  1. Thanks mate! That's pretty much exactly what I did. I think I scanned the part and practised with paper to get the angle perfect beforehand but otherwise, same exact method. Good sanity check.

    Thanks man!
  3. Nice work NZEOD! I may have asked you before but what method are you using to straighten up the legs on the Hasegawa kits? I've got a half built VF-1D I started years ago and I ended up plugging the slot and cutting a new one, if memory serves. Seems it was fairly straight forward to do it that way but you may have used a better method.
  4. Focslain, I'm assuming you're talking about the Reaction missiles from the series, right? I'm in the same boat. We get the DX toy armour sporting the missiles as an inclusion, but the model kit release doesn't have them. Doesn't make a lot of sense...

Did I miss a post where you mentioned your source for these? Would love to know.

Very nice Hardreturn. I like the depth of field and sharpness in your photos especially. You must be using a wicked F-stop to achieve that sort of sharpness that far into the frame. Very nice!
  7. Those are just madness! The first thought I had was, "How do you prevent them from breaking?" so I guess that must be something you have to take into consideration. NZEOD, that EW VF-1 looks sweet! Such a logical conversion for the two seater.
  8. Been following this thread for a while, hoping this would be something amazing. After all, the Mospeada designs are what brought me to this site in the first place, specifically the Cap's huge and astonishingly well-done "big" Legioss he created many years ago. But since I first became a member here, and started my toy collection (a Bandai 1/55 'Origin of Valkyrie' Super VF-1A Hikaru) Mospeada has lost a lot of its original gleam for me. Not sure what it is but I'm leaning toward how much better engineered all the current series' mecha seems to be. There's always been something that caught my eye about the Legioss (or the 'Alpha' as I originally knew it) but it was always totally wrecked when it was translated into toy form. Legs were too massive to hide in fighter, the arms too boxy... I think as cool as this effort is by ET, the physics just aren't on the side of a physical representation of this thing as a toy. Well not yet at least. I must say though, that I'm glad ET had a stab at this and even more glad that folks more die-hard than I am are continuing to keep ventures like this running. I hope we get more in the future.

I've never been a fan of the VF-2SS but that's because I never watched MII. You guys posting the HMR version though makes me appreciate these mess of angles and curves for the very stylised machine that it is. And Lolicon, the work you've put into yours just makes it that much cooler. Really like what you've done! And agreed, definitely reminds me of Yukikaze. The downward angle of the nose is mostly to blame I think. That said, I like that futuristicness of the way those designs look. And yes, I just made that word up....
  10. Did exactly that, just prior to your reply. Wow... Must budget now. I see many possibilities now.
  11. You mean there are competitors to Silhouette now? Awesome!
  12. About time! Been wondering when this sort of thing would become possible. Opens up a whole lotta possibilities for decal printing now that simply wheren't there to the home hobbyist before. Couple this with a Silhouette vinyl cutter and you're set for almost anything!
  13. I owned a Nora version for a brief time and my thoughts were similar to what others have stated for the 1/48 VF-1s (which I've never owned): much thicker panel lines, less tight tolerances and generally, engineering that simply looks a bit simpler. I'd guess the best comparison is just looking at the Yamato vs Arcadia VF-0 though. Seems they had similar improvements. I'm predicting the same furvor as was shown for the "new" Phoenix when it hit.
  14. That sounds great MechTech! Congrats on the new career - not just a new job, a whole new career. I'm excited for you and I have to admit, encouraged when I hear about folks making a change. Gives me some hope for something along the same lines in the future.
  15. Sorry, I should have added that I know nothing beyond WSF as that's all I've ever been able to justify in terms of cost. But @Sanity is Optional your recent results with the frosted material prove that spending more, definitely gets you some amazing results. I can't justify the cost (still) but once you factor in the time it takes to prime, sand, repeat, it's actually not so bad.
  16. Looks like these are coming along nicely, Sildani. Don't worry too much about the grainy texture. This is just what Shapeways WSF looks like. It's a very tough material too, so don't think so much about removing the 'bumps' in the plastic, as much as trying to remove the paint from the 'valleys' instead. You'll of course remove the tops of the bumps too but the real goal here is to fill in the low parts with the paint. It's definitely a tedious process though and nobody should expect these printed things to arrive completely smooth and perfect after ordering. We're just not quite there yet with the technology.

    Do I see reaction missiles?
  18. Still hoping we see a missile pack for the supers too. And a 31E, and A...

Who said it's not doing well? I don't think we've seen any proof of that yet. If our members here are any indication (and unfortunately, they're probably not) the line is doing extremely well! We'vehad releases of all sorts of goodness so far and I don't think there's any proof HM-R is suffering that I've seen. In my opinion, if it weren't going well, we'd never have seen the Missile Regult due in December at all. Just my take on things.
  20. Very nice result! Are those stickers or the water slide decals you've used?
  21. First of all, nice looking build there! Second, if I can jump on the back of what MechTech recommended, I'm not sure he's suggesting airbrushing the other shades. Maybe, and that's certainly an option. But the wargamer figures often get done up with the ol' hairy stick. the shades are just brushed on over the base coat. I'm sure some level of dry brushing can work here too. I've had paint spatter too and it's often a pressure vs paint consistency thing. Not thin enough or the pressure is too low. But there are other possibilities too and definitely needle cleanliness. All things to experiment with.

Slightly O/T for the current discussion of these beautiful 31A pics but has anyone had this issue with the forearm guns on their 31s? My 31C has a gap between the gun and the forearm on the right only. I'd love to be able to take it apart and fix it but I don't see any method to get at the gun without breaking it. Leaving it as-is is an option but it's fairly noticeable...
  23. Has anyone ever made the comparison to the VF-17/VF-171 Valkyrie designs? They're about the closest thing to a Legioss that I can think of in the Macross universe.
  24. Nice! VF-143 is one of my favourites! I have an old 1/48 Hasegawa F-14B I started a long time ago with the CAG bird in mind.
  25. Beautiful Saburo! The way the light is hitting those lasers on the head, it almost looks like they're hollow.
