Not much at all, Moosey. You have to move the legs out of position to get the leg armor on but the stuff up top just clips onto the arms. Same goes for the chest armor.

Scratch Building/Model Modification Archive Thread
mickyg replied to Dax415's topic in The Workshop!
Does it really? I was looking all over the place for tips on what I should do and after failing to find anything, figured I needed to think outside the box and come up with something on my own. I'll have to look into that modelling manual - I recall seeing it a few years back and thought it was a very nice thing to have for builds in the future. -
Same here. Used it exclusively on a Bandai VF-25 1:72 model kit. It's transformable but I didn't dare try it for fear of not breaking, more than anything else. I didnt clear coat it beforehand but did after. I've had very good luck with both products. The opaque stuff is very good on its own, as it gives you more time to position the decal. The clear stuff will melt a decal into place, even after it looks like it's dry. For the Bandai decals, it sometimes was too "hot" for its own good-Occasionally marring the surface of the decal. Keep in mind, on acrylic paints, especially Mr hobby aqueous paints, both products seem capable of softening the paint, even after it has fully cured.

Xigfrid, that paintwork looks exceptional! What was your technique to achieve that mottled effect?

I absolutely love that you can paint the micro missiles one colour, and the container fits over them, allowing white missiles and gray base to work really well. This will be much easier to paint!
-
Do it! I was hoping you'd chime in with your opinion on this kit. I know of nobody else who has spent as much time on the intricate details of this thing, quite like you have.

mickyg replied to frankell05's topic in Fan Works
That is very good! Pardon my ignorance, but which movie were you to referring to? -
How does calibre relate to an energy weapon again? That confuses me greatly.

Macross Δ (Delta) - announcement thread
mickyg replied to renegadeleader1's topic in Movies and TV Series
I think the logo looks like two deltas, facing each other. Almost like the image of the fighters, actually. Hmmm...- 2715 replies

Scratch Building/Model Modification Archive Thread
mickyg replied to Dax415's topic in The Workshop!
I had to dig way, way back, but look at the thread I started a long time ago in this page, about half way down: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=36983&page=2 Quick response, fighter mode is really the only issue. And only non super/strike, for that matter. And man, I need to finish that kit! -
And this is a VERY cool toy. Nice move, B.

As far as I'm aware, the two on the outside are essentially the same thing. I'm not sure if the applicator brush is any different between the two, but they're both the sort of glue you use to fuse plastic after you've assembled it. It has very little, to no extra stuff that stays behind after it dries and it dries very quickly. I'm not familiar with the one in the middle. Is that the citrus scented one? If it's just plain old liquid cement, that'll be one that has a bit more "stuff" in it (usually some form of acrylic suspension) that adds a bit of bulk to the bond.

Mine is the same way with the larger tab. But I noticed the larger tab is actually proportional to the rectangular depression in the wing root. So technically the smaller tab is the one that is wrong. Strange molding discrepancy either way. I find the round raised part is more of an issue on my boosters. I've had them fitted a few times and one is definitely way more misshapen than the other, suggesting a poor fit on that booster.

Man, so many details! Love it!

Apology NOT accepted. We definitely need more forward thinking (and thinkers) like this these days. I couldn't agree more with what you're saying. Absolutely agree that inspiration is lacking in a lot of what I commonly see. I have to believe that it still exists and is alive and well somewhere but damn if it's not much harder to find these days than it used to be. So no, I think you should definitely not be apologising. Celebrate that way of thinking and use it to get sh!t done, I say. Well said. Just in case I was vague.

Pretty good assumption there Mommar...

JB0 - you totally need to write a synopsis of every macross episode and movie ever! Seriously, your writing style and methods are so spot on and entertaining, I for one, would read every word! Plus, a synopsis of the series would help me sell macross to my uninitiated friends better. Seriously though, I love your perspective and ability to sum it up so well.

I hear ya.... As I recall, the SV-51 was not nice to get into either. In fact, it sort of reminds me of the 171 as far as "difficulty to get apart after things break" is concerned.

A Newly Translated Story: The Plundering Fleet
mickyg replied to Gubaba's topic in Movies and TV Series
I read it and thought it was a very entertaining story about Macross history that I wouldn't have known otherwise. I appreciate the effort you've gone to in doing this but not only that, your willingness to share it. I think the fact that a few have expressed a neutral reaction to it (if I can label it that way) is not indicative of the quality of your work, or even of the story. In a word: Thanks! In a few: keep doing what you do because it builds and adds its own threads to a rich universe that I personally enjoy, even after 30 some years. Your work is very much appreciated. -
The one about why Arcadia products are so expensive? Interesting...

I don't know. I get it. I know some customization tricks and have used them to great effect on some toys and models as well. But these days I just don't have the time. So seeing something I've been waiting for for a very long time and knowing I'll need to spend a lot of time "fixing" it is a real bummer. But it's definitely not hate.

I don't understand why it's needed at all. The plastic cap needs no bonding agent to the metal part in any way; the socket should hold the entire assembly together just fine. Boggles my mind. Although, judging by the pic chaotic yeti posted before, maybe it's that way due to the plastic part being slightly bigger than a hemisphere? But again, why do it that way?
