I don't know. Considering all the diecast and the complexity of the parts (joints, small parts, moving parts, etc...) I still think it's a pretty well priced toy and far more reasonable than what they're asking for with the Strike VF-1S they've recently announced, for example. But that's my opinion based purely on those criteria already mentioned. But I'm with you on the scheme - would love it that much more if it was FB 2012.

Wait, did I miss this somewhere?

And what did you use for the instrument panel? I don't think I saw that on the sticker sheet that comes with it.

Nice pilot name there, too!

I spent a very long time on my VF-25G and after it was all said and done, swore I'd never transform it and left it in Fighter mode. A year or so ago I forgot about that promise and started to put it into something other than fighter. The thing was so floppy and so difficult to hold while moving pieces around, I quickly gave up. And then remembered my earlier promise. Also worth pointing out - I was very, very gentle with the assembly process, but still managed to break a joint in the knee area. And this was just during assembly, not when attempting to transform it. They look great but the effort to get them done has turned more than a few seasoned modellers completely off of them. Lolicon and WM Cheng, to name but a few. When the DX renewal toys came out, I couldn't wait to put the model kit experience far, far behind. I still have my model kit in the display cabinet and it still looks great, but I have very little desire to build another one.

I completely disassembled the foot on mine and it's a very nice, somewhat complicated piece of engineering. I don't think it'd be difficult to modify the joints a bit. I did notice the ball on the end of the leg had some residue on it, almost like a clear coat had been applied to it, straight from the factory. There are screws that seem to have some impact on the tightness of the joints in the ankle. The "toes" though are mounted with a spring pin so I don't think there's much that can be done to tighten them up. Well, maybe future/super-glue would work here? Overall though, very beautiful and quite complicated design, transformation wise. Not in a frustrating way, mind you. I actually quite enjoy the process. The whole thing appeals to my desire for a high-end transforming toy from the shape, down to the way it transforms. I still think this is a pretty impressive toy. The loose joints are an issue but I can't say I've been that frustrated by them yet.

Bandai Macross Δ Mecha Collection Small Scale Plastic Model Kits
mickyg replied to IXTL's topic in Model kits
Can't say I'm surprised. BUt to be fair, that's a pretty close up shot and it's probably nowhere near the sort of scrutiny you'd get if looking at it on a desk. I've got lots of ideas for painting this thing whilst also using the stickers... -

Yes, where the missiles poke out, it's angled back from the "wrist" on the TV version. It's got a bevel on both sides of the pod for the DYRL version. It's very hard not to see once you compare them. And means every time you see it done "wrong" (HM series, I'm talking to you) it can really grate. -
Fair point, Noel. But we're talking about perceived value here. For a lot of folks, they're going to look at the cost, vs. what you get in the box and won't think for a second about who it is that's making it. X toy for xx price is the end of the mental exercise. And comparing the VF-19Advance to a fast packed VF-1 is going to leave a lot of people scratching their heads. IF Bandai do a DX VF-1, based on the pricing of their other DX toys, it's going to be very tough for Arcadia to compete with. That's the bigger picture I'm seeing with this release. Regardless of whether or not I think the price of this new bundle is outrageous. Incidentally, I do not. But I'm from the camp that thinks about the manufacturer and their production methods and previous pricing, etc... Do I think Arcadia quality is much better than Bandai? In other words, is the perceived value significantly higher for Arcadia and thus, worth paying extra for? Nope. But I do understand why it's this way.

Very nice wide angle look to that pic, Spanner!

I expected as much... I was hoping we'd get something for the "Aether" though. Bummer. -

Here ya go: http://www.mech9.com/2009/12/172-vf-25f-armored-messiah-valkyrie.html Translated and everything. Nice one Kajnrig! I think that's the source for the translated version, even. -
And the landing gear look great!

Doctor Strange, in theaters November 4, 2016
mickyg replied to azrael's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Wow - not gonna lie, I've just gone from "meh" to "I've gotta see this" with that trailer. I know nothing of Dr Strange as a character but that's a pretty cool way to introduce him.- 94 replies

Ditto! I'm also constantly looking at it and wondering how it'd all work in a larger scale, with perfect transformation. The "head" would need some clever mechanisms to come together and hide all the joints, for example. Overall, it's a great little toy that lets you appreciate the design of this huge, iconic ship, in palm size!

That collarbone looks NASTY!

Thanks for chiming in guys. I'm talking serious rubber fitment issues on the tyres. Like, they come off from the pressure of the valk's weight on them. They also seem to be covered in some sort of grease though. I'll try wiping them off and seeing if that helps at all. Great pics, all!

Macross Δ (Delta) - Mission 2 - READ 1st POST
mickyg replied to azrael's topic in Movies and TV Series
Nice grabs there Kajnrig! I think it's a Gerwalk and not some new form of Battroid. I don't think it'd make sense to go halfway to full Battroid and simply stop there - cool "new" mode notwithstanding. The legs and arms are too well thought out for it to not have a fully chest/head transformation.- 299 replies

You're probably very close, if not spot on. Time will tell and this is certainly nice to see.
-
Well that's very interesting and welcome news. I wonder what price we're looking at?
-
I did, and couldn't find any obvious way to get it off. The screw that is so incredibly apparent in the Promethius doesn't seem to release anything, either. It looks as though this part is secured with glue and the screw is there to clamp it together. Removing it did nothing.
-
Proof that perspective does indeed make a difference: I guess that wide "nose" on the SDF-1 was always due to how giant this was supposed to look. Get close enough with a wide enough lens and it looks the same. Loving this little guy.

There is that whole inconsistency when you try to pronounce AT-ST though. Atst doesn't have the same ring as atat. Then there's my 7 year old son who pronounces it "at-walker" when referring to the AT-AT.

I found many of them available second hand (ish) from the likes of Jungle and Mandarake, but the shipping cost was always stupidly expensive. With a big retailer like HLJ or even HobbySearch, this should come down a lot. I know the kits are heavy so there's merit to the high shipping costs, but to pay nearly $50 for a kit that is about $75 was just too much. Looking forward to lumping it in with stuff I will be getting anyway. That's my hope, at least.
