If it does get shown on TV, I hope someone puts it online for evidence posterity.

It's funny that people are talking about the Robotech novels again: http://ghostlightning.wordpress.com/2010/0...alled-robotech/
-
I have to ask then, were a majority of the new ideas introduced in the Robotech novels created by McKinney or from ideas interpreted from notes and talk from Carl Macek about his definite version of Robotech?

You're forgetting the endless pursuit for money and recognition by HG without actually doing/using anything beyond what they paid for 25 years ago. It's the reason why the Alpha, Beta, etc. from the 80s are still the most advanced piece of technology for the RDF.

Actually, with everything he's said he wanted to include in the Codex, I don't think it would work out legally at all. HG would playfully discourage it at first, then act on it once real money and progress have been put into it. But we all know everything that comes from him is mostly talk; it rarely amounts to anything beyond paying for a convention booth and appearances on someone's convention panel for doing... what exactly?

For Robotech fan film project(s). Well, from his description on the site: If anyone wants to know more about these works: War Eagles: Inspired by the Original Story by Merian C. Cooper, Creator of King Kong The d'Arc (chapter 1 excerpt) GIRL IN THE IVORY TOWER (screenplay) And then there's the English version of Bleach, the anime. I'll stay neutral about these, but I don't know, something rubs me the wrong way about the Merian C. Cooper part. Also, notice one of the reviews for War Eagles.

The Amazing Spider-Man, on Blu-Ray/DVD Nov. 9, 2012
Einherjar replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Hard to believe that it's been 7 years since the film series started. I have to ask though, can anyone really keep a series on film going past three films consecutively these days without critical rough parts? -
Maybe HG will end up doing the same thing with MEMO once his project stops being just talk over the years.

I wouldn't get your hopes up. Their selling point are appearances from the usual suspects and Codename: Robotech, the promotional clip show that's not Global's Report. http://www.aodsf.org/aod/robotech/ I'll save people a lot of trouble from having to watch it:

Best to move away from talking about that attention magnet again: Despite having plans for a Shadow Rising, I seriously doubt HG has put any thought into continuing Robotech. When I say this, I mean serious thoughts about where it can go from here. Without continual access to the talent and material that originally brought them somewhere, they really can't go anywhere else. Generally, the strategy has been milking everything from the original three anime series for material to keep it going. But creatively, they're screwed these days. All responsibilities in terms of mecha and character design and plot are relegated to a couple of amateurs including Tommy Yune, if there really is more people besides him in that department. Outside of Shadow Chronicles, they have no experience in doing anything, period. And that's just commenting on the planning side, the funding part to make any of their ideas come true is even worse. There's no heart in any of it, though I have to argue whether or not it existed in the first place; starting as an edit of three shows together in a haphazard way, covering it up with extra material after the fact, and sticking to prepared statements and stances defending it forever. But definitely what's happening now, all of it is a shallow reiteration of their glory days for profit. Until something pans out with WB and the LAM, it's going to be solely focused on merchandising, some recycled, of various quality. But if you want something with more substance, like a plot, dialogue, and development, don't count on it unless you want to buy Prelude to the Shadow Chronicles or another reprint of the 85 episodes again.

QUESTION ABOUT GENEON,ADV,ETC.VIDEOS
Einherjar replied to zeus the zentran's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Services like youtube and hulu might devalue all of that once the remaining companies put more of their content online. I don't understand how they're going to make money with some choices without a enforcing fees to watch them though. -
Is there anything special about the House Davion Action Pack that might make it a good buy for people? There's 6 mechs inside including some Atlas.
-
I never heard about Robotech until I went to high school in the 2000s. It was on Toonami/Cartoon Network at that time. Unfortunately, I didn't have cable at home and was only able to watch tidbits of anime at my piano teacher's house for a while. I was more interested in Gundam Wing.
-
Is the MechWarrior: Dark Age tabletop game still popular? I saw a House Davion Action Pack heavily discounted at a local store and thought it might be a good ebay selling opportunity. I know that the people making the game folded, but there has to still be a thriving community for it.

