  1. From hints from the article and the wikis, it looks like Tom Rob Smith is an author of suspense thriller books. Child 44 is like a Soviet Russia version of Jack the Ripper. He hasn't touched anything remotely sci-fi in his career so far. My guess is that they want to turn the LAMR a mind screw film because of the Protoculture.
  2. This might be the big news for Robotech for 2009 so far. Exclusive: ROBOTECH Movie Gets New Writer
  3. Since when did Palladium become experts in Macross affairs outside of a RPG? They could have said anything they want out of convenience. Even the steelfalcon site says it takes information from the RPG books to make up the extra info.
  4. With the MPC Maia Shadow Fighter and other fiascoes, maybe a complaint to the Better Business Bureau would have been effective. http://www.la.bbb.org/businessreport.aspx?companyid=13159438
  5. It could represent the technological progress the U.N. Spacy has gone through between Macross TV, Mac 7, and MacF. That or just cool CG sci-fi effects, I have no problem with it.
  6. I consider it a problem with capitalism and greed. It might have something to do with the trade secrets of releasing anime abroad (how much it takes to put a series on the selves these days). Similar companies don't talk about it openly but they also made important connections with Japanese companies to help release stuff. HG can't follow the same route, unless Tatsunoko and DR Movie (Shadow Chronicles) still care for their business. The revenue they generate might be a drop in the bucket compared to other works these days. Whatever the value, HG doesn't have the capital or facilities to do it themselves and since they claim to have the licenses and stuff as a advantage they probably want to make a deal that is unusually beneficial to them. I'm guessing the money they're demanding is for general revenue for the company and to cover the expenses they would pay to bring it to the states. This could mean farming work in the U.S. and etc at prices they couldn't pay without help. If no one wants to work with them they can stick to the same PR game that the other parties refuse to bring these series abroad under their terms. The goal is to create the fan and public perception that they are the victim and everyone else involved are the problem. I hope somewhere in this mess preserving Carl Macek's and other crew's ego is not part of the plan. At least HG doesn't have a say on how the Macross sequels should be.
  7. Did anyone know that the guy who sang the opening and ending songs to the show, Casey Rankin, died this year? I just found out through Anime World Order. This is the only page I could find about his life and career. http://www.myspace.com/caseyrankin
  8. Would it still be considered good timing if HG decided to reveal anything significant for the LAMR or Shadow Rising this year, preferably this summer? With MacF and other mecha shows already done save for movie versions and the comic/anime adaptation craze dying down a bit, if they were waiting to wow anyone with either project they may have missed their chance. Not only will their animated content be compared to stuff like the latest Gundam and Macross series, but their live movie content will also be judged by both similar successes and flops already seen in the movie industry. Even worse for the LAMR because of the stigma against live action adaptions thanks to Dragonball Evolution and others. If they have something up their sleeves regarding the future, it's not doing them any good to keep it to themselves for much longer.
  9. I looked at HG's corporate website and realized, by today's standards, that they butchered almost every animated work they listed on their catalog at one time (poor Windaria). Also, I'm kind of interested in this Seven Seas show. Did they release this anywhere before? But kudos to them, it looks like they actually updated the site since the last time I checked it. It must mean they had work, or invested in something, last year.
  10. The hell? The deal with WB to make a movie gave HG money while leaving WB to sort out a revival, doing most of the work for them. While they're struggling to make that work, HG can just wait and do as little as possible until then. No pressure to attempt work on their animated sequels and other plans that would cost them a lot money to move Robotech along for a couple of years. They can just pay the bills and import toys if they wanted with the extra cash.
  11. Could the leaders behind the Galaxy Fleet be supporters of what the Consortium was trying to do, or maybe even be a part of it? They may be one only ones who continued their work into the Frontier era.
  12. I take it this guy does not own a cellphone or anything else inspired by Star Trek. It's not always about money pal.
  13. Guess the LAMR was mostly an elaborate scheme to get WB to pay for HG's outstanding bills. No one intended work to begin immediately or perhaps at all, just to get some of that Hollywood cred and money until someone remembers to pay attention to the license.
  14. While HG probably got money from giving them the license, can they survive another couple of years being unproductive if WB does nothing? Maybe they should try to do something for themselves if it doesn't work out in a few months/years.
  15. It would've been a good, practical approach to work on Robotech's future, but I'm guessing they want something that gets more exposure to announce anything (that is, if they actually have somethingto talk about). For those savvy in the entertainment industry, what is the biggest promotional event anywhere in the world that's best to premiere or hype about something like the LAMR? Is Comic-Con or Anime Expo the best you can get?
  16. If each fleet is considered to be an independent entity, everyone probably stays to colonize the planet because the escorts are their military. They have to stick around help build it up and defend the civilians from hostile forces. Maybe some of the them move on to other assignments when the colony becomes self sufficient or something, but that could take months to years.
  17. I looked for more stuff about the Licensing International Expo and it sounds like it would have been a good opportunity for HG to do something for Robotech. Since they haven't posted any news about it yet, I'm guessing it was another missed opportunity they couldn't pay to send a rep to. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Licensing_Show The previous news post may also be a spoiler for what HG will reveal at this year's convention tour; they're still working on the script, have some more toys.
  18. This might be a sign of WB's priorities for the near future. Expect To See More Of The Same In 2010
  19. The venues Cartoon Network used to show anime have took a hit as well. Toonami closed shop last year and Adult Swim has never been the same since the anime boom stopped. Alternatives for showing new anime on U.S. TV are now the Sci-Fi Channel at a late hour, premium movie channels, On Demand services, and The Anime Network, which isn't available everywhere and is a premium channel. In fact, I'm legitimately surprised Shadow Chronicles hasn't been shown on the Sci-Fi channel to monopolize on BSG's run. Though with the similarities between the two, people might think it ripped BSG off. And isn't Carl Macek with Viz Media working on the Bleach anime? I heard he got fired years ago by someone, but how can he still be involved with ADV?
  20. I might not go that far. Maybe just show some respect for the material you're adapting in your work, or at least show you give a crap about what you are making.
  21. More like they gain legitimacy when people Americanize anime or animated works as seen previously.
  22. There's a thread or two dedicated to Robotech legal stuff only. Guess the people involved weren't that serious about making a mind screw film for profit.
  23. I hope this is a sign that the anime/80's remake trend is ending.
  24. When you think about it, the only thing they had to do was do the job Carl Macek was supposed to do, for both, years ago and they still screwed up. Someone from HG had to have been involved to have it turn out like that. I couldn't care less since dubs aren't my thing anymore, so fixing original audio and visual problems are a bigger priority for me (fixing as in improving quality, not adding unnecessary flair).
  25. I think it's a good sign that he won't go crazy like Kill Em all Tomino for his series. He may be smoking something, but at least he's not getting emo about what he's doing. He can go back to work on the series whenever he damn well pleases.
