Hollywood could be HG's last chance to change the franchise's situation. They really can't do anything for Robotech by themselves anymore and their activity shows. And they're willing to do whatever it takes to get it done. Anything. It's no longer just an alternative to creating their own stuff like Shadow Rising, it's their only option. That's why I think they're desperate enough to be relatively inactive for a long period of time so that someone with more money and resources can do a lot of the work for them. It's not just any kind of work, it's something with better potential quality. Sure, there are no guarantees that anything will happen with it for a while, but it is probably more preferable for them rather than doing another animated project with the assets they have (feigning responsibility over continuing or concluding the Shadow Saga). Plus, it didn't cost them anything to do, they got paid some amount so WB can tinker with the idea.

Funny, that's what HG has always been doing. We'll always know, but everyone else won't in time to do anything about it... maybe. I keep forgetting it's no longer the 80s and we have the Internet. Maybe WB fell for that too initially, bringing us to where the movie is now.

It's also especially hard when you don't have the real creators and talent for the material you're adapting working on the collaboration. It adds credibility to the venture.

Seeing a Robotech live movie that alienates old fans of the franchise even further to get the attention of the mainstream is possible.
-
You don't need to go that far. Made or not made, the whole thing is still going to be a huge expense for someone. They're going to spend millions to potentially embarrass themselves and make everyone realize what we've already known for years about Robotech. And HG, it's hard to tell if they're going to last long enough to see the movie get made anyway. They and their supporters will just keep on smiling as things gets worse.
-
Exactly, how can anyone still have confidence in this company when they screw up a lot?
-
Hell, anything created after the original series may not exist anymore. PTTSC was pandering to the folks who have now wasted money on the novels and comics thinking it would always be canon. It and Shadow Chronicles destroys the legacy of people like the Waltrip brothers and Jack McKinney.

By the way, regarding the thought about that Robotech theme ride thanks to the Harmony Gold - Warner Brothers - Six Flags connection, very unlikely. Six Flags filled for bankruptcy this year. http://louisville.bizjournals.com/louisvil...02/daily25.html

Remember, what happened recently for Robotech is going on because of two moderators and one marginally related news article about the movie. Two mods, one fluff article. It's all their work not HG, but it is probably welcomed. They too are exploitable smokescreens while Robotech stuff tries to move along. Their credibility can take a nose dive and HG would not care since they're just volunteers and not employees. They're just supposed to be moderators for their site, something they seem to have problems following recently. And I living very close to the Napa Wine Country must make me knowledgeable in viticulture.

Yet, to this day they think they can make a franchise out of it using money, lawyers, and... ugh, being Hollywood swavy(?). They don't even have the in house assets to do anything with it.

When you think about, the death toll has been really high in the material over the years. For example, at least two generations of people died gruesomely, some for really no reason whatsoever, two alien species were almost made extinct thanks to the narration and legalities (Zentradi and the Masters, maybe), a couple of human fleets from Mars and space stations, and people on Triol (curved stomped by the Invid). If anything, Robotech revolves around unnecessary death, many of which happen because characters served their purpose and are disposable. And then there's things like Shadow Chronicles, where the crew put most of the Mospeada crew on a bus like they don't matter anymore. Oh, and that Romeo guy. Crap, he also had Kakizaki's green color scheme, didn't he? Stupid lazy homages and plagiarism. Anyway, only Rick Macgruffin Hunter really matters.

You could always hear the CollectionDX review of it. It saves time, informative, and actually entertaining. http://www.collectiondx.com/blog_entry/des...he_untold_story

Well, it sounds like a huge difference in progress after 25 years. Also, unlike Robotech, Macross is actually entitled to do stuff like this being the originator and celebrating 25 years of existence without irony. If they were pissed about the homages from Frontier, they must have been pissed too at the homages in Shadow Chronicles as well. Or is that an exemption, for those who liked it, because it was a Robotech title?
-
How about that it's too shallow compared to what they usually see? That's what I got from some of the responses to Frontier, but that's probably thanks to the "universe" HG led them to believe and media blackout they helped maintain with Macross all these years.

While people are still talking about the E! Online article, to me the only reliable source of information on the site and network is The Soup with Joel McHale (the bank manager from Spider-Man 2). Come on, it's an entertainment news source that features people like Ryan Seacrest as anchors.
-
Well, that thinking is too ambitious considering the company. They've been given nothing so far to justify the comparison besides non-canon material. And they like forgetting about past failed attempts when fondly remembering Robotech. I think those failures are very important to consider when looking at the longevity of a franchise. And you can only blame other entities for them only so much for why that happened. HG is as much to blame as whomever the official word says, it's their franchise.

11/23/09, but the interview wasn't even about Robotech, it got a small mention among the other things he's been doing. He may not even be paying attention to recent developments.
-
He forgot to mention Spiderman 4 before Robotech, but I guess that's enough to keep people going for a couple of months.

He might be a newcomer that found out about the site in one way or another (maybe from the Robotech Convention Tour or something). He's also filling the void left by disillusioned fans that got tired of waiting and either left or got booted over the years. If things stay relatively the same through next year, I can see the whole cycle go down again. That brings up something; besides Macross, are there any anime titles that are very difficult to release outside of Japan only because of legalities? I'm not talking about the financial aspect of certain ones like Legend of Galactic Heroes (that can happen if someone was willing to pony up the money), strictly on the grounds of legalities.
-
He's thinking/associating Robotech as American animation and doesn't know much about anime that is not being distributed in the U.S. maybe.
-
Yup, the Robotech Convention Tour is definitely over for the year: http://www.robotech.com/community/forum/re...p;pagenumber=10

Some Robotech fans would say Tommy Yune is one, if only because he finally released a project, albeit an unfinished and unpolished one, to the masses. When it comes to their animated productions, it's definitely a success. Though, because of the expense they had to go through to finish it, it may or may not ruin the company in the long run. Yeah, yeah, it was an underachiever's success and such, Seto.

HG was able to get Tobey Maguire and his company to agree to a live action movie. I'm thinking there's a misconception in the entertainment business, not the anime business, of what HG has control over their property. There might be many companies interested in Robotech because of the reputation it has, at most for the recognition and money, but are totally unaware of the behind the scenes drama that HG has gone through for it. WB probably learned about this only recently, as we see where progress in the Robotech movie is right now. Presumably, if WB can be fooled, another ambitious company that only knows good things about Robotech's history are going to be willing to invest in it and get an ugly surprise. The legal snarls Robotech and Macross are in may not even be known by people in the mainstream. Even more so if an influential person in whatever company comes around that encourages the deal sites Robotech to be a big inspiration in their life or turns out to be an old fan. He/she may end up hating the series and the followers behind the scenes.

Good choice of words. They were willing to continue the story in another direction even if it meant writing or killing off beloved characters. It also moves them past the need to explain the unresolved questions about the story they neglected to answer.
