  1. That name sounds familiar. It was easy to get lost in a lot of the malls I visited back then. Does it still have a lot of cell phone vendors?
  2. The Philippines had easier access to anime than the U.S. for years. I remember my cousin talk about watching Voltes V on TV there when I was younger. But it's a mish mash; when I first visited the Philippines in the 80s, I got to see Voltron being shown in English. When I went there again in 2002, they had a block of anime on one network being showed subbed, but they weren't new shows. They were promoting Samurai X (Rurouni Kenshin), Cooking Master Boy, and Eden's Bowy. Meanwhile, I was able to buy dubbed anime on VCD from a legitimate video store. At least I hope it was legitimate, because it looked like a Walden Books from the inside, but the quality of the VCDs were mediocre and they only had two episodes each.
  3. Sometimes, it's hard to accept these people want to be treated seriously. But then people would use Mac7 as a response, despite it being a financial success and an actually completed work.
  4. Were the Praxians really necessary? There were already Meltlandi, but yes, not in Robotech. "Death by snu snu!"
  5. Leave Tiger Woods alone!
  6. It's more like an Enron/Bernard Madoff situation; they're all elusive outside of public appearances and you literally don't know what's going on behind the scenes until bad news reaches media outlets. For example, the Mechwarrior 5 problem. That was probably one of the only news worthy things about HG and Robotech that caught the attention of people outside the debates here and there this year.
  7. Exactly, it's a shallow illusion to garner interest in the up and coming anime/sci-fi/comic book crowd and the old nostalgic fans every year. The problem is that too few people realize it, because they equate it to a Star Trek or Star Wars convention when they were still in the process of being established. Edit: My gosh, I may have inadvertently went to one during my first anime convention. I'm not sure if it was an ADV Panel or HG/Robotech one, because I distinctly remember an Asian guy, maybe Tommy Yune in hindsight, showcasing the lengths one of the companies went to restore Genesis Climber Mospeada for the first DVD release. It was a split screen presentation of the original and restored footage. Plus, the con program had a lot of Macross art on it, which could have marked an anniversary for either show back then.
  8. http://www.kent.net/robotech/information/karbarran.shtml I probably asked this a long time ago, but production/distribution-wise, does anyone know what HG's been doing this year besides pimping out Robotech?
  9. I think that's why the Robotech Convention Tour exists, to make everyone know it's still around, fans, anti-fans, and opportunistic corporate entities alike. How can it be neglecting people if they're willing to spend money annually telling people nothing new? And who doesn't like the swag they always give away at these things?
  10. Are you serious? Many of them sound like they love that kind of "quality" material. And what happened recently isn't anything new. It's the Sentinel's Curse all over again, which many have, unusually, made light of it for years. I don't think they have ever understood how grave a sign it really is. It's a very long term investment.
  11. I read some of the stuff from Art III that was posted on rt.com too. I was more bothered about the content then the actual plot. If Sentinels was a taste of what they were going to do, I want to know if they could really get away with a lot of the mature stuff they were planning back in the 80s for a kid's show.
  12. I think at least Glen A. Larson cared. Cared that his epic was getting screwed by the network by that time.
  13. (Being cynical here) Even if they were enthusiastic about contributing to the release Macross related products at one time, they may have seen the error of thinking that way. It sounds good in the short run, but it could have caused problems later on. They had a franchise that would potentially be in danger if something similar or a challenger, at least to the audiences they're entertaining, came around putting more effort into a production. Also, they would be getting less money if they really let that happen because they would have to share a lot of it, and then some credibility stuff too. On the talent side too, they were very much outmatched if BW and company planned to make sequels on a regular basis and were free to sell it around the world. Pretty much I'm thinking what is happening now with HG, but occurring sooner and being more apparent to the general public without the attempts of blacking out information.
  14. Let's be cynical about the whole situation; whatever fond memories and nostalgia people have about Robotech, HG doesn't really give a crap. They just want money from anyone for doing very little with a franchise they claim they have control over. If they have to rely on very defensive fans to keep it going online, it's not much of a loss. It's the real public out there that their operation is going for. The joe six packs. They're doing it for the money, that's all I'm saying. They really don't have a story to tell at all, but people still want to believe. And they're willing to pay a lot for it.
  15. I think the controllers run on lithium batteries. Maybe they need to be replaced.
  16. Hell yeah, go Super Scouts and bearded old man Adama.
  17. Yeah, me too in 8th grade, private school. Basil Exposition (Michael York) was also in it.
  18. Dollars are still worth more than the Yen, right? I could see cultural/personal business ethics being a hindrance. With WB, that could mean a lot of money and recognition in the West for a change. But would they really want to share credit with HG, who really did nothing but edit their work? It could mean more business for the staff, as long as they're fine with the stuff they make being used under the Robotech label. But it could get complicated if a contract with specific ground rules was established. They might regret it in the long run. Would this be considered selling out?
  19. Wished they had the same accommodations the mothership from Homeworld had.
  20. ... so, how likely is it that staff or talent from the original SDF Macross, Southern Cross, and Mospeada would promote the LAM in Asia if anyone paid them handsomely enough to do it? It could really increase the legitimacy and performance of the film in the region, like what happened with Dragonball Evolution, etc. Yes, it's more complicated than other examples, but still.
  21. "Call to Arms," because even in that universe, everyone has to acknowledge what Minmei contributed to the show, before people derailed her. Because if they ever did a remake, that part would most likely be taken out for something more... conventional. When I say conventional, I mean more bloody and less thought provoking.
  22. What I said could be used to describe at least two people who made a fool of themselves on rtx.
  23. That happened a lot of VHS and Beta videos after a while. In one of the BADs, they commented on a clip where the show was accidentally/deliberately turned upside down by whoever worked on it. But they used a clip from Captain Harlock and the Queen of a Thousand Years where Carl Macek The Narrator wouldn't shut the hell up. Actually, he might describe this as a victory on his show as he did for what happened in rtx. What did he manage to do since he started posting here? Umm... showed how superior he is compared to us by not actually achieving anything...?
  24. This led me to watch "Bad American Dubbing," by Corn Pone Flicks, funny stuff.
  25. So, merchandising reasons, to get you to buy the original show, books, comic prelude, etc., like other franchises but here it's required.
