Robotech and HG License Debates
Einherjar replied to TheLoneWolf's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Sounds like he cares more about pushing your buttons than getting into debates, Seto. Your responses are always informative, but he seems to take more pleasure in screwing with you than anything. I'm surprised you even bother going back there from time to time if they want to be that way, and not even throw down warnings or the ban hammer for that crap. -
Robotech and HG License Debates

To fans that hanged to every word from HG and Palladium's spokesperson or "mechanical expert's" mouth, yes, but most of us know better. Now almost all of the experts are gone, even Macek, and the people left rarely talk about the specifics people want to know again and again. They're there more for the fans' business than anything. Meanwhile, fans are left rummaging through an official website that's been stagnant for years or buying overpriced RPG books and toys with the same quality they've always had. Then there's the option to learn Japanese to understand official books that may have little to no bearing with Robotech canon, but gives the universe it a more modernized, fluid appearance. But even then the die-hards still refer to it as "non-canon" or "an alternate continuity" until official Robotech experts come around and put a label on it. Like the story they're still hanging on to is any more legitimate. So what's the point? -

Besides MEMO1DOMINION who actually attempts to do something for the series and fandom, most of the people there seem like useless ungrateful fans. Their situation may be unique, but would it kill them to contribute something more worthwhile besides X vs. Y or why didn't G do R despite being a borrowed animation problem? They must rely on people like Seto in gathering/translating material about Macross so that they can give it the Robotech treatment or some strange association with Robotech and take pride in keeping it relevant. You could say they're just using you to get all the "inside information" they're too lazy to find themselves, because Harmony Gold and Palladium aren't as reliable anymore. You know the saying "Ignorance is bliss," maybe they're just waiting to get rid of you and eventually call everything labeled "Macross" as non-canon and other nonsense as soon as Robotech makes its triumph return. -

Didn't they decide to turn Khyron into a Protoculture fuel addict rather than a guy who loves booze in the later episodes and novel? Maybe Bodolzaa needed a wired boost after seeing Rick and Lisa kiss. -

Does this article circa 2002 still apply to what's happening with HG and Robotech today? http://www.robotech.com/news/viewarticle.php?id=87 I assume this was written to avoid potential backlash from the Animeigo release of Macross TV series and etc. Since then a lot has happened to potentially change this stance while they won't admit it (Shadow Chronicles), making the Hollywood route a last resort move if the legal issues really did have an effect on the rest of their plans. -

They still strive on DVD, toys, and RPG books. That's the only recent merchandise they still sell and come out with new stuff for the franchise. It might be still showing on the AnimeNetwork. Recently, they made a fuss about Robotech being shown again on SPACE: The Imagination Station in Canada. It doesn't sound like a big deal to me, because by now wouldn't people get sick of watching the same 85 episode show ad nauseam? About Seto Kaiba's post: It makes you wonder how much of the Robotech dilemma HG told Tobey Maguire and co. before they handed over the rights. It might help the LAMR they're now stuck with promoting over other works if they finally go over the details regarding the legal issues that could make or break everything. -

I don't remember most of them turning personal or deadly serious in recent memory like that one. The mods usually act before that happens. But we're never serious here, well, maybe in this thread. -

Fans definitely have issues surrounding Robotech in general. At least that's what I got from the online community of a dozen or so die-hards who apparently can't stop talking about it. -

The Army of the Southern Cross might have had a specific, yet flawed, goal in the military. They were meant to defend Earth from alien invaders and uprisings, but it was kind of stupid when they relied too much on ground mecha while the generation before was more diversified. They did have air mecha though, even one "Veritech" that some fans think got destroyed before they were able to transform every single time. -
Who's the biggest horndog in all of anime?
Einherjar replied to Wanzerfan's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Makoto Itō from School Days. He's either that or the most deadly horndog in all anime. Maybe a hornbag too. -

Wow, that's stereotypical, even kind of racist outside its context of the story by today's standards. The concepts haven't aged well. In retrospect, HG made a poor choice for material to use for an epic that could stay relevant with the times. Among other reasons, I guess that's why they've shunned the Southern Cross portion ever since. -

Epic? The main story outside of the expanded universe focused mostly on Earth getting razed multiple times. Lots of people in the later generations failed miserably when it came to safeguarding the most important things for humanity. It took one lone Martian, who knew very little about Earth to begin with and may or may not be a space racist, to fix 2 generations worth of mistakes. But then we learn humanity shot themselves in the foot yet again by making a deal with the devil. Well, at least they got back a ravaged Earth and kicked out all the current aliens from the planet. Back to square one? I don't know, humanity in this series seems to be full of fail after the Macross generation. -

Robotech and HG License Debates

I'm kind of irritated too at the rationale people make about the multi-generational thing working well; the expanded universe material. It's as if they expect people like me to seek out all these comic books, novels, RPG books, etc. to understand how they got to Shadow Chronicles. It does sound like a marketing scheme for newbies to pay attention to all their old crap, not because it's enjoyable, but more because you'd be completely lost without it. But it's pretty much useless now because of the giant retcon that took place. Unless you found everything from online sources you would have wasted so much money on stuff that has little to no relevance to what you just saw. But it sure gave the illusion that the Robotech universe was huge, doesn't it? -

It was a pretty grim and disjointed future even if things had to go to hell and back and hell again for drama. They had the habit of discarding a lot of people once their usefulness was over or they weren't popular enough to keep alive. But was it really worth it with all the unfortunate implications that the method created (older fans may know more about them than me)? Ex. The Rick Hunter attempted mass murder accusation, currently retconned for those reasons. -

That's why the Armageddon choice is there. But seriously, I can't see much of a difference between Betty and Veronica to choose between them besides their money. Also, do you really want to see a guy like this getting married? Role model he ain't. -

Actually Harmony Gold, or at least Carl Macek, released other anime to the U.S. using similar techniques as Robotech with varying results. This is where the groundbreaking part comes from. There was an edited version of Fist of the North Star film using a different ending that the Japanese crew rejected, a dub of Windaria that changed the overall tone of the film, and the confusing cut and paste job of Captain Harlock and the Queen of a Thousand Years that made it almost incomprehensible. They've probably made a name for themselves in Japan by now. -

Yeah, it would be like Robotech and its fans learning nothing from everything that has happened to the franchise and the anime industry, which moved away from their methods of releasing shows, in the last 25 years. If this were a time before the anime boom, plans like that would have worked, but they wouldn't be taken seriously if they tried to pull something like that today. And it's not just a problem creatively; nowadays creators have a better understanding of how much their animation can be worth overseas. In addition to reworking whatever they get, HG would have to pay a lot more just for the rights over animation and the material that comes with it. I also assume HG is now a notorious name in the industry as well, so it can be even worse for them to go this route because of their history with groundbreaking entities in Japan. -

Special forces in the Macross universe

Seriously? That's almost the same story that had. -
I thought this little tidbit was funny and is probably going to be BS. One of the longest running love triangle stories of all time is supposedly coming to an end very soon. http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/30846812/?gt1=43001 A lot of people criticize Alto and Mylene for not picking anyone in their love triangles, but they're amateurs compared to Archie. He's kept it going for almost 70 fracking years. Guess the writers finally had enough of doing this crap. But if worse comes to worse, it could end up being another troll moment for the comic book.
