Didn't he start a world wide panic while trying to expose the lies of the U.N. Spacy?
-
Oh, it got worse for her in different ways in the novels.

Hibiki, the space paparazzi. Seriously, even with a Valkyrie pilot license what did he do besides be a bad, censured journalist?
-
Well think about it; compared to all three original series they used the narrator sparingly of not at all. Carl Macek, the narrator, would drone on using a lot of unnecessary words and appearing in a lot more episodes while the originals were just straight to the point or let the actions on the screen explain themselves. Take him away and you're a little bit closer to what the original series were like, except for the dub changes.
-
I think you scared off the person that could have answered that question. I thought it was important enough to ask considering the future of the series. I'll take a stab at it; the narrator, or the in-universe metaphor of Carl Macek they recently killed off.

Someone is using the excuse that since this page was taken down, they lost the rights for these designs. On the new site does it have an update of this for curious browsers? It would have been easier to find if they still had the English counterpart like the old site.

This was mentioned before, but for the legal debate, does anyone know why this site was taken down and online because of web.archieve.org? http://web.archive.org/web/20020803190522/...ents/index.html

Translation = it was the 80's HG only got serious about all these odd quirks when they made money and did the expanded universe.
-
At least someone took the plunge before Kawamori could try it. We now know he avoided something that wouldn't end well the longer he talked about it.

Can you really make a profit from all the effort put into homemade cast miniatures on ebay?

AKIRA LIVE ACTION MOVIE = Life Support?
Einherjar replied to Macross007's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
To me, so far the only person who's really capable of doing it is Kanye West. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z42PCmaeeEk -
On the animation front, if HG can't find a way to continue Robotech by themselves with some dignity, they should at least give the fans some closure for a story that hasn't ended for 25 years. People from all sides of the fandom deserve at least that for having to go through this crap for so long. I don't care if they copy the ending from the novels or something, just end on a high note for once, instead of "to be continued for an indefinite amount of time." Shadow Chronicles could be considered closure of some kind for the original series, but with another war brewing and the lives of very important characters on the line, especially G1 character Rick "Macguffin" Hunter, is it really? EDIT - Correction, instead of "We will win."
-
So how is somebody supposed to keep that interesting in a story that doesn't end? For instance, remaking episodes 1-36 for Hollywood, going back and continuing with episode 87, and then with 37EX, the Sentinels retcon? I'm being serious.
-
The Beta might be part of the derivative also to make the Legioss more unique. Careful, that gives the impression that anything could be Robotech now.
-
So what is the core of Robotech then? Please explain it to me.
-
It might be easier if we can define the core of Robotech that makes it so unique beyond the legal situation. So what is the defining thing(s) that makes Robotech different from Macross and any other sci-fi series that makes it worth watching and investing in? How will people know whatever they're watching is genuine Robotech if it doesn't have much connecting it to what has come before? It could be Robotech in name only, if there really was a Robotech before and not just a blend of three shows together serving as the core.

HG has said Sentinels, the novels, and most comics don't count anymore. They've been replaced by something they never talked about except in Prelude to the Shadow Chronicles, but whatever happened was supposed to be very important to the overall story. Who knows what officially happened in that chapter these days, except Rick Hunter getting punk'd at the end of it. It's a fandom problem then. They see something Macross, understand the relationship it had with Robotech, and come to the conclusion that it should fit because of the obvious similarities. Most of the time that means only the mecha and visuals. Fans want Robotech, but with Macross characteristics. This causes problems with HG because they're expected to deliver the same quality because of those similarities. Unfortunately, they were never responsible for any of it even in the very beginning. They can only take credit for a dub track, names, and maybe an acronym/backronym (Veritech). Now, in a story that is being forced to be original in animation and live action for the first time in years, HG wants Robotech, but with as much legally acceptable Macross characteristics as possible. They can't rely solely on novels, comic books, and video games to keep it going anymore. EDIT - And Mospeada characteristics as well.
-
Yes, even if they shared similar qualities back in the day, Macross and Robotech are no longer the same thing. They're legally not related to each other either; it's now just one show riding the coattails of the continuing progress the other one makes. Sorry if fans like the mecha and storylines from a completely separate product and insist on trying to fit it into the other. That's what happens when a franchise only buys the core of its material rather than make it themselves.

Science and Technology MEGA THREAD
Einherjar replied to Max Jenius's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Ah, the fat cell. Junk in the trunk. Love handles. Chunky thighs. Baby cheeks. It could all lead to a beneficial future in medicine. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/booster_sh...d-research.html Imagine, somewhere down the line when you want liposuction, they might pay YOU. -
You could make a killing with that if you sold them on ebay. More emphasis on could, because fewer people have money to spend there in certain circles.
-
PS1 Macross game, there were 2 of them. One was supposed to come out in the U.S., but HG stopped that from happening. It only exists in demo form on a PSM disc. He might be talking about Macross VOXP, a PC multiplayer fighter sim. Fans went through the trouble of turning it into Robotech VOXP through conversions. It sounds like they just translated it to English and replaced the music and sound effects to match Robotech. Classy.
-
These days they are one and the same. Do you see Harmony Gold doing anything besides promote Robotech all the time? Besides that theater they run in Southern California, it's really the only thing the company does now. And with the recent legal fiasco, it's the only thing audiences of various media will remember them for.

This is either serious analysis of the Robotech novels or justification of why they changed things in it. http://robotech-aod.com/mckinney.html The rest might be too dark to talk about compared to the animation.
