  1. Layman's terms translation: People are taking this crap too seriously.
  2. I don't think they intended to show the Macross TV series anywhere on the U.S. except maybe The Anime Network owned by ADV Films. HG's always holding out to show Robotech anywhere to prevent that from happening. It was another reissue of the series so they had to offer something new to get people to buy it again. Too bad they didn't have Animeigo standards when they worked on the thing from scratch. Just like what happened with Shadow Chronicles, maybe they should have spent more money on quality control and stuff that really mattered rather than getting big name icons on board for VA work and marketing purposes.
  3. I'm not even going to ask how they made that work. Knowing that there's another original version of each Robotech era out there is as far away from realism as you can get.
  4. I always thought HG wanted to turn Robotech into a giant space opera, no nonsense epic or something of that nature over the years; more Star Trek, Star Wars and etc. references/derivatives added in addition to whatever was there originally whenever they could. But to put more focus on boobs and the like on an official animated film which is meant to be seen by the entire fandom, not just people willing to pay money for supplemental in comics or sci-fi novels to continue the story, it's kind of a step back. The comic book stuff I can understand because, despite what people say, it's mostly additional merchandise overseen by the creator(s) but mostly done by other people. They shouldn't be taken as seriously since all of this began with animation, which is now the story ironically with that and the novels non-canon. Also, HG doesn't have the money or guts to give it the Japanese merchandise treatment. Guess that's why the most you'll see from HG themselves are mugs, t-shirts, and key chains. Why do you think they bring over toys and stuff made by other companies months later rather than make original things? EDIT: I don't know if the Macross crew made any promises like that. It might be why sequels are all over the place in terms of mood.
  5. I know, just wanted to be equal opportunity and stuff for a change. Also, I too prefer real women.
  6. The funny thing about the description is that IIRC those features were how the audience was introduced to Maia in the first place. She had no lines and the film just had a shot of her bent over showing off her assets while working on a plane. Of course it was from Marcus's POV, but still an awkward introduction for the character she turned out to be unless it was a shout-out to her sister's, Dana, antics.
  7. So, for the past year or so have any publications outside Asia talked about MacF? Not online stuff, just some of the few video game/anime/comic book magazines that might have been interested in it.
  8. Just to balance things out, there are also a lot of ugly men in Shadow Chronicles. I can't tell if they wanted to make almost every man in the RDF chunky or buff in those spandex uniforms.
  9. Okay, so Maia is a more useful version of Kim Kardashian in Robotech. You know the girl famous for having a big ass and a sex tape. But seriously, like all the other characters introduced in Shadow Chronicles it would help if we knew more about who she is. Sheryl got an entire series and Maia got an incomplete film, tie-in comic, and a paragraph in an art book. All we know so far is that she's supposedly a Sterling daughter, an alien hybrid, a competent pilot, and has a noteworthy ass (but not a sex tape). Unless THAT ass is one of the only things the crew wanted us to pay attention to while we waste time and money watching the thing.
  10. I heard rumors that fans worked on it, which was strange because I thought professionals are usually called in to work on official material like that. Anyway, how much of the material mentioned in the art book was entirely new and not rehashes from Mospeada and etc.? Was there anything regarding cut material or stuff that the crew wanted to do with the film that could give hints about future works? Just wondering what they were trying to accomplish with Shadow Chronicles and where they wanted to go from here before the backlash(es).
  11. Oh yeah, I forgot they released an art book for Shadow Chronicles. How did that turn out?
  12. I've noticed that both names are interchangeable to identify either series by people outside of the ongoing talk about it. I guess even to this day a success in the Macross franchise can be seen as a success for Robotech too because of their identical "roots." It's just being dragged along for the ride because of the Robotech's past and present creator's indecision to associate or distance itself from the original(s).
  13. My point is that while HG was trying to get their act together, during one of the many upheavals the franchise faced, people on both all sides of the world moved on to over things. Robotech hasn't changed since the 80's except for the cliche darker and sexier sides of Shadow Chronicles.
  14. Sure there are some; Exosquad, Heavy Gear, Battletech, Invasion America, Red Planet, Wing Commander, etc. Note that these and others were released when nobody was minding the store at Robotech.
  15. I think WB helped commission those because previous works for both showed that the franchises were profitable enough to consider them. Plus, the Matrix was already inspired by anime works while Batman had the successful animated series in addition to Begins. In Hollywood's eyes at least Robotech hasn't proven itself to consider spin off material like that yet since the LAMR is still in some stage of pre-production. Still, it might be an option if turning it into a 3D or animated work makes it easier or cheaper to produce. EDIT: Actually, Robotech 3000, The Untold Story, and Shadow Chronicles could be used as examples for Hollywood to take into consideration.
  16. Geez there were more cameos in this film than I thought. R2-D2 Spotted Hiding in "Star Trek" Movie
  17. Oh, so they would end up doing what's happening with them right now, except for an undetermined extended period of time. I sure walked right into that one.
  18. HG is in a very different situation compared to the rest of the anime industry. Besides insisting to cut a deal with only one specific brand of anime, they're also expected to continue or at least revive a long standing franchise with unusual roots. Unfortunately, if they ever want to go backwards, legal issues and personal preferences bars them from using material from 2/3 of the franchise; Macross because it's become another franchise and Southern Cross because, at least to them, it doesn't sell. Also, without the facilities to continue it themselves, yet insisting to emulate the style of the original series, they want to rely on animation companies in Asia to do the work. With at least one studio unwilling to work for them, they're forced to find cheap alternatives for every future production. All of this and a lack of imagination by whoever helms it, because all previous work were mostly derivatives of other stuff, leaves them in a situation where they have to spend more money than other companies and work harder to get anywhere with it. At the moment, however, they found an even better alternative to rely on: Hollywood. Surely the pool of talent there will help solve all their problems, leaving them free to do... what exactly? You would think that by extending the Robotech trademark that it gives a clear message that HG is really working on stuff like Shadow Rising and the LAMR. I'd believe it more when sources besides rt.com actually has reports about them. At least it gives them 10 years to work on it, which I guess is a typical production timetable for them. Until then more cheaply made, legally acceptable, expensive Robotech derivative merchandise for everyone.
  19. Didn't they have to pay a fine or show documentation to get the extension? If so, wouldn't that mean they'll have to do it again for all the other countries they want to have business in?
  20. Reminds me of the rumors about Hugh Jackman working on Australia and X-Men Origins: Wolverine at the same time. Guess which one did poorly? Sorry LAMR, between you and Spiderman 4 I'd rather let you bite the bullet.
  21. Pandan cake is a real thing. It tastes good, but the color makes it look weird looking sometimes.
  22. This current find makes me think the indecent(s) that eventually happened years later with him was inevitable. Buy hey, the summer convention season is coming soon, there's still hope for anything.
  23. Yup, he's been everywhere apparently. Anyway, it sounded like they used the same voice actors from the previous series. Either that or quality of their lines were very similar to what we saw in Robotech. And what is the rock dude anyway, another alien species introduced in the secondary material?
  24. But what about the MacGuffins? Assuming they're still dependent on Protoculture, if they can't retrieve them from the black hole they're slowly sinking into the colonization plan won't last.
  25. Here's some info on what they wanted to do with Robotech 3000, I think: http://www.geocities.com/robotechthreethousand/ EDIT: Crap, it's another site from Khyron Prime. It even has a page dedicated to Robotech haters.
