If I recall, it is about 1/900 scale if you do the math using the stated length of the Quarter in cruiser mode (472m) vs the length of the toy in cruiser mode (roughly 20-21" I think it was?). The valks it comes with are too large.

Thanks. Actually, I did the weathering with acrylic paint instead of the tamiya powders that I normally use which would require a clear coat. I handled the valk for a while through a bunch of transformations without any of the paint coming off. Secondly, when I say clear coat, I more mean it in the sense of how I use it for all my other valks that I do this sort of thing with. In that I cover the entire valk with layers of a clear finish to both protect weathering and give it a final finish with either a semi-gloss or flat look. For the 19F, the weathering itself had a different, flatter sheen than the glossy plastic, which looked kinda bad so I had to blend it by lightly spraying a bit of gloss coat over the areas that I had sprayed weathering on.just to hide the different sheen of the weathering. So in this case, I selectively sprayed a few areas with Future to give it better uniformity, I avoided the front of the legs, some of the underside, the nose cone, and the side of the legs. It's not ideal and I would have preferred using a semi-gloss if I could, but there's just too much part rubbing to allow that. So I went with a compromise by keeping it glossy so I wouldn't need to coat the entire thing and the areas I did spray wouldn't look out of place. -
Dang... I should have waited for HLJ instead of paying the jacked up price at NY.

Thanks! I think I've finally got comfortable enough to use an airbrush to do weathering more often. It's very hard to achieve subtlety with the tamiya weathering kits and actually a bit more time consuming as well. they still have their place and uses though. I'm still not comfortable enough to trust myself to doing other people's valks however. Yeah, ithe photos came out pretty vibrantly. I was actually considering desaturating the photos to tone it down some. I hope you're doing better now! -

Yamato 1/60 VF-1 Kit Custom/Detailing by Kye

Nice. Those battery coin holders are pretty small. That modeltrainsoftware.com shop is where I got the LEDs and battery coin holder + switch for my SDF-1. Good service and friendly people, based on my correspondences with them. The smallest of their 3V LEDs are very small but still insanely bright which is great.- 210 replies

(Guess there's a limit to the number of images I can put in a single post.) I didn't do anything special with my VF-4G. No amazing custom paint jobs like a bunch of people have done. Just stuck with the default and tried to make it look as good as I could. Repainted the beam guns and and metallic brass on the insides of the nozzles. Airbrushed on the weathering and did a flat coat. -

I've spent the past few days working on some valks. Been feeling rather unmotivated to do much with my valks the past few months, but I'm slowly getting through my backlog of recent acquisitions. This is probably the best I can do with my 19 without being able to put any clear coats on it. -
It's really not entirely Bandai's fault that the "no step" markings are on the underside of the wings. They just tend to copy the animation and line art mistakes and there were plenty of goofs and shortcuts made in Frontier.

Yamato 1/60 VF-1 Kit Custom/Detailing by Kye

Are those tiny battery boxes available online or did you find them in a local shop? I'd be interested in getting some also if they are small enough. It looks like you're going to try to get the HUD to light up as well? That would be pretty sweet if you can manage that. Definitely looking forward to seeing your progress on this.- 210 replies

I need to get the VF-25 Master File book. A lot of nice looking schemes and images.

Yeah, the tab on mine didn't look broken. It's just that it did nothing to hold the shoulder down even slightly. No matter how hard I look on my 19F, I can't figure out why the wings don't seem to fit right. It's as if the wings don't really fit the shape of the legs. They seem alright in GERWALK, but as soon as I put the legs up for fighter, the legs prevent them from attaching as well as my 19P or S. I might as well check those flaps too because I'm at a loss on what the source of the problem is.

Oh, that's strange, the 19S didn't come up when I had looked. Well I looked again and now TV Kaki is gone. So it's definitely 3 now.

3 now. The apocalypse is nigh!
-
Me too, because the color scheme looks awesome, but I would leave it in fighter mode.

I think the head unit looks a bit silly. It's got an epic dolphin-like forehead even more pronounced than the metal siren's from MacII that would make even Jay Leno's chin feel insecure.
-
Apparently Yamato didn't really do much to make the shoulder pauldrons on the 19P attaches securely unless mine is a fluke. The other day, I was taking it out of fighter mode and was unlatching the shoulder from the back of the leg and the shoulder cover popped right off. I couldn't find any pegs that would keep it in place. All that was really there was a tiny bit of glue at the end. It looks like it could have supported a metal pin, which I guess was left over from the Kai. The cover piece didn't have any holes for a pin though. In the end, I just had to glue it back in place and hope it holds.

Or the remaining people that want one aren't willing to pay that much for one. I wouldn't mind getting a 2nd one, but not badly enough that I would pay $200 + shipping for it.

If you look at current exchange rates, USD, AUD, and CAD are all within a few cents of each other. As for the others, 1 USD is about 1.24 SGD and 7.76 HKD.

Haha. What, you don't like Beaker? That Basara is pretty awful though. I don't know what they were thinking when they made the mold for him. -
I don't see any real problem using olive oil to lubricate other than it won't be as long lasting as lubricants made for that purpose, but it just means having to lubricate the needle or trigger more often. If it's easy to get, then so much the better.

Got around to stickering my new VF-19P, doing some light weathering on it, and dulling the colors a little with a dusting of very light gray. Couldn't clear coat it because it just keep scraping off the nose and other areas. -
I'm not sure. It might possibly work. I don't know if it might be too thick and cause clogging or not. Could maybe try mineral oil or olive oil.

Unfortunately Bandai doesn't sell them separately. You'd probably have to buy one from someone who doesn't want theirs.
