the paper. But I think it looks OK from the distance I tend to look from. The cockpit is so visible on the 19, that it's really good to have something there so any effort "up front" pays off nicely.

MJ - Top notch work, as always! So you darkened the fold crystals but left them blue, right? Also, that sensor window looks flawless. Very, very nice work, knowing first hand what a pain that is to do. So am I correct in noticing that this version has the boom for the beam guns in the correct color? Shame they couldn't do that for the Ozma variant.

That looks great Chyll! Didn't even think about the VF-25 instruments. I used the ones from the Hasegawa YF-19 and the fit was good but it looks like yours is even better.
-
Oh man... I totally feel for you.
-
^^This, exactly. Mine were a massive pain to get on initially but once I worked out how to get that hardpoint alligned, it actually became a slight issue to get them off!
-
Have you seen my tip (and others) about there being 3 points of connection on the booster? The obvious ones at the top and bottom of the wing root, and the less obvious is the inner weapons hard point in the wing itself. The wing has to be in the right position to engage it but once you get it, it's very solid.

So, anyone have any ideas?

Yeah, the sad truth is, just because a product might cost more than a competitor's, doesn't mean that company is making a lot of money on it. I hope Arcadia's Macross products continue to get produced and I hope the profits eventually justify the tooling and investments that would make customer expectations a reality.

Looks like the only sideways articulation the "real thing" has is in that joint where the backwards knee is. It's labelled "rotation motor" in that posted image. You wouldn't get much of a kick with that arrangement though, more of a swinging karate chop with the lower leg, I'd call it.
-
How very interesting. Seto, all due respect but that's no 9X being fired. Hey, you can't get every detail right, 100% of the time. In fact, it's not a real sidewinder at all. The nose looks different to an active 9M/L and the fins have no rollerons. Looks like a CATM-9 with some active color bands applied to it. And yes, this is highly nitpicky because there's no way I'd ever see that if I were actually watching the video.

Thanks! I do too. I'd love to actually finish my NSAWC custom but that's probably still months away. Lots of other life things to get out of the way first. In the meantime, it's my one and only VF-1 and not a bad one to have, in my opinion.
