STAR WARS Merchandise Episode - 2

Wow, looks like all the Star Wars stuff on Amazon is still subject to the recent Disney restrictions. No item I've added to my cart will ship to Australia. So sad... -

That is outrageously cool! ..Both the 1/144 kit and the sunshade. -
$307 AUD. Ouch. Still went for it though. I remember the days when the Aussie Dollar was on parity with the US Dollar. Seems like a very long time ago but I think it was only about a year. This exchange rate hurts. It helps to know that the Yen was much stronger then too, though. Our dollar seems to match the Yen pretty closely, actually.

Sorry, I didn't word that very well. I didn't mean the whole head/turret, just the barrel of the canon itself. It has a pivot at the base, so it cover an arc. If it pivots away from the gears when they deploy/retract, it will be out of the way. The only aerodynamic impact would then be the barrel moving into the air stream momentarily while the landing gear is in motion. But given the much bigger size of the gear, I doubt this would cause any issues. I was late to the reply party here and see there's been quite a few more posts in the interim. And most importantly, as the OP mentioned, this is for a VF-1S so much of my discussion is moot, as the 4 barrels are not in the way at all with this configuration.

It's the same on the yamato V2 toy with the VF-1A. You have to pivot the laser away from the fuselage in order to deploy the front gear. I'm not sure what this would mean in aa real life situation but always assumed itd be the same. Would there be any real world penalties for doing it this way?

I'm actually excited by this one, along with the price. I'll have a chance to get one for a change.

Wow, Eggy! I didn't know what "real touch" was until seeing your customs. I've now learned how they work and what they're for and man, if that's not a really great way to do shading if you don't have (or don't want to use) an airbrush! Excellent results. Thanks for sharing your work!

I couldn't tell if they built on the ability for the wings to sweep. Roy's look more swept than Hikaru's in one shot.

The term gets overused often, but that thing is truly awesome! It also looks like the ASS-1 at this point. Or what I always expected it looked like.

I think he means the SDF-1. Yeah, the VF-25 looks great!

My immediate thought after hearing how they are still working on it, and aware of some of the issues was, "oh no, and all sorts of folks are already cancelling preorders." Maybe this company has the ability to address some of these issues before release, unlike some of the bigger players?

Exactly. I'm not loving how much is given away by trailers and posters these days. It sort of kills the fun in many ways. But as has been pointed out already, unless you want to hide under a rock 6 months prior to a major movie release, you're bound to see things you'd rather not see. What can you do?

It was a fun little project. I still would like to finish it as this was just very roughly airbrushing two shades of grey onto the parts and calling it a day. There could be weathering, panel lining, and a whole host of other enhancements to do, if I could find the time.

Yeah, in the movies, any time a CF is wearing armour, it's grey, not purple. The purple is the colour used in the TV series, but only the VF-171EX types (the white ones) had armour. It's very confusing. And in my opinion, would be a simple fix for Bandai to just recolour the armour packs for the CF versions. I mean, they already include the wing parts with hardpoints, so you can't argue the production cost would be too high. It's just different coloured plastic, for Pete's sake!

That looks incredible! Can you describe this "Negative Shading" you mentioned? I haven't heard the term before. Do you start with a dark base and then airbrush the lighter colour on top of that?

That looks like pretty much what I did. I don't know what they used to fill in the old notch but I'm glad I'm not the only one who considered the leg alignment to be a bit of an eyesore. -
Your most recent Macross or toy purchase! General thread.

I've always liked the look of Gundam mecha but this one is just insanely beautiful to look at! Do all the panels open up one by one or is there some mechanism that does it all in one fluid motion? Either way, I love the pics! -

Good luck! She's easily one of the most attractive, "built for space" Valks around, in my opinion. Here's hoping your triangles are intact, and if not, "I know a guy" who has a few spare shapeways ones from Xigfrid's shop.

I have one mighty block and for the smaller things like a VF-1, it's really great. Anything bigger though and it's just not big/sturdy enough.
-
Besides, they never showed those stands transforming in the anime, so...
-
My guess is they'll include the stand as justification to up the SRP a fair bit. Still looks beautiful though.

That's a mighty fine display you've got there! I especially like that VF Modeling Manual for ideas on how to dress a valk up. Nice one!

In my opinion, anything that's as close to "how it originally was" is bound to be worth a bit more. I can't put a dollar or percentage figure on it, but I'd certainly be more inclined to purchase something that had all the stuff it originally came with, including the box. Or boxes, as the case may be. So, for what it's worth, I keep all my Tamashi boxes. If nothing else, they keep the inner boxes from getting worn.
