I should have put more emphasis on the money part and HG's irresponsibility in my post, which is their real method of getting anything done. They don't know what they're doing, having never done animation at all by themselves and just throwing money and the law at everyone to deal with it instead. Plus, they're frugal, so that money they're throwing isn't enough, but they're willing to downright cannibalize things.

I'm finding it more and more disturbing that we're totally comfortable with generalizations when describing anything, which in turn makes a lot of people look prejudice or racist, yet acceptable. Shadow Chronicles was made by a Korean animation firm paid for by Americans, but not enough it seems. HG touted buzz words like OVA and anime to attract the anime crowd and link it to either Robotech and Macross. But really, it's a direct to DVD movie with the quality of a Sci-Fi or UPN original movie. They were just willing to spend more money to make people think otherwise. For crying out loud, it had Mark Hamill acting like a character from many of his non-Star Wars and non-DC roles.

Just because something is longer doesn't mean it's actually better. Anyone here watch Alan Smithee's Dune (wink wink)? Sometimes there's too much fat in the product that ruins the whole thing, especially the Southern Cross portion that even superfans have openly acknowledge.
-
Big deal, that's just a typical day there with everyone waiting for Shadow Rising and the LAM because they have NOTHING better to do. Don't waste time thinking about it and accept it. They're really the ones wasting everyone's time.
-
Um, that would be fallout anyway, now wouldn't it?
-
You forget the LAM, we're in the middle of watching the fallout from that every day. It will get worse regardless of whether professionals get serious about it or HG continues to stall their own plans. Keep the pressure on everyone.

Exactly, the mods have taken that responsibility to heart as well. As a general rule of thumb, it's best not to go to rt.com for a serious conversation about anything. People will get the run around every time until they either give up or are banned for causing a scene. In fact, don't take the site seriously at all, since the company behind it clearly doesn't, with most of the content there left unchanged for years.

Part of Kevin's job is to really curve facts to serve different needs. He's probably been saying stuff like that for the past three years since Shadow Chronicles came out. It's working though, like all the times he and others appeared on Space Station Liberty. People really think HG is working on Shadow Rising despite no news anywhere about collaborating with an animation company to get it done, since they don't have the capacity to do anything by themselves. Tommy Yune is the only real talent they have in house. That would be the kind of news both sides would not want to keep secret for long; HG to keep their fanbase and interested party's attention, and the Asian firm's reputation since most of the time working with a U.S. company is really a big deal in certain circles.
-
But hey, there's always the slight chance that they absolutely know what they're doing. Shadow Rising and the LAM IS in the works, it's just that Hollywood, anime/animation, sci-fi, and general entertainment sources haven't picked up any news about it because it's low key. It's so complex that a stuff like NDC really are needed when it's not practical for other less important projects. This is hardcore Hollywood gangbusters, ultra secret like, way better than Japanophile crap. So secret that only fanboys can understand it, and we'll all get our comeuppance in the traditional 80's fashion.

I disagree, especially with Shadow Chronicles being an incomplete product and robotech.com the center of the franchise online. If we were still in 2006/07, then yes, people may still find enjoyment in the Shadow Chronicles DVD and etc. But because all Robotech productions naturally end on cliffhangers, it's now been 3+ years since people got it, and HG regularly has a problem completing a product, more people should be pissed. HG owes them a Shadow Rising or continuation very soon because they set up their story that way on purpose. And after what we got recently from their "competitor" in MacF, another mostly completed product from the same people are usual, seriously. Fans go to the site to celebrate it, but more importantly ask some serious questions about the state of the franchise as time and inactivity go on. Keep going with it and they generally get the cold shoulder until they're forced to drop the subject passive aggressively or flatly threatened to do so. Memo is definitely not Robotech, but when the professionals behind the company stand by a lot of the things he says and does to people on their site, that's as close to official as a fanboy can get. Think about it; they value his craziness over legitimate concerns every time on their corporately owned and professional site. That or he's another scapegoat for what could potentially happen in the future. It tells a lot of what kind of people HG wants to attract for their business. Either way, fans are going to be forced into enjoying Shadow Chronicles again and again for the long haul, whether they like it or not. People better be happy with it, seriously.

I don't know, on one hand this IS the Internet we're talking about, on the other it can be a serious wake up call. It sure happens on a regular basis these days following very similar patterns most of the time. Hmm, let them keep doing the fine job they're really enthusiastic about, not even HG is stopping them anymore.

It's very costly the more sincere the fan banned is about the franchise. They're potentially costing the company they excessively love money, like $20-$500 annually per ban.

The Thing Prequel written by Ronald D. Moore
Einherjar replied to chowyunskinny's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Is this really a bad thing? Years ago a company made a video game continuation of the movie for the PS2, though I never played it to know if it was a good or bad one. They did the paranoia aspect from the film well though. -

Welcome to the real face of Robotech and it's fandom, I guess. Either drink the Kool-Aid liberally or it's not going to be fun for you.

Protoculture, the plant-based fuel and not the first interstellar civilization in the galaxy, makes everything possible in Robotech. From fueling most sophisticated technology available to being close to a PG-13 narcotic with surreal results, it's everything. Unfortunately, it is also the source of all conflicts in the universe, being a rare substance that people kill each other for. The Abridged Synopsis: People killing each other for fuel, transforming robots, DRAMA, Rick Hunter, and send HG more money.
-
But isn't that a starting point for some of the crazy delusions about Robotech we've seen?
-
I thought that's already a given for both living and dead. If they're not Carl Macek, Tommy Yune, or anyone American, they're nobody.
-
I was wondering if spreading news about that was really a good idea. It's gotten almost everywhere now. That's the kind of thing a certain company would go up in legal arms for. But I'd let them integrate it, it's never going to be official and they've been given nothing new for years anyway.
-
It might be simpler than that; it's the same Alpha that appeared on the cover of the Shadow Chronicles DVD or other promotional pictures behind a blazing background (Photoshop). If this year turns out to be the same as the rest, it could be just another weightless symbol for Robotech that can be put on souless merchandise to bait people into buying new stuff from HG. MEMO will probably buy it regardless since he'll always be a guarenteed sale. Too bad it loses some of its effect when the Macross 25th Anniversary already happened and something significant came with it, despite only happening in Japan.

Nice Photoshop, nay, GANGBUSTERS!!!

We're coming up towards year 4 of the Robotech: Are We Done Yet Chronicles.

After about three months of going into Home, I wish there was more to do besides play games for clothing. I'm not really pumped up about playing Texas Hold 'em so much to get a bracelet. Also, that Alcove Set in the Siren gamespace that needs people to work together to get it. Next year I should try out the socializing part of Home.
