    This greatly excites me:
  2. Thanks man! I'm all about DIY! I've got some ideas for gun blast effects as well, but I may be getting ahead of myself.
  3. Funny story... On new years eve, some street vendors were selling these nasty, knock off light sabers with a string of LEDs in them along the length of the "blade". I bought two. During my photo shoot session, I thought it'd be fun to wave them around in the background and let the slow shutter blur the lights. I had the camera on a timer already, to minimise vibration from my hands. It was hard to make it work without bumping the subject and took several attempts. I'd also liked to have posed old sniper valk a bit more appropriately, but hey, it was an experiment. So in short, its light (sabre) painting.
  4. Finally got a decent lighting setup so have been having a bit of fun with posing and experimenting with light sources. Alto's clearly heard enough "advice" from Michael about women:
  5. That put a genuine smile on my face and got an honest laugh. Nice work. I can't understand that comment either? Honestly, where they going to give them minimal screen time in the next movie? I'm interested in what the rest of that comment originated from. There must be more to the story.
  6. Well now... I wasn't interested but now definitely am! How'd they do that?
  7. Sounds awesome and I can't wait to see what you cook up!
  8. Looks like the Scorpion version of the HMCS to me, as the "normal" JHMCS doesn't have that cable running out the top of it (that I'm aware of). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helmet-mounted_display - scroll down to the Scorpion variant, put out by Thales. Also note its use in the A-10C. Also, I think they are used more for targeting aid than in an A2A role like they are for the Viper and Eagle drivers. I'm sure they can be used for that, but I'm betting they're a very useful tool for the sniper pod and any other A2G tools the A-10C is using.
  9. Probably THE dumbest question yet, but how does he see out of those "eyes" on the suit? Is there ever any explanation given in the comic for this? I'm obviously more curious how he does it in the real suit, given the lack of CG in his promo spots where he's wandering around random neighbourhoods, chatting with folks. The eyes must not be quite as opaque as they appear to be.

  11. Sounds very familiar! Welcome to the Aussie YetiStand club, Nedragdnuos!
  12. They do indeed get hot. Not so hot they'd warp though. And I've done a quick teardown a few times now after they've been fully hot, and they're usually cool enough to handle within a minute or two. They're most definitely not high end, so maybe the more expensive ones are designed better? I'm also doubtful they're really 135watt, given how prevalent "sure, we'll put whatever you want on the side of it" manufacturers are these days. Either way though, they most definitely do the trick for my needs! By the way, you guys who do all the cool poses with your valks before you immortalise them in pictures, I have newfound respect for you! Posing the sniper valk around that silly light nearly drove me nuts! Get the leg right, the light falls over. Pose the light the way I want and then try to position an arm or leg, and a piece falls off. Get it all correct, then bump the table and the light falls over again. Good grief!
  13. Saburo, some incredible pics, yet again. Nice way to kick off the New Year! I got a new toy in late last week and have just now gotten a chance to play around a bit with it. It's a light tent setup with 3 massive lights to (hopefully) get my pics to a new level. The investment was modest and I'm wondering why I didn't do this ages ago. Anyway, Saburo gave me some great tips and I think you'll appreciate this quick shot I did handheld when I was setting it up this evening: I'll have more to share in the coming weeks, now that I've got some decent light sources.
  14. Nice! Do I or don't I? I'm still holding out hope that they'll release an armored version.
  15. Loving your work here!

    Bugger. Order stop again...
  18. It already looks incredibly dynamic and realistic - can't wait to see what the finished scene will look like! Very nice work.
  19. Yes, it's 3 pages back, but I was wondering when this would get brought up: That line was AWESOME! Felt like a total wink to the fans of all the secondary machines we've seen in Macross. Very nice touch indeed.
  20. Not sure if it's just my mobile browser but the images didn't load up in any kind of logical order. I didn't realise it was off till I'd read all (18?) pages. I kept thinking, "none of this makes any sense!" Anyone else have that problem? Beautiful work, Kyle!
  21. I like the look too! And since real aircraft show that effect when photographed, it works on all levels. It's coming along. Mostly outdoors and landscape stuff in the last few months. Haven't done any indoors stuff in a very long time but I'll be working on that very soon. Might PM you for your thoughts while I'm at it.
  22. I'll offer some thoughts on this one. Are you using your polarised lens filter for these shots? In my few years shooting real airplanes at air shows, I've seen plenty of "rainbow canopies" on real jets. But only with a polariser on my lenses. What you're seeing is something to do with the way the light is scattered through the plastic in the canopy. The polariser only lets light in at certain angles and is responsible for that rainbow look. Try it without the filter and you should see less of the rainbow. Funny, but yamato's rainbow tint was actually something you would only ever see on the real thing if you were wearing polarised sunglasses or had a filter on your camera.
  23. Finally got some time to watch (the subbed version) and really enjoyed it. After reading all the comments, I actually expected to feel neutral or maybe even negative about it. I was pleasantly surprised. For me, Macross has always had a fun element to it that I can't quite describe. But in the midst of a serious story (mankind getting wiped out, enslaved, mind controlled, to name a few) there's always this feel in the stories that engages and entertains. Delta feels no different. Yes, there are some wild concepts here that need to be properly fleshed out - those boomerangs and the fields they project are incredible and downright "magic" looking. But in the past, when we've all wondered about similar "wizardry" we inevitably get a plausible explanation about what's happening. The vajra and their fold communication and adaptation comes to mind. Anyway, I enjoyed it and am on board for the series for sure!
  24. And what did you use for the chrome? That looks stunning!
