I don't know, I'd be cautious about doug. It sounds like a situation he's been waiting for a while to happen; where the pro-HG people, mods and/or the HG crew starts to lose support from the online fandom and then go to him as an influential alternative, if not the highest one. He's also been the only podcaster/pundit/blogger consistently pumping out new shows and talking about Robotech, meaning for a while now he's been getting almost the entire fandom's attention. Then again, the collaboration with MEMO as well as him willing to have a conversation with Robotech Master on Space Station Liberty recently caught me off guard. Anything could be happening. For now, I'd be cautious. Also, welcome aboard Zen72.

It's a corporate site, remember? They can't express themselves in those ways there like we do. You have to go to other places to find that.

Here’s some thought provoking reasoning for conversation; how can someone truly enjoy something when its success, ongoing success, or the owner’s insistence of its focus for continued success comes at the expense of something and someone else? In this case, Macross and a little bit of Mechwarrior. I wonder about things like that too.

That sounds like one of the many things he's done repeatedly on his show, like reviewing Shadow Chronicles.

I don't think you're missing much recently. He posted the entire MacF soundtrack on his show and is now getting advice from MEMO for the 00 show. Which is strange because it goes against a lot of what he's been on the show. His recent activity has been disturbing too. A complete 180 from who he's always been.

The Transformers 3 Thread--A Michael Bay Thread
Einherjar replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Mikaela Banes' days are probably numbered. Michael Bay To Kill Megan Fox? No, I meant him coming back to the movie series. Is the fried alligator line the only thing people remember about him? -
Which one of his shows are you talking about? There's the original podcast, his vidcast on youtube, and something called Robotech 00, which I guess is supposed to be more hardcore than the original. Does it make up for the craziness that's come from him over the years?

I find it hypocritical when people like MEMO, the spokesperson to the fans, has very little knowledge or completely ignores the Southern Cross portion of his show. IIRC, despite its quality there were a lot of plot points in that section that sets up the groundwork for the entire universe. AKA, what this crap is really about and why we should care about it's future. But no, it's all about Macross Saga and New Generation. Where's that blind compliance he's known for? I'll go even further, does anyone remember what the series is supposed to be about anymore? The drama with its creators has equal or more spotlight these days. And the creators aren't helping putting a complete stop to the entire universe, all versions of it.

I don't even know if that's a good or bad thing. -

That character died too didn't he? -
Also the slippery slope that the show they've been supporting this whole time is looking more like an elaborate lie. Surprisingly, I'm impressed in the way he conducts himself. He's totally different from the rest of them out there. http://www.protoculturetimes.com/2009/10/e...e-pt-2-and.html

That should have been a warning sign for many fans on what is going on. Also, the liberal use of terms like OSM (original source material). What does that make the version the fandom follows, the OAEM, Official Arbitrarily Edited Material?
-
I don't see anything wrong with applying stuff from Mac II to the main series. While he didn't make the show, it's still fair game since it will always be attributed to it. It's a better situation than what people want Robotech to be doing. Some of that is in narcissism already.

People should know better about that video. The panel was in 2004 while Shadow Chronicles was being worked on. The film and their actions afterward shows otherwise about everything he said. If you're going to try to prove a point, use something more recent. A LOT has happened in 5 years to question the accuracy of that panel in whatever way a person wants to take it. He did the same thing using an Alan Letz article that was made in 2002 or something. Is fascism also a psychological disposition? There's no politics there except "fan politics," and they're acting like idiots for a TV show.

It doesn't mean anything if no one can make a production surrounding it. Even more so if the people responsible can only talk about it, but don't take real action to support it. Additionally, the company doesn't have the resources to do anything with whatever MEMO is trying to prove they have by themselves. Hope he and his supporters can wait another year for anything.
-
Until that time comes, everyone is doing their best to keep people's attention through various means without actually having anything new to show for it. Everyone's stalling until the LAM comes around for the long haul.

The Protoculture's Times' premature demise is a forgone conclusion then, for not sticking to the fan-derived mold. I feel sorry for Zen72. What's the point of doing stuff like podcasts if you're being forced to follow a pattern and not offer new insights? And no, not "new" insights made by proud supporters of the establishment and extremists.

It's responses like that that reaffirms my view that the whole fandom desperately needs new blood. No more narcissists and elitists, address the piling very serious issues the whole thing is in. You might want to inform people about doug's 300+(!) podcast legacy and what it's been about for years. I mean, have they really not listened to him this whole time? He's insulted these type of people, many times specifically naming them on his show, for the sake of a children's cartoon for a long time now.
-
So that's why I see MEMO and doug now playing nice recently. Their histories should make them hate each other, but I guess Robotech compromises everything these days.
-
I smell a double standard here. The host of RDF Underground actually tolerates dougbendo, but not J T?
-
So it's like the RDF Underground and/or Space Station Liberty then?
-
One thing though, heading towards a slippery slope here I know, how do you celebrate Robotech as he says in the podcast in this day and age (with all the various connotations this questions brings up)?
-
It's been a while since I heard something as well thought out as this regarding you know what. The Protoculture Times EDIT: On second thought, maybe it's more of the same I've been hearing for a while now. Thoughts?

We've been through that phase already. It's a generic Sharon Apple.
