The v1 stand will scrape the paint off the front of legs (source: personal experience). I wouldn't recommend it.

Mine has been "preparation in progress" for a few days now at NY. That seems like a long time to "prepare" a package.

Argh. Always at a time when I'm either asleep or was driving to work.

I agree. They seemed to nuts with the made up markings. I particularly don't like the solid white lines on the chest and shoulder parts, the 101 on the shoulders and the Antares101 on the shield. I'm going to try to remove what I can when I get mine. I had to double check the movies and the art booklet that came with the Sayonara no Tsubasa blu-ray and the VF-27 definitely didn't have those extra markings. It should be identical to the TV version. The YF-29 and 30 are even more advanced, but they have as much detail as the 25. The 25, 27 and 29 are also all based off of the YF-24. Even if they didn't put in the details that the model had, it would have been nice if they put in all the panel lines that the animation had at the very minimum. There are fewer screw holes in this new release, and the ones that are there, have square caps over them instead of round ones which means some changes to the molds were made.

Wow, Dobber. That looks very good, especially for free handed work. That must have been extremely mind numbing and tedious to do!
-
Ah, I think you're right. But, yeah... the shield connector is garbage on the YF-29. It wiggles around like a loose baby tooth.
-
ff95gj, Could you also comment on if they improved the gunpod any? I see they changed the connection point to use the handle instead and modified the secondary hook, but I'm curious as to whether they tightened up the halves of the barrel so that the ends remain on an even level to each other. On both of mine, the two halves are kind of floppy when split apart and when upside down as it is in fighter mode, one side droops down lower than the other. To prevent that, I'd have to cheat by tucking them on top of the front landing gear wheel, which I hate.

I'm thinking it's the lighting also. The first pic makes the turret gun look more yellowish, but the 2nd, rear angled shot makes it look like it's the same as the rest of the fighter. I wish they did something with the shield connector for fighter mode. It's not stable and doesn't hold well in comparison to the renewal 25's and it really shows in that second pic.

Man, if they release the Grace version again, I hope they can fix the colors on it like they did with the RVF-25 renewal. The non-matching shades of green on it just looks terrible. Thanks for the confirmation on the angling lock for the crotch part! Does the landing gear collapse easily on yours? I didn't know it was an issue for the 27. My version 1's hold the landing gears in place pretty well. It looks to me like it has screwhole covers now, which is a big plus. For reference for those that want to compare, here's what the version 1 looks like on the ventral side.

The differences may be subtle, but they add up and go a long way toward making the battroid mode look a whole lot better. I just want to know if the crotch part can stay angled on its own or if it really needs that spacer part. All the pictures I've seen seem to have it on there. I'm glad they also fixed the crooked "101" on the starboard stabilizer that was an issue on the version 1 VF-27. They also remembered to put the metallic green paint near the guns on the wing nacelles and on the shield, where I had to paint that myself.

I think the main complaint from people is the price for what you get. Especially after mark ups. The original one was easily gotten for less than MSRP and you didn't even have to camp for it and refresh every second to get one at an insane time. I got my first one from AmiAmi for a total of 14000JPY after EMS shipping. I then decided to pick up another one two months later at 15,686JPY after EMS shipping. Even if you go by MSRP, which was 14,000 (which is about how much the renewal 25s have been also), the super packs that come with the new one aren't really any more substantial than the VF-25 super packs, which are currently just 5,350 for the 25G's set. The increased cost of this in comparison, especially since quite a few people have had to pay higher than MSRP just to pre-order it, is like a web exclusive without the benefit of ease of purchasing that a web exclusive would have had. The perception of value for what you're paying isn't there, which gives rise to complaints about the product. That said, I bought one myself because battroid mode is lacking on the original and this newer release looks far better in that mode and more functional as well with less fiddly renewal styled shoulder block joint and better designed renewal style wrists/hands where the original had limp, pathetic wrists that had zero ability to hold up the gunpod. If they had actually gone the whole way and put in as much effort into the details that they did with the renewal 25s, I might have purchased 2 to replace the fighter mode displayed one as well.