I don't know if I'll be able to keep doing this for another whole year if nothing significant is going to happen anyway. If 2010 is most likely going to look like 2007, 08, and 09, the job is mostly done now. Best to just provide a link to what the whole situation amounts to and let every action from the usual gang support it on a regular basis. They'll all do the work for me by just going on and on and on since they never seem to change. They've been doing this for YEARS with no real results. Try to prove me otherwise.
-
There really can't be a debate if the focal point really isn't active beyond the fanboy level on a regular basis. But, if the spreading sentiment that "it's the fans that keep Robotech alive," is true, they're the real stewards of the franchise these days. That means they should be really careful how they portray themselves since to them this is serious business, and with HG being inactive, the loud, prominent ones are what newcomers and casual outsiders will observe the most online after the PowerPoint presentations they see from the convention tour. They want to be treated seriously as experts in whatever field they claim? Then it shouldn't be surprising to them if they get scrutinized on a daily basis for what they say and do, just like how professionals are treated. "The HG and Robotech Debates: ITS IN THE HANDS OF THE FAN, GANGBUSTERS!!!"
-
Then this is by far the best time for people like that to get acquainted to it, with the kind of unity the 25th anniversary is bound to spark. Imagine the personal stories of people like Zen72 and Robelwell202 drastically increasing from this milestone. If people still don't know about HG's horrible secrets, they will in the most uncomfortable way possible very soon. Plus, hopefully, many of them are now well rounded adults like those above who see what's really happening quickly. There has to be a lot of people in that group who are going to ask, "What the hell happened in 25 years?"
-
At this point, there can't be that many still around. There has to be rational people in that group who are smarter consumers than them, especially after how people in general are treated when it comes to Robotech. Plus, there are still a lot of things working against HG at any given moment; a recession in the U.S., a state wide budget crisis in California, waiting on WB to make something out of Robotech (not the other way around), the quality of their products historically rarely improving with set prices that attract only the diehards of diehards, and the original franchise they're trying to be like making a financial and influential impact in their turf despite being restricted to one country. This should not be the ideal situation to encourage bait people to buy poor quality products again because of a mostly meaningless milestone. It's not my problem if people like MEMO have the impulse to buy 10 of each item when it's painfully clear they shouldn't. It's also not my problem if some ideas just become too ridiculous and not financially sound to show that love for Robotech. http://www.robotechx.com/forums/25-robotec...ilms-works.html The Macross/Robotech conundrum is really a situation that forces you to be smarter as a consumer to avoid being played like a fool on a daily basis. Unfortunately, people are not learning.

Guess all that's left is to make HG squirm economically & legally. If you hate Robotech and/or HG for any reason, boycott the hell out of everything they do this year. Don't be tempted into buying some cheaply made overpriced merchandise (limited run or whatnot) & DVD reprints of something you already have. For example, that vinyl Regult coming out soon, don't help them get the $50,000 they could potentially make, before subtracting the costs to make them, selling at a limited run of 2000 at $25 each. Don't go to a certain covention panel tour occuring annually that will most likely go through the same song & dance as MEMO has conveniently posted on youtube. Thankfully, he probably saved many people the trouble of going to one and directly getting the run around by "professionals." Also, stop paying attention to prominent personalities in that fandom who are really either shills for HG or downright crazies for a kid's show. They have been, and will continue to do this forever. They all LOVE Robotech.
-
Those comics and such are so much better to keep in the story rather than starting something new and leaving the entire franchise at an ellipsis for years once again. Turns out they took all of that out with nothing to replace them with. And when they did have something, it was as low quality as what they got rid of.
-
From what I've seen in Robotech's legacy, it used to be huge content wise, with comics, novels, etc. making it bigger than it really was. But recently, HG took back everything they ever considered progress for the franchise and left only completed animation as the real story (stuff they really did not work on). Everything else changed from canon/mostly canon to expendable merchandise. People can still enjoy them, but to the creative staff it's not real Robotech. It's a backhand to a lot of fans meaning they wasted a lot of money following storylines that used to be official, but thanking them for their support. In turn, what they're doing with Robotech now, Shadow Chronicles, isn't seen as real Robotech from a lot of the people HG has pissed off. And with the LAM, there will probably be another version of Robotech going to replace the older versions, since it might be original for a change and free from legal snarls. Bombarded with all of this information, I'm not really sure what Robotech really is supposed to be about anymore. It's all very shallow these days.
-
I always wondered if that was the best ice breaker to start with, especially if you have to discuss another seperate franchise that is overshadowing theirs product and quality wise at any given moment. Actually, he said "horrible," not dirty. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i30NJ7NZ6a8
-
Then just put all the blame on HG for not giving them enough financial motivation and direction over a long period of time for the animation firm to really give it the quality people wanted it to have. They're really busy people to have to do job from a small, yet American firm who can't realistically pay well, in dollars no less. It did take many years for it to come out, and HG got what they could pay for with their budget.

The money and fanfare used to get those people to contribute to the productions could have been used better. By doing that, I accuse them of intentionally baiting people to buy their crap. Especially with Shadow Chronicles, they could have saved the money to get Mark Hamill, since his role was very unnecessary, to improve everything else. But who was the bigger attention grabber for that film, Mark Hamill or Rick Hunter? Were people psyched up to see one or another or both? Unfortunately, they couldn't have both for longer than 5 minutes on screen and were left to stomach something else entirely.
