  1. I'll take a guess and say everything about Southern Cross. He did start that Robotech Masters vs. everyone else debacle.
  2. It's part of the strange dichotomy with Doug. He doesn't believe in Macross or Mospeada products but hates, among other things, anything Toynami Robotech related. I kind of see Doug as a barometer of what not to do if you want to devote a lot of your time on any venture. In the end he may never be satisfied with whatever comes from Robotech. It's a relief that, last we heard, HG isn't catering to fans like that anymore if they're really doing something with it. I guess that's progress in some way.
  3. Even with him being the only one left, I think Doug has insulted far too many people on his show to get any Robotech/HG personality or anyone else of importance to seriously consider planning an interview with him. It makes plans for any kind of online promotion for future works more difficult than before without things like the RDF Underground and Space Station Liberty still going on. At least those guys had more composure and were grounded in reality. I guess all franchises are likely to have people like him. The whole deal with him reminds me of similar people from other fandoms, but at least they had some spark of talent.
  4. What kind of stuff has been worth listening from Doug in the past about Robotech, Jasonc? His interview with Tom Bateman was the last one I could care to remember.
  5. Well, I didn't want to do this, but here's Dougbendo in the flesh:
  6. Guess that's why recently they've settled with using a lot of distractions during convention panels to keep fans interested; free stuff/prizes, PowerPoint presentations, voice actor and HG crew guest appearances, a guy with a huge tuna head hat, etc. I admit that kind of stuff is fun to see the first couple of times, but with anything, eventually I'd like to see some concrete evidence that progress going on if they say they're doing something. At least two years of doing this is a bit much.
  7. Years ago it was the only way people knew whether or not work was actually going on with Robotech. The rest of the time it was the regular "We own everything in Robotech," hubbub on rt.com and convention panels that revealed nothing. People are always excited about waiting for it though.
  8. If this isn't a stunt to increase sales, I wonder how the comic will be from now on? The slapstick could still be there, but wasn't the love triangle one of the important parts of the comic? Hopefully, they don't pull a Quesada if it doesn't work out.
  9. But didn't those take years to reach a decision though? Then again, MS was always active while HG isn't doing much except banking on a movie.
  10. Here we go, stuff on the original plan for Robotech II: The Sentinels for anyone interested: http://www.robotech.com/community/forum/re...&forumid=11
  11. I don't know, Hollywood's approach to an adaption of anything recently has left much to be desired. Since HG made a big deal about Robotech on the big screen, they should take the plunge first and let it backfire on them like always. I remember either the RPG books or online fans making the Orguss Battroid part of Robotech as well just for that appearance.
  12. To be fair, from what I've heard they did try to bring in some character development not found in Macross, although some of it can be considered TMI and fan disservice material. For example, Britai got into a relationship with someone and it may have been too explicit in the novels. And does anybody know the whole story of what happened with Minmei in the novels? They made it very clear that the best relationship she was ever in was always with Rick. It was also clear from her and other characters' treatment that they mattered more in the Macross era. But that stuff about Robotech III seems excessive. Geez, they really wanted to keep Rick Hunter alive and past his prime for narrative purposes.
  13. Just a theoretical event; if the Go somehow becomes the standard PSP system, what happens to all the UMD games and movies I bought if I can't play them on it? Will I have to buy them again as a download if they move even further away from the medium?
  14. Crap, now I really can't buy it after investing on the games on UMD. If the Go surpasses the PSP 3000 in the future, Sony better find a work around for older owners. It makes all the games I bought less useful now.
  15. Depending on my mood, anime can insult my intelligence, but I usually wait to see where a story is going before I criticize. Also, I diversify my interests beyond anime with some sci-fi, some comic books, comedies, etc, so if one is failing me there are others to fall back on.
  16. Second Story is already out for the PSP, $30-$40. The shocker in Till the End of Time was almost a game breaker for me. I almost got all of the trophies before I got lazy.
  17. With time travel involved at the end, wouldn't that make Robotech a convoluted xanatos gambit started by Zor or his cloned relative something and Minmei?
  18. That would've made a good allegory to the oil crisis in real life if they followed through with it better in Shadow Chronicles. Protoculture was a rare fuel source in Robotech, right? Yet somehow from secondary material they were able to spread humanity through space, maintain an armada and/or at least send a task force to fight other aliens in another part of the galaxy with the only producer they had.
  19. I have no idea what the official story is either, but there are complications with it or something. They are either fueled by fusion reactors or Protoculture fuel. And then there's the extra stuff from the novels and RPG books.
  20. Rush Hour 4 - ∞ Manos: The Hands of Fate II
  21. I remember Shadow Chronicles relying on similar cliches and homages, but they had to work around certain issues and with the rest of it not completed yet it wasn't executed as well. Plus, Frontier actually had the privilege to do those homages because it was an anniversary show and it all originated from Macross' roots anyway.
  22. And the winner is... ... ... ... ... ... http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/30983247/?GT1=43001
  23. This site haven't become like 4chan yet, has it?
  24. For die-had fans, isn't that the standard response to any new Macross material released specifically because it's not labeled Robotech? It might also be a personal bias, because he's totally fine with everything not Macross, even new Gundam and new Speed Racer (film included). Anyway, he might have been screwing around with Doug just for kicks too. Who knows? I remember MEMO mentioned wanting to do something along those lines before. If HG continues to keep quiet about Robotech, a new or enthusiastic fan is bound to get the "brilliant" idea to retcon the material into Robotech anyway for completeness sake.
