  1. Never realised how small the Cats Eye is. Lovely work there!
  2. We used to have Safeway here in Australia, and it was all bought up by Woolworth's not too many years ago (or was always owned by them and then changed names finally). Funny. In the US, Safeway is totally gone, right? And I'm not certain that either company (Safeway or Woolworth's) is actually related to its US counterpart.
  3. It sure is! From the bandai x-wing set in 1/72 scale. I think the 1/60 valk may be a little small.
  4. I can't recall for sure, but I think the black "things" on the back of the missile bodies aren't fins but exhausts for the rocket motors. With the idea being something similar to thrust vectoring but OverTech style. Having said that, I can't find anything to back that assertion up. Maybe they are housing some sort of fin?
  5. I'd jump on a Hasegawa model kit too! It looks like the toy makes this even more confusing, in that all the missile parts are slightly different shapes. From Jenius' site:
  6. I hadn't noticed those before, even though I'm sure I've seen the pics before. I see what you mean now! Yeah, they should be white a the very least.
  7. I was always under the impression that everyone knew they were missiles. The Yamato (now Arcadia) toy has these as removable items, even. True, the colour isn't terribly distinct from the rest of the airframe, but you get that on the real thing, too. If I recall correctly the AIM-120 AMRAAM is usually painted FS36375, which is the same as the lighter colour on most US Navy Jets. EDIT: These are practice rounds, but you get the idea:

As much as I want to jump on this, something tells me at least a few will be available around release time from HLJ and considering I have a few preorders with them already, I think I'll risk waiting so I can save a bit on shipping. CD Japan, while a great price (really, it's surprisingly good) is still $90 shipped. And they don't do any form of SAL to Australia, unfortunately. EMS and Registered airmail are the only options for us here. And there's only about $7 between the two ($23 or $29ish depending on Airmail or EMS).
  9. Thanks! Good info on the shoulders, I suspected you went that way for a reason. And I agree. Funny you mention the gun. I recall saying the exact same thing about some of.your pics a while back, thinking you'd matte coated all your valks. My secret is the same as yours, polarizer filter. In fact, looking at yours you've just posted, its got the same look now! Polarizer filters are cool! Don't worry, I will stick with Canon. Too much invested to change now.
  10. Loving these kits! I'm sort of working on the T-65 and T-70 concurrently and have lots of photos to take. But these are here on my computer, already uploaded: I'm using Mr Metal Color "Stainless" for the head dome but the rest are decals. And the tear in the top blue instrument hatch is due to how tight the parts fit. I tried to put it all together and snapped the dome on in the wrong orientation, not knowing it'd fit so tightly that I wouldn't be able to rotate it after the fact. The torn decal was luckily all that went wrong with that little assembly mishap. Oh, and a sandy brown acrylic wash for the panel lines.
  11. Michael finds a new weapon of mass destruction to woo the ladies: "Well well, what's this?" "Klan will be speechless!" And something I've been playing with building lately, with some scale comparisons: "Hello there, little fella." "Bleep, bloop, beep, beep..."
  12. His pics really are that good, aren't they B? I already had my camera gear but I was inspired to do more and invest in some quality lighting as a result. And even though I'm a die-hard Canon fan, I'm mighty tempted by some of Nikon's recent offerings. Nice purchase on your D5500. And yes, take some pics!
  13. One more from another shoot: I have a few more to upload but I think they'll be better in the "strike a pose" and "On the workbench" threads. Another item that's come up since playing with these guys - the VF-25 backpack hinge pieces. In Saburo's pics, they look as though they're almost parallel to the ground. I'd always thought they were supposed to be angled down from the front to the back, and had been transforming them this way for a long time. The only problem with this, is that it severely limits the way you can pose the missile boxes on the shoulders. Has anyone else run into this issue and is there really a "right" way to pose the backpack/wings on these things?

