Not to mention that the plastic is smooth and glossy so the paint will have a harder time adhering unless you rough it up with some sandpaper. In addition, you'll likely be scraping the paint off the nose cone every time you transform it into battroid mode due to the way the chest piece has to squeeze over the nose in order to lock in. I didn't bother to add a flat coat on my 19S for this very reason.

The renewal versions are sooooo much better than the first versions both in design, looks, and QC. However, I personally wouldn't spend $500 on one, especially to scalpers.

It's said to be a toy. I wish they would release it as both. Maybe they'll pull a 1/3000 SDF-1 on us and release a kit later at half the price and comes with more goodies that they won't make available to the people who bought the toy

Just from a logical standpoint, it would make no sense for them to make an adapter for battroid mode that looks like it only works with the SV-51/YF-21 type stand which you could only obtain with the SV-51 and the first release of the YF-21 than the more widely available launch arm and mighty block stands... unless they either planned on including the stands or finally making these stands available separately. The only other valk they released that came with adapters for that stand but didn't include the stand itself was the VF-22S which they just lazied out and reused the YF-21 adapters. The fighter and GERWALK adapters could be used with either type of stand since they also had the launch arm type peg built into the adapters, but the battroid adapter was useless if you didn't already have a stand from the 21 or SV-51 or if they were already being used by said valks. Personally, I'd rather they not include the stand as that would make the price higher. I just hope they have a battroid mode adapter that works with the launch arm and mighty blocks as well.

So I take it that it's going to come with a YF-21 type stand since they seem to have already made an adapter for it.

I think it's more like the butterface girl of valks. Nice body, but the face isn't much to look at I dunno, I somehow like the head unit on it now. I think maybe because it looks very robotic. -
It could do without the blade thingies sticking out of the ends of the main cannons and the arms and legs to stand to be a bit shorter, but I wouldn't call it horrible looking, IMO.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the 1/3000 TV SDF-1 kit in the first Wonderfest post on the front page. http://mrd-3d.com/anime/macross.html It doesn't look transformable to me, but I don't know if it's planned not to be or if that's just a prototype. Either way, it looks pretty awesome and detailed. I wouldn't mind having one of these as it would look good with the DYRL version with the amount of detail it has. And yes, I realize it's not a toy, but it looks to be the closest thing we have to a nice looking rendition of the TV SDF-1.

I love the weathering job you did on the 25, 1J, and 11. Did you use an airbrush for that?

So the armor is finally being released? I can't wait to put it on my Ozma VF-25. It's just not the same without the armor.

Nothing new here. Just an old toy. I was rearranging my display case and realized that I've never seen my VT-1 in battroid mode before. I've always been afraid to transform it because I was afraid the shoulder parts would break since they came cracked out of the box. I said to myself, "F- it. Here goes...", and fully transformed it for the first time despite having this thing for years. My tastes/perceptions must have changed over the years because I used to think the VT-1's battroid mode looked stupid with that "head", but now I think it actually looks pretty good. And yes, I only just realized that I forgot to open up the sides of the "head" unit before taking the pics. -
Great job on repainting the stripes. I'd also like to see more pics of it from other angles and modes.

That armor pack looks awesome. I mainly wanted just the gun and missile pack that should have come with the EX to start with, but the armor looks really good on the toy. I'm glad I put down a pre-order. The only thing I hope is corrected or is just due to lack of attention from the person who put it on is the large gap all along the front of the leg armor where the panel is.

Despite being mostly unassembled, the assembled parts look pretty good and well detailed and makes me want it more. To paraphrase Isamu... This is really an impressive fighter, even the the way that it lays there in pieces.

Hard to say. I'm not digging their new site. It's less informative to me. They don't even show the different shipping options and costs on the page anymore for in stock items.

All three of Alto's rides. I think the lesson we can learn from Alto is that the more birds you wreck, the more likely people will give you new toys to play with -
I really hope they do put out a standard VF-171. My plan is to display the EX version in battroid and use the standard 171 as the fighter mode display.

I agree that it's a pretty solid toy all around. It has excellent representations of all three modes with respect to the line art. My only personal gripe with the toy is the way the cockpit doesn't stay solidly in place in fighter mode and is so fiddly.

I'm guessing the lack of a double jointed elbow to let it bend beyond 90 degrees is one of them. Aside from that, I can't really think of anything else articulation wise.

New pics of my VF-171EX after panel lining, weathering, and clear coat applied. Just battroid pics for now. -
Was it the little flap that you had to slide into the back of the head when you try to move the chest back into place for fighter mode? That part stumped me until I took a close look at where it was getting stuck and where pieces could go. I did some initial panel lining and detailing on mine. Trying to decide if weathering and clear coating it is a good idea. Unlike the VF-17, it seems like a lot of things scrape together due to the tight tolerances which would be bad for any clear coating. On the other hand, I want to try to protect the existing paint applications from rubbing off... decisions, decisions...

Got mine today. Had a hell of a time trying to figure out how to transform it as it was hard trying to tell what the instructions were trying to illustrate. Despite all that, the wings on mine stayed in place from fighter to battroid and back. I did manage to knock off the left chest gun and one of the landing gear bay doors... and the head.. during the process of trying to figure out how to transform it. It's definitely a lot trickier than the Yamato VF-17 is.
