  1. Should that happen, Robotech would still have priority over everything else. There could be a huge domino affect for everything, good or bad depending on your point of view. The blockade of toys and merchandise besides DVDs would be lifted so everyone, but most importantly HG, can make money. Then, you would see all stalled Robotech productions, LAMR and Shadow Rising, suddenly get back into production because some of the license restrictions have been lifted (Rick could look like Rick again, studios now more likely to work for them). Like they'd actually abandon both of them now that a juicy opportunity has come. They could call the LAMR a Macross movie, but WB made the deal with HG and it has been billed as one since day one. So their franchise gains the achievement of a live action film and the chance to make it closer to both original materials with the deal made. They might cut a deal and change the name to Macross for the Japanese release, maybe even get Mari Iijima and Shoji Kawamori to endorse it at a distance. It's more of a publicity stunt to give the film legitimacy, tie it to a title people know better there, and raise potential profits from the otaku population. Plans to bring the rest of the Macross series would be planned, but at a snail's pace to "avoid confusion and conflict with the Robotech productions currently at work." To coincide the release of the projects, a massive marketing campaign the size of Transformers or other film would take place putting the Robotech title everywhere (toys, billboards, TV series re-release, etc.). Finally, months after both have been released and still fresh in the public's mind, they'll officially announce the release dates of the rest of the Macross series. The first of many releases will be labeled as "part of the inspiration for the Robotech phenomenon," or other descriptive lines that points back to Robotech. Those who had been waiting for an official release for Zero, 7, Frontier would eventually see it, but only after years of waiting and after the revival of Robotech. And to add to insult, the quality of the release might be mediocre so that it can be compared unfavorably to a NEW Robotech animation remake or some other production in the future. Imagine ADV dub quality deliberately made for all of them and other stuff to release them cheap. However, that last part happening depends on the LAMR and Shadow Chronicles being successful enough and of good quality to revive the franchise. If both turn into a disaster, they might release the rest of Macross labeling it as far as they can from Robotech to salvage the deal they made. They're bound to try again anyway.
  2. It was inevitable : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KPF-v0Gw66A
  3. The question is whether or not WB wants to get deeper into this mess than they already are to straighten HG's problems. They have the money and influence, but it's still a huge commitment to get involved.
  4. That's not what I think, but it sounds like the mentality HG adopted after retconning the novels and most of the comics out. If anything, the novels helped the fandom read more books. If it isn't the case, there hasn't been a novelization of The Shadow Chronicles in the works yet. Historically, there's always been a novelization of the animation or what they wanted to animate. It would probably help the current stall with all current productions. As for the appeal of Macek working on current anime, why not ask someone in the Bleach fandom, his current work? Does anyone there have problems with the way he's doing the dub or translation for the U.S. release and broadcast?
  5. As a businessman, his long term plans for the franchise really sucked, and his personalized animated attempts lacked hindsight into the hardships of a foreign medium at the time. At least he found a way to end his story gracefully by the time he left, right? I think the problem is the people who want to profit from the nostalgia, which is ironically the company he worked for. Technically, he ended the story, but who reads novels and comics these days? It only legit if it's in some animated form and live action apparently.
  6. Lunar orbiter spots Apollo landing sites
  7. He'll probably stick to his side of the story mentioned in the Robotech art books.
  8. That thing Memo mentioned about in 2004 happened around the same time the Macross court battle was wrapping up. Sounds like HG made made sure everything was official and up to date with Tatsunoko because of it.
  9. I think it was either about why his computer games suck (Battlecruiser 3000AD, etc.) or him just starting flame wars because he wanted to. Also, if for some reason you remember someone threatening to sue you for comments made about a game, that's probably from Smart.
