If this is true, I did not know that a lot of what I've been saying has actually been a threat to them this whole time. Also, in the short amount of time I've been here I now have a reputation with long runners. Some people are just very paranoid. How the heck did that happen?

It sounds like he doesn't even care about the material anymore. He does what he does to get back at people who pissed him off or betrayed him in some way. There are better ways in dealing with that.

Not only that, does that mean Pizza KNEW all along what the fallout was going to be as a result of it? And he STILL went along with it thinking it was a good idea? And out of taking the time to harass a lot of people, Pizza did it for FREE, with no reward for his effort? And now he thinks revealing that NOW will somehow bury the hatchet? Well, now I think Pizza TOTALLY deserves to be disappointed by that Maia Shadow Fighter he had high hopes for. He may have pissed off a lot of people, but he ruined any credibility he wanted to have here or there, shown he's easily manipulated, and just wasted $80 on blind faith towards copyright owners who only care about his money. Happy 25th anniversary Robotech.

You see, for a franchise that's so epic that anything really epic is casual, a lot of people NEVER talk about the flaws. And for an epic show like this, it can be a game changer. The 85 episode show is cited as epic, but even that ended on a cliffhanger which got crazier as the creator(s) was forced to explain the situation he put his own franchise in, without hindsight, one way or another. But no, this is epic by default and something not authentically translated in English and not introduced to the audience first is flawed.

...and life just goes on as always. Well, maybe not for Robotech. Rick Hunter is still being sucked into a self-made black hole at the moment from three years ago. Plus, human civilization is on the verge of economic and structural collapse with the Protoculture Matrix going down with him. Someone should really fix that.

That depends on how flexible HG is in dealing with this. I'm thinking they could force them to stop work altogether or eventually help showcase their work for the franchise's benefit after huge compromises. Or, just like the other big fan projects that came before it, they could stall real progress with talks of some official support for it long enough that the team just stops work out of frustration in dealing with HG. That small glimpse of hope the team still has from communicating with HG recently might be a trap.

Still, in real life I would not want to get into a fight with Pacquiao. -

The second Punisher movie. In one of the colleges I attended, me and a couple of dorm mates couldn't take it seriously 2/3 of the way through. As my friend described it afterward, "We got Punished!" EDIT: I'm talking about the one like Swordfish with John Travolta. -
I agree, I'd rather be a Macross Purist. The franchise we support actually has standards, like finishing projects. However, I'm being more sympathetic of fans who still have faith in Robotech, because they clearly love it more than the staff and its creators these days. HG does what it does purely for money.

Unfortunately, they have a very close and creepy relationship almost as far as the Shadow Chronicles release. As a spokesperson for the fans, I think for them he's always been willing to compromise. I already know too much about the situation to ever take any of it seriously anymore.

Don't worry about the edits to your post, the mods do that for profanity and etc. What's really ironic about it is that I heard about this near the same time I stopped by The Protoculture Times' blog to hear this quote: Unfortunately Zen, that's HG in this case.

Although I had my disagreements with fan projects in the past, I would like to offer my condolences to the people at UEG Productions who recently reported getting the shaft from Harmony Gold for promoting their Robotech Genesis fanfilm. http://www.robotechx.com/forums/25-robotec...p;start=20#9775

Until Harmony Gold stops acting like a lame duck with Robotech while Macross is coming out with quality material, in fact, just any new material besides merchandise on a regular basis, the legal argument for their defense really doesn't help them. That just makes them trademark holders for something they really do not have control over and can't effectively respond to. That's what I think at least, since everything that is said and done by HG is supposed to turn into REAL results somewhere down the line if they were true.

I've heard that the Japanese dub for Star Trek: The Next Generation was very good quality.

I think the RandomCasts do it better. http://www.protoculturetimes.com/search/label/RandomCast

I don't have a problem with voice actors, it's just with the higher ups in the American industry who think they're more than what they really are. Isn't it sad then that fans like that put all their hopes on a couple of people who are supposedly super talented, but in reality they're just a bunch of opportunists who fans think can single-handedly revive a compromised franchise? That's what MEMO is defending all for the sake of nostalgia, and look where that led to in the past few years.

On one hand, he's probably one of the only "celebrates" in the business who lives in the U.S. and speaks English that they could get to raise the show's popularity. Getting in touch with the real talent overseas would be difficult in a podcast setting. But that would leave a lot of voice actors and people who worked in the anime distribution industry as the only guests they can realistically have on the show throughout it's lifetime, isn't it? On the other hand, I really do not know who ANN's core fanbase is these days. A majority of them may tolerate Carl Macek's career without understanding the ripple effect his most influential project had as a consequence. Also, they really make light of the other screw ups he made only because of Robotech, including the stuff that happened after the original 85 episodes. They easily forget the result of Carl Macek getting his hands on stuff like the first Fist of the North Star movie, Windaria, and Captain Harlock. But then again, the hosts may be contractually obligated to pander to everyone when it comes to anyone and anything anime related. I guess I'm starting to question the credibility of the entire distribution system now.
-
You're not suggesting an industry-wide conspiracy regarding the entire anime distribution process, are you? It's lost a lot of its influence with Japanese companies being more assertive about their products, but they wouldn't go so low as to defend a guy that was/is willing to make cost effective liberties with other people's work to save the industry, right?
-
That is what always bothered me about the Space Station Liberty talkshoe podcast. The host got a lot of exclusive interviews with HG and Robotech personalities that way. And when things did happen for the franchise, he as overly pro-HG in many of the situations that came around. By the way, I heard about SDF Macross now being available on Hulu. Now, I guess that's a good thing, but it kind of brings up one of the points I had about HG; showcasing Robotech is always top priority. Their franchise has been available freely there for months, and it's only now that the originals are starting to become available as if it's an afterthought. Plus, it's the ADV version, so they're really just screwing with us to make Robotech look better. We're going to hear more of the unflattering comparisons based on the dubs once again.
-
If it was really working, why are the only people making a big deal about it these days a robotech.com/robotechx.com moderator and a fringe Robotech talkshoe podcaster? Even the industry/industries HG wants to associate with these days do not make a big deal about their actions except when someone interviews Carl Macek because of his role in creating the modern anime distribution industry and something negative like the Mechwarrior Reboot situation. At best, these tidbits about Robotech's 25th Anniversary sound like fluff pieces for content.
-
This sounds like the best time for Carl Macek to really show what he's made of; if he really was the sole focal point for Robotech's success, he should be able to continue where he left off or redo his intended story the way it was supposed to. No help from the crews from Macross, Southern Cross, and Mospeada, just him, everyone in HG, and whoever they hire to turn his ideas into animation and other media for a change. He shouldn't be restricted by "flawed" animation this time around if he was serious about all that rhetoric.
-
Actually, I thought these days Carl Macek is stuck defending everything he did to create the Robotech franchise because the industry that grew thanks to it went against Robotech and people rightfully valued the work of original creators more than translators and editors. If people cared less about where their entertainment came from, Macek would really be basking in the glory of his franchise. Instead, he'll always be on the defensive about it, even slanderous.
-
I challenge that assertion; excessively relying on a narrator to explain what the audience should feel at a given time and spoil plot and character developments ahead of time is not empowering at all. That's spoon-feeding a story to an audience you think are idiots.
-
Yeah, that's a common thing these days. The real challenge is to find people who aren't sellouts for Robotech, from all sides of the situation.
-
That's probably the only time he'll ever defend Shadow Chronicles until he reverts back to crazy rants about it. That is, unless he loves it now only by default.
