Can't help but be thoroughly impressed by the Hasegawa battroids for zero. I had no idea they were that well articulated!
-
The complexity there is mind blowing!

I think it's polishing compound.

Looking forward to seeing your progress. I've got the RVF kit too, also to rob the ghosts. And I'm also contemplating doing the RVF in a more traditional scheme too. Start with the RVF!

It is most definitely one of the strangest head designs ever on a valk, as far as I'm concerned.

These are incredible Mazinger! And they at least look to be in scale with each other too!

Bandai Macross Δ Mecha Collection Small Scale Plastic Model Kits
mickyg replied to IXTL's topic in Model kits
My favourite part is pulling the tape off after painting. Did that this evening and was mostly happy with the results. The masking fluid is awesome but if you apply it to haphazardly, it can leak into nearby nooks and crannies and it's tricky to remove. Anyway, here's progress. I am wondering if I should start a different thread or just park them here. Really just want to showcase how nice these little things look when a bit of effort is put into them. Buffed with a cotton swab and then regular tissues (which actually worked better): All the tape after removal: Bottom view (with stickers for the dark areas): Top view: Closer view of the canopy area. It's not perfect but it's also not bad for dabbing masking fluid on with a toothpick! I managed to get all the masking stuff out after taking these pictures but it was not easy. Very strong, very accurate closing tweezers were required. -
Love those! Looked at a whole stack of those optical illusion type things on one of those time wasting sites last night. Very good timing. And yeah, just goes to show how much lighting and contrast can play tricks on the eye (or brain).

It does indeed! I meant APC generically though, as in "Armored Personel Carrier"

Never noticed that APC in detail before but it almost looks like it could transform. I guess that would be really cheesy though...

Bandai Macross Δ Mecha Collection Small Scale Plastic Model Kits
mickyg replied to IXTL's topic in Model kits
Finally finished masking and got some paint on last night. I'm using Mr Metal Color "chrome silver" thinned with Mr Color Leveling Thinner in about a 1:1 ratio. The whole thing took two drops of paint to two of thinner! Some of the masking is humbrol masking fluid, the rest is Tamiya tape. Top: Bottom, with one side already painted: Two views of the finished top side: I applied masking fluid with a toothpick to the canopy area. We'll see how well it turns out after I remove it this evening. Mr Metal Color buffs really well so the sheen you see here will become more brilliant and smooth after I go over it with a cotton swab. I hope it's thick enough to not completely disappear after buffing. -
Ah, I understand now! I was thinking you were unfamiliar with the F style head in general. I had no idea there were any differences between the DX and model kit. Thanks for pointing that out.

Now I know where that YF-29 Dual Beam Cannon came from! Completely forgot about these in SW. Very nice weathering on the droid, by the way. Looks like he's ready to go find some Gungans! Arbit: Never did see Space Batleship Yamato but seeing your model all done up how it is, I'm VERY interested! Some (hopefully) constructive criticism: That speaker sticks out on what is otherwise a beautifully done show piece. I may have missed this before, but are you planning to hide it somewhere? Amazing work and a real inspiration to those who are timid about starting something they're unfamiliar with - still can't believe the journey you made in electronics from the start of this project till now!
-
Model kit, though it may be, that's still what the 31F head looks like. The DX will look the same.

Pulled mine off yesterday to have another look at how the front is held on and I can't see a single screw to get at, nor can I see how they closed it up at all, for that matter. Must just be clips and glue, I guess. Anyway, MJified canopy and sensors look awesome. Will definitely have to try something on mine at some point.

Those look great MJ! I still wish they'd released some ghosts for the RVF-171. Maybe it was redundant, given the fact they were supposedly the same between his VF's. -
A lot of coatings block UV simply because of the refractive properties of the clear polymer chain in the chemical itself. So while it may not be specifically sold to block UV, it's an added benefit of many clear coats. I'm actually not sure which ones don't offer some sort of UV blocking effect.

One could argue the SV-262 is the most beautiful design! And don't forget, in Frontier we had the VF-27 as well. I love that thing! And don't get me started on the SV-51s - yeah they're strange looking but they look menacing and very cool to my eye. I know what you mean about some of them though. And in the end, it's probably a decision along the lines of "bad guy needs to look like bad guy" really. Also, you have the added bonus, in the case of the VF-27 and the SV-262 that they don't need "real" transparent canopies. The VF-27 was flown by a cyborg, with the ability to almost "wear" the VF-27 and "see" a full 360 view at any time. The SV-262 is similar but relies on cameras and a feed inside the cockpit.
