I don't think we here are the only threat to whatever they're trying to do anymore. Maybe the extremists should expand their attention to other areas of the Internet, in an attempt to keep up with the times. Though, I guess it's easier to use what happens here as a general example of how it is outside a heavily pro-Robotech site; the Macross Purist. It sucks to be labeled as some type of stereotype for the benefit of a certain population.
-
I think that kind of thinking has grown to "various places where they hate Robotech" and rt.com as "the only Harmony Gold site," in the last few years. You think Kevin Mckeever, and I guess MEMO now too these days, is setting a bad example as someone once involved in that cycle and using it to their advantage?
-
So does anyone know why MacrossWorld gets a lot of attention by the important people at rt.com and HG? I remember someone saying a while back that this site doesn't even represent a huge chunk of either fandom or something.
-
There's also just not supporting the franchise financially. In the end, that's always more powerful than wasting perfectly good food to make a very misguided point. Don't take any actions that eventually sends money to HG that they'll use to reinvest in Robotech in their unique way again. You can buy everything else, as long as it doesn't have the Robotech or Harmony Gold logo anywhere in the packaging or stamped on the product.

I was born the year Robotech first got shown and learned about when when it was only being shown on cable (Toonami), which I didn't have for a long time. You could say I missed out too, but with everything I know now, what exactly? EDIT: One of many answers: From Zen72, BSDM from the novels with Anatole Leonard... wow.

Does anyone know other Macross-specific sites or forums that might have the same problem as here regarding rt.com? EDIT: The surveillance problem.

I'm separating what HG does (Capitalism) and what certain fans do. Capitalism in moderation is good because of the benefits it can give to consumers and producers. But too much focus on it without checks and balances can be a bad thing; monopolies, exploitation, greed, etc. I'm hoping that all HG has wanted to achieve this whole time is just to make money. For a TV show, the lengths they've been willing to get it have been questionable, but legal to a point. It's only bad depending on your POV and personal ethics, and the only thing we as consumers have power over is how to respond to it. After all, achieving their goal means getting money from consumers for their products. My POV is that, while legal, their actions were going towards the bad side of capitalism, being greedy with Macross, but it ended up failing most of the time. A lot of it can be observed even without me, so there is some truth to that. What people like MEMO do is take what is simply a business operation like rt.com and blow the entire thing out of proportion (ex. making it personal and serious business). Being just an average fan, regardless of what he thinks he is, his actions normally should be taken as totally separate from the company and franchise. But as HG's moderator for rt.com and someone who has a relationship with specific members of the company, what he does can eventually become a liability for business because of the conflict of interest he’s shown. He decides to take actions in the best interest of HG, Robotech, and himself, being in the in-crowd, when he’s really overstepping boundaries regarding established rules even he's obligated to follow, like the TOU. So while HG brought themselves into a bad economic position due to their aggressive business decisions, a bunch of brown nosing nobodies, who totally want to be on their side and have the power to show it, are making it worse in an official venue that they own, the center of the franchise online, yet gave them some authority in it.
-
At most then, it's just the bad side of capitalism with normal people, the best description I could use, making it worse wanting authority by acting like idiots.
-
My conclusion from today's drama; fans are expendable. Don't think, consume Robotech products, support it indefinitely. Don't question anything, you can be replaced relatively easily if you don't play ball. It's the worse aspects of Communism and Capitalism under the same roof.

Last month on the Space Station Liberty podcast, Kevin McKeever stopped by to inform everyone, among other things, that the closing of ADV Films won't affect Robotech that much, or something. Then, in the same week, HG sent a Cease and Desist order to Piranha Games and ign.com to take down the Mechwarrior 5/Reboot trailer for the featured mecha. That's it.
-
It worked out conveniently for them leaving you and other undesirables in a Catch-22. Until then, MEMO gets to have an extended field day offering "evidence" to his agenda backed up with LSC's "analysis." With Steve, hope the company still sees value in the forum part of the website when this year's convention tour is over.
-
Nope, it's just Mr. Conflict of Interest MEMO 24/7. His ego has been running high ever since. That's why Seto hasn't responded on the thread that was posted.
-
IIRC, in the Space Station Liberty interview where that quote originated from, that situation did happen. He referred to the HG legal team about not wanting him to reveal too much, actually nothing, and repeated "We own ALL the rights to Robotech," a couple of times. That was all he was allowed to say, or wanted to say, regarding that sensitive issue. In fact, it was his general response to a few important questions asked during the interview. Everything else, after the fact, I think turned out to be lies. The RT.com forum sure has changed since Seto and jenius got banned.

I don't even think they care about stuff like Rick, a plot, or the epic they think they created anymore Seto. They're just doing it for the money. For the older fans, Rick Hunter's fate is the hook. For the newer fans, the relationship to Macross that they gloat about every single time. And everyone else, total ambiguity as long as your interest gives them money. Voltron was almost stuck in the same position as Robotech, but those in charge actually put more effort into it to make it stand on its own. Like Ginrai said, they were better at keeping something alive than HG and I commend it. HG prefers to rest on old laurels and pandering to the same audience to keep Robotech alive (the cheap way). And it helps that a lot of the people that represent the franchise publicly were good in the art of BSing.
-
Shift the focus to HG then, since they're the ones claiming the crap out of crap.
-
Does he have self serving podcasts occasionally featuring the creative team and convention panels giving up to date information on the franchise when there isn't much? Where's the constant self promotion? There's stuff like this: http://io9.com/5378054/voltron-sells-out But where's the more direct actions, like overconfident guarantees of "We own everything in Voltron!" and constant disinformation justifying it's continued existence in one company's hands? (Adults acting really childish)
-
But HG is still moving forward with self promotion after the fact. Is this the only Americanized franchise to continue doing this, I guess aggressively, these days?
-
Does the online fandom represent a huge chunk of the people really into this? The convention tour photos every year from HG shows something regarding the franchise still attracts a lot of people. I'm guessing nostalgia. Of course, how accurate these examples are is questionable sometimes. HG is still promoting itself as being very active with a revival and products like the LAMR coming up at an undisclosed period. Even if they don't have much progress to show anyone, maybe just that is enough to get people to wait another year or even indefinitely for something. I swear, they've lured people's attention with the littlest of things since I started observing this. It's that manipulative side of the crew coming out again. Not everyone knows as much as people here, rtx.com, rt.com, online, etc. about what really goes around with HG to make that prediction accurate, and to this day they're using it to their advantage. What's disturbed me is that most of the audience they cater to these days are adults, many almost twice my age. But from the way they promote themselves it's almost as if they're talking to children, online or in person.
-
To me, after its initial success Robotech was able to survive this long more through general manipulation than creativity. HG took advantage of an emerging form of media until enough of the audience understood what they had done. But by then it was too late; they had made enough money out of it and was now ligitimate enough to challenge any future criticism people would have. That's why we're here today.

Don't forget the RPG books by Palladium, made for an even smaller group compared to the toys. Canon? Most likely not.
-
And look at all the progress they've made by maintaining the trademark.

I hope Depp and Burton know about .

The Transformers 3 Thread--A Michael Bay Thread
Einherjar replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
If the movies taught me anything, it's that the ratio between humans and robots in a show about transforming robots should always be really wide, with as much emphasis as possible on the robots. There's been too many meat bags sucking up the attention in these films to really make it a Transformers movie. It's more like "Sam Witwicky and the Transformers."