  10. Were you involved in the Derek Smart flame wars years ago by any chance?
  11. If it isn't true, then I guess it's been a public relations scheme they've been using for a very long time; trying to discredit the other party and make themselves look good in the public's eye, which is also the fan's eyes. The real situation may be really different, but they don't need to be truthful about everything that happens with them, it's fair play. Think about it, whenever they say things like that it's always during an event they have planned, like a convention panel, a venue that supports them, like a podcast, or a response on a website they either own or are comfortable communicating with, like rt.com. Because they have a certain degree of control over those areas, they can use it to their advantage in any way they want. If it is the case, it also helps when the other party doesn't respond to it.
  12. That's business for you, there's no fairness in any of it. He showed he can type without caps, so it looks like he really doesn't have a problem. He just likes typing like that for some reason.
  13. Now what exactly does that mean, Memo? A criticism of how things are here?
  14. I thought I might get a warning or get banned from here for the things I said in recent posts.
  15. Ok, so HG pays Tatsunoko for the use of the animation and designs from the three series, but they can do whatever they want with it. Is that right?
  16. So when Palladium makes money on the Robotech RPG books a percentage of the profits go to HG while a percentage of what HG gets goes to Tatsunoko. EDIT: Wait a minute, does that mean HG doesn't own anything and they're just a middleman?
  17. If that's the case, it's weird to see Tatsunoko letting HG do all the work, being the only party interested in talking about it regularly. However, with the way they've they've addressed it recently, I don't blame them for keeping their distance. At least they're obligated to give money to Tatsunoko regardless of their situation. In fact, HG has to pay a lot of people to get their stuff done: toys, RPGs, cartoons, games, trademarks, etc., even when nothing is happening.
  18. Would Tatsunoko really be that vengeful over the court decision? In fact, who would be more concerned with the survival of the Robotech franchise? Tatsunoko does anime and other projects for a living and probably won't be effected as much if something goes wrong with it. They still get money through HG I guess, but with all the other business they do these days it's probably not as much by comparison. HG has more to lose with it being their only big property at the moment. They have to keep it going to stay afloat because, from what we know, business for them is not as lucrative outside the franchise. Everything that happens regarding the Macross/Robotech situation is influenced more by HG because their survival really depends on it. Depending on how much Tatsunoko gets from it, they may or may not care at this point.
  19. I think they talked about that in one of the classes I had recently. In the book I read, or what I got from it, international organizations like the World Trade Organization have problems with protecting intellectual property and enforcing copyright laws outside the country of origin. They're still working on an agreement to that stuff, and they're working really slow because all the member countries have to agree with whatever rules they come up with. That means for now it's up to the systems of the individual countries to settle it. Unfortunately, I don't think they are required to enforce it as much in the U.S. as in other countries, probably because of unbridled capitalism. So the courts don't have to do anything unless someone from Japan takes HG to court in the States.
  20. BW and Tatsunoko settled that dispute in court years ago, look it up. HG's "interpretation of licensing" includes taking liberties on what they really have access to and their influence on another franchise overseas. Even if all it does is stall real progress in the situation, they want more money on their terms. EDIT: Not being rude, people have talked about the court thing A LOT. Save space, check the first page or something.
  21. What's the difference? You do the same job the official person does, except for free. You are the new Robotech Master, Justy Ueki, Darkwater, and Captain JLS for the Robotech fandom. You're essentially doing the same thing those people did, just not burned out yet.
  22. Seriously though, that last part has to be a business ethics issue or something. Fans aren't employees, they weren't paid or rewarded(?*) for their work, but they've done it with enthusiastic fans a lot. *But what do I know, to the fan that could mean anything. For MEMO: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?...st&p=768651
  23. Yeah, because HG would NEVER lie and pander to their fans to make themselves look better for years on end doing nothing but planning stuff. Also, turning fans into personal spokespersons. HEHEHE
  24. Doubt anyone is concerned about those things yet since they don't even have a script ready. Since the people involved don't have much to do until then, they should plan ahead before all that legal stuff catches up to them and inevitably halt the LAMR further.