Same here... I hope this means that they're incredibly popular and that we'll be seeing a lot more of this stuff. Even if it is annoying hard to get at times.
  15. Outstanding! Love the work and your pace is amazing as well. How you get so much done, so often, is just fantastic!
  16. Thanks for the Macross Compendium links, guys. I guess I should have worded my question a bit better than I did. Chronology is one thing, determining which source discusses which aspects of Macross history is what I really meant. For example, all this talk of the Protodeviln (PD) and how they're connected to both the Protoculture (PC) and Supervision Army (SA) is I think covered in Macross 7 but I must admit, I either missed that when watching the series or it's covered in additional material outside the TV series. Finding that info and knowing what series it's covered in is really what I was getting at with my previous question. So chronology is important, yes, but what is the source for that info, is probably the better question. And no, couldn't find much on the compendium about PD, PC or SA. But I may not be looking hard enough. Very fascinating info you guys are discussing at the moment, by the way.
  17. Is there a timeline of all the major events in Macross? I'm finding it a bit difficult to remember/keep track of all the themes introduced. For example, I keep hearing that the SA where somehow related to the PD but all this time I thought they (the SA) were the PC! Eeek!
  18. I still can't believe it's got anything to do with Paper... What's your day job, Nyankodevice?
  19. Just wanted to take a moment to say thanks for this link here. I'd heard of "White Reminiscences" before and had even had a passing interest in the story, a few years back when you first mentioned you were working on it. I thought it was a few simple stories about Misa and quickly forgot about pursuing it further. Boy did I miss out! Now, I know you covered a lot of material in that blog post and admittedly, this is the first one I've read. But wow! I'm so impressed with the richness of the story here. Both on its own, and also as a means of fleshing out who Misa was, beyond just the "uptight old lady" of Macross TV. Ha, old at 18... At any rate, this story painted a very nice picture of life, not just for Misa and her family, but it had a very nice way of describing the world at that time as well. The translation work was very nicely done and whatever clunkiness there might have been to an English reader, simply isn't there now. I don't know much about translating from one language to another but I do know subtlety, mood, atmosphere, and the general "feel" of a peace can often get destroyed in the process of translating it. You have done the job so well, I felt like it was actually written in English from the start! So again, a sincere thanks from a fan of Macross since the early '80s. I'm reminded again why I like it so much and why I did as a little kid. Great story, incredibly well thought out, right down to the childhoods of some of the central characters. Shame Roy wasn't the subject of one of these sorts of background efforts... Any of you who haven't read some of this stuff, do yourself a favor and jump into it!
  20. True, but he wants 1/72 and maybe for very good reasons. Space? Fitting in with other models? All things to consider, as good as the 1/48 is and all. As for dream model, I've bought some sets from them for things other than macross and they're actually really good. Certainly worth a try.
  21. One can only hope! Nice to see you doing this, Jeff. Looking forward to how it comes out. I'd had similar thoughts about doing one for a Super RVF but that was before Hasegawa released its Super Messiah kits. Since they've also done a VF-25G kit now, I'm guessing an RVF can't be too far behind.
  22. I've built both. Nice work on the 25F. In my opinion, the Hasegawa kits are absolutely worth getting. I wouldn't describe the plastic quality as brittle. Compared to Bandai, it's definitely different. But the Bandai kits have a lot of ABS in them and ABS is definitely more flexible than PolyStyrene (PS) plastic. That said, I've never had a part crack on me during assembly. Unless you're talking about cutting it off the plastic sprue, in which case, yes, that can happen with small thin parts. As for panel lines, you'll find them less deep, true, but I also think this looks a lot more accurate. And the details is exquisite, even compared to the already nice Bandai kits. Glue is a prerequisite, yes. But I think you'll find it's not as scary as it looks. The kits are engineered very well and gluing is pretty logical and often concealed. The only thing I'd add is that painting is generally a must. You won't find giant decals/stickers in the Hasegawa kits to fill in large areas of different colour like in the Bandai kits. But I recall even Bandai didn't give you markings for everything, so perhaps this isn't such a problem for you. In short, grab a Frontier Hasegawa kit and you'll see what I mean!
  23. It's in another thread, but the part was found, as I recall. Shouldn't be any further cause for alarm.

    Bandai DX VF-31

That's why it excites me. I'm a sucker for model kits before the toys. They're often smaller, always cheaper, and in many cases, capture my favourite mode: fighter. But I'm hanging out to see the DX toys as well.
  25. I don't see scale but 10cm is mentioned. What's that, about 1/200?
