    SCOOP thread!

Planned exclusive Stealth VF-1S Veritech, DYRL? version, by Toynami. Will be sold exclusively at Comic Con 09, limited run. May or may not come with Strike Pack. http://www.robotechx.com/index.php?option=...&Itemid=101
  2. If the stealth toys are being made by Toynami and have no additional R&D put into it, won't these exclusive toys be the same quality as the other Macross toys they've released? They'll still lose money if they turn out to be defective and the people who bought them ask for compensation.
  3. A Comic Con exclusive 1/100 Roy Foker stealth VF-1S from DYRL? for about 30 bucks? Now I know where it's coming from, and it's not Yamato. http://www.robotech.com/store/viewproduct.php?id=259 It's a freaking Toynami recolor! They're repackaging something they already sell at a premium, in limited quantities, and at an exclusive event. Oh, and it probably comes with a certificate of authenticity or a portrait of Roy Foker by Tommy Yune to make it worth more on eBay. EDIT: And you also get the Strike Pack for your trouble.
  4. Don't forget "We own everything in Robotech..." and similar garbage. Hope they're still not using that one constantly in the Q&A section. I still think they should be preparing a plan B at this point and stop bragging until they have something worthwhile to show the world. We'll make fun of whatever they come up with, but at least it would be something to make money on. Hope the fans haven't put Robotech on a very high pedestal after all these years. The final product probably won't meet their high expectations, especially if they're hoping for flawless. And what audience are they catering to these days; the Hollywood crowd, anime crowd, comic book crowd, sci-fi crowd, novel crowd...? EDIT: The pedestal thing might be happening with the MacF movies Macross the First, but at least those involved are giving people hints on what exactly they're doing with them. That's called effective communication in the Internet age HG.
  5. Ok, so far the 1/100 stealth VF-1S will be a Comic Con exclusive, Shadow Rising work might be moved to Europe, and licensing for Robotech games could be changing hands from Take Two to WB. http://www.robotechx.com/index.php?option=...mp;id=4276#4356
  6. It's less embarrassing compared to making a storyline around 3 triangles shooting rocks and the occasional UFO in space (and the smaller UFO). At this rate, keep an eye on a SkiFree deal.
  7. They could have saved money and posted all that information on the website. That's why rt.com exists, right? Report on the panel, but it doesn't mention the new toy or video game in the works. The crew of the LAMR are now confirmed noobs about Robotech: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/convention...armony-gold-usa
  8. It's also a sign that they're still banking on the LAMR to fix the rut they're in when the 80's/Japanese revival trend is no longer a guaranteed money maker. They've halted work on everything else and waiting as long as they can for the film, it's either profit or bust for them now. That, toys and RPG books are realistically all that's left in the foreseeable future.
  9. I guess the weird thing about it is even on the Internet fans sound conditioned to expect these things every year and are happy with it. All important criticisms reverted to a call for patience that will sort itself out in time, every time. They trust these guys way too much, they haven't done anything creative for Robotech for years and they're mostly pitchmen now. Remember in Waterworld when the Deacon made an inspirational speech that motivated the Smokers to row their tanker at no specific direction? After the convention season, how long will it take fans to figure out they've been played again this year?
  10. Great, now I'm interested in knowing what you can do to make a panel presentation like Robotech last for at least an hour, saying nothing new but keeping people interested at the same time every year. You get at least 2 days in the year when breaking news in your industry is usually revealed, Anime Expo and Comic Con, and the worthwhile moments you could come up with on the first one is a small update on LAMR and a toy. At this rate, if you're lucky you'll see a spray painted prototype of the toy and the apathetic writers for the script at Comic Con. Seriously, what happened at that con today? Was there anyone there who asked important questions about the future and stuff that didn't get shot down by the usual suspects? Did they even try instead of letting another opportunity pass them by to get answers from the think tank? Don't tell me people were distracted by nostalgia, hero worship, and swag to really want to know what's going on.
  11. There's the chance that instead of a movie creating a plot about the Asteroids game, it'll be a film about the history behind the Asteroid game. Like one of those documentaries about Bill Gates and Steve Wozniak, it could be about Lyle Rains, Ed Logg, and Atari. But who would want to watch that when you can butcher a very simple concept to fit a demographic?
  12. Wait, they hyped up their panel for Anime Expo with possible news about the franchise and movie and THAT'S the most noteworthy thing they offered? Sure, and didn't you promise a Elint Seeker or something a year ago on a certain podcast a-holes!? What a waste, it's not even original anymore. So plans for a 25th Anniversary celebration, or anything, for Robotech are still reliant on what other people have done and plan for the 25th Anniversary of Macross, only a few months/years behind. A bit of a letdown, but from their track record they're used to sloppy seconds. I guess the fans will eat it up until the toys break down on them again.
  13. I remember that one: http://anymoon.com/blog/2009/02/23/yamato-...rsary-specials/ http://www.collectiondx.com/news_item/0627...paints_continue Way to be original.
  14. Bank Heist Causes Bank Run in EVE Onlne I think the crew behind EVE Online set themselves up for this problem. I'd probably do it too.
  15. Seto, I haven't been keeping track of HG's works, but what exactly have they done in 2009 so far for Robotech? Is it just toys and an RPG book and can they sustain a business with their quality of work without the fans with money to burn?
  16. Actually, he might have before, but toned down his directing/producing style in recent years. Either that or people stopped caring because the subs are also available for stuff he works on. Divergence Eve (TV)
  17. You're confusing him for John Ledford and Matt Greenfield. They made ADV and helped HG bring Robotech and the original series to DVD, though Animeigo released Macross uncut first. Carl Macek might be a freelance producer or something because he's working on the English adaptation of Bleach for Viz.
  18. Funny you mention that, but why help out GM if most of their cars are crap? Ah well, they're probably getting something from this mess anyway.
  19. If they somehow gain a profit from this practice, I'd like to know what they're doing with the money. They're probably not making shows or anything with plot with it. Reinvesting it in new crappy toys? Paying off licensing fees and lawyers for a future comeback? It's hard to imagine these people actually made a film and disappeared from the industry altogether. You only get to talk and hear from these people through a website and conventions, but they're not doing anything.
  20. What made them worth so much back in the day, were they printed in limited quantities or something? People are still trying to sell the complete set for $20-$50 on eBay with no buyers.
  21. They could always pay the Japanese companies a huge sum to get around it, maybe even pay Mari Ijima to endorse it to get bigger sales in the country. Still, it could confuse the hell out of a lot of people. The Republibot is also doing simultaneous reviews of each Macross/Robotech episode (dub tracks) at the moment. If you ever wanted to know the differences between the versions, this might help. http://republibot.com/category/tags/robotech
  22. [in the creepy title screen voice] Resident Evil 4... ...Afterlife?
  23. If those DVDs were the individual volumes of the show, those were made years ago. Carl Macek probably had nothing to do with them, only ADV. They've since been repackaged into a thinpack collection of the ADV produced Macross series, in addition to a 2 for 1 Mospeada and Southern cross combo and a jumbo block of Robotech (minus Shadow Chronicles). And did anyone know Prelude to the Shadow Chronicles is a comic no one gives a crap about?
  24. I heard a while ago that the plan was to make a prequel about the battle of Marathon, but the Spartans weren't as involved in that one.
