What's Safe to Use for Detailing over Tamiya Acrylics?
MacrossJunkie replied to GU-11's topic in The Workshop!
I don't know if this helps answer your question, but the gundam paint markers are acrylic as well so if you mess up with the paint and need to wipe it off, you risk wiping off the underlying acrylic too. They may also end up mixing with the acrylic base coat as well when you apply them. I guess just be very careful and don't mess up -
Well, yeah if you're paying an invoice that's in Yen. It just sounded like some people were could actually USD to NY. I don't know why bother asking them to change an invoice from USD to JPY then if you are paying the same price in Yen either way.

Macross Collectibles Market Watch - Current Auction/Store SOLD prices
MacrossJunkie replied to jvmacross's topic in Toys
Well I can't blame people for that. I splurged to get the 17D, 19F, and 19P as those were the variants I was missing still. With those, I have every valk variant released by Yamato aside from the 19Kai which I wouldn't even display in my collection even if I got one for free. Now if supplies and opportunity permit, I'll probably just collect a few more VF-1s like Kakizaki's to complete Vermillion squadron or just for their looks, but I won't go out of my way for them. -
I'm just curious how it seems that some people have been able to pay in USD.
-
How well the 19 fits together seems to vary. My 19S fit together reasonably well with few gaps in fighter mode, but when I got the F, it was surprisingly much worse. The wings just wouldn't fit in properly, leaving relatively sizable gaps where the wing tabs into the chest piece and the part that tabs into the leg pops out a lot. Then I got the P and that thing was the most perfectly fitting 19 ever. I never got the 19Kai since that thing is truly fugly to me and couldn't bring myself to buy one, so I can't compare how well that thing fit together compared to the P.

Macross Collectibles Market Watch - Current Auction/Store SOLD prices
MacrossJunkie replied to jvmacross's topic in Toys
Interesting that it has gotten that popular, considering it didn't seem to sell very well and a lot of people seemed to feel it was too plain looking. I wonder if it's just people who are trying to complete their collections now after seeing the valks disappear one by one. -
I get that too. I don't know how other people are able to pay in USD to avoid using paypal's crappy conversion rates or foreign transaction fees if I select the option to use my credit card's conversion instead.
-
Yes, they will absolutely ruin your clearcoats as well. It has happened to me with both lacquer and acrylic clearcoats.
-
The clear plastic is actually also painted. It's just painted with a clear red paint. The plastic itself is not colored. So bare plastic still seems to be safe. Just have to watch out for the painted surfaces.
-
Sorry, no deterrence from me. Mine is also still pristinely white. It's a very well designed toy that looks great in all three modes.

Looks fantastic so far, Kurisama!

That's good to know. With the recent debacle with NY cancelling orders people had with them after a week of waiting, I'm a lot more wary now. I'll give HKC a couple more days before I start emailing them.
-
...And NY just cancelled my order as well. Despite this stuff still showing as available the day after I had put my order in. I guess they really were selling stuff they had no stock for.

Wha? So they were selling non-preorder items that they didn't have? Now I'm worried about my order.

The 19P is HK$1,899 at hkcollectibles still and as far as I know is the cheapest price you're going to get right now. That's around $245 USD.
-
Haha. I bought those same things too! I wanted the P and the D at the very least. As for the 19F I'm going to steal one of the parts from it to replace the broken piece on the hip for my S and keep the F in fighter mode instead. At least until either I can get someone to make a 3d model of it to submit to shapeways or I somehow figure out how to do that myself. I'm not even sure where to begin with that for the 2nd option.

I'm in the same boat. I had also purchased perhaps one of the last VF-17D w/ super packs sets from them on the 13th and it also still shows "Preparation in progress". I had emailed them about it on Monday and they replied that my order would be sent Tuesday and at the latest on Thursday. It still is showing "Preparation in progress" today. So I'm not really sure what is going on. Thanks for the tip on its availability. I thought I had missed out on the 19P. I went and placed my order on it yesterday.

Gawk at these piles of Macross toys..Back in the day...
MacrossJunkie replied to VALKYRIE-EXCHANGE.COM's topic in Toys
Great pics. It's always fun to see things behind the scenes. I recall I must have gotten at least a couple valks as well as the fx bootlegs for DYRL, Macross 7, and possibly FB2012. -
Wow, that looks gorgeous. I really like the choice of colors too. Much better looking than the purple on the radiator fins and guns and such on the toy version.
-
Man, this sucks. So I'm guessing this is it then and we won't be seeing any restocks from HLJ, NY or elsewhere? Wish I got in on the 19P when I had the chance but a lot of expenses came up =(

Ah, yeah. lorn_13 said it didn't match either. I think we may end up have to mix our own colors and try to match it as closely as possible.
-
I'm seriously considering getting one of these because the head it comes with just looks so dull and plain. As someone else said, it looks more like a balding head with a receding hairline. My only real concern with getting this custom head is finding an exact paint color match to make it look the same as the rest of the valk. If anyone has found a color match, please say so here.
-
Your custom looks wonderful, vf_1s. All those stickers really make it look more detailed.

What I have is called Collectors Hold Museum Putty. Product description says this: I haven't tried it on painted surfaces, but I suppose I could try and see what the long term effects are. There doesn't seem to be any grease or oils to it though.

Just completing my photo set of the 171EX after doing the wings and missile pod. Edit: fixed hyperlink on first fighter mode pic.