I had originally considered it a renewal due to the upgraded shoulders, neck, and hips, but then I realized what it was lacking for me to really consider it a true renewal. The VF-25 renewals had the extra time taken to add in the surface details that was in the line art and the 1/72 models. This new VF-27 release still only has the minimal details visible in the renders for the show, where the 1/72 model had much more surface detail. Fighter mode is going to look rather plain when sitting next to the VF-25 renewals.

So what are you willing to pay for Arcadia YF-19?
MacrossJunkie replied to 1/1 LowViz Lurker's topic in Toys
I've prepared myself to pay VF-4 prices. Hopefully it will end up being less so I can consider getting two. But I don't see it being any less than $300 realistically. -
Value speculation: Will Arcadia devalue 98% of Yamato releases?
MacrossJunkie replied to Gakken85's topic in Toys
I can't really say with much experience about this as I don't collect for the value of things (I devalue all of my valks within a week of getting them ), but from the perspective of a collector, wouldn't the fact that an original 1st copy made by a company that is now no longer existing (at least under the same name) hold some value? Besides, as far as we can tell with the VF-1S (aside from the extra stand ), there's hardly if any improvements and will likely just have fixes that were already implemented in later releases of the VF-1. I'm not even sure how many people really want that stand. The base looks comparable to the ones that came with the YF-21 and SV-51 which were huge and took up tons of room. I've removed nearly all my SV-51 and YF-21 stands from my display cases because they just needlessly eat up so much space. That said, it seems common sense to me that the more of something that becomes available to people, the less the individual item is worth in a market because you're satisfying the demand of more people. So if they release more of things that were released before, the value of the originals will drop. I'm not sure how many people actually care if something was made by company A vs company B, if the items are comparable. Even less so if the newer release has improvements. But as Graham says, we don't have a clue what they may or may not have in store for the future. That could be the extent of the VF-1 releases they have planned (not likely). Maybe they go under again before other future planned releases come out (hope not!). What if they go under before the next YF-19 comes out? People would feel rather foolish selling off their v.1's and scrambling to try to reacquire some. My suggestion to people is don't worry about the value, and just get them because you like the toy and can enjoy it in the present. Just don't start panicking and start selling off your entire Yammie collection in anticipation for all new and improved versions that may or may not come out of Arcadia. -
Yeah, unfortunately, I haven't seen Bandai re-release any of their web exclusives yet. I wouldn't mind getting some things that I had passed on before like Alto's full armor and the super pack for his 29. I was going to repaint the ones for the Focker colored 29, but then I realized that I couldn't find any decals for the SMS logos or lettering anywhere.

Not to mention there's no guarantee you'll get a problem free toy back. You could get another problematic piece of junk that is either better or worse and have to decide again if you want to gamble another $40+ to ship again for try number 2. It's so completely retarded when it would be cheaper for both parties involved if they would just send replacement parts like Yamato did.

Mine came out to be ¥25,590 after shipping. That was using the cheaper SAL air shipping option instead of EMS or FedEx. I kept waiting to pay mine, seeing if the exchange rate would go back closer to 100 yen to the dollar, but ever since last week, it has been dropping a little bit each day. I finally said screw it and paid it before it got worse. I'm sure after bank fees and exchange rates are involved, it will end up costing me around $270-280.

I think Bandai's VB-6 is really underrated. I have rarely even seen people show pics of it. It's a pretty faithful adaptation of how it appeared in Frontier and it's solidly built with plenty of clicky joints. Actually, it's only a little smaller than Yamato's 1/100 monster. I calculated it to be about 1/110 myself using the length of the toy in shuttle mode vs the stated length in its specs.

I've done it both ways and either way fits just fine in the shield. That said, I tend to just keep the fingers extended and the thumbs positioned so that they're parallel to and touching each other.
-
I don't see why not. Even so, you would still have to deal with it lacking the white "NUNS" printed on it though or figure out how to get it on there.

You can just pull it right off. It's actually very easy to do.

That custom GBP set is badass. I love all the scratch built parts and extra detail he added to it.

I think you just really lucked on on your purchases. I don't think it's user error that is causing these things to have stress marks/crack and break. It certainly wasn't a problem with Alto's 171EX. The most I've seen with that release was just missing parts. Of the two 171s I got, the one I got from NY was flawed all around with missing and stray pieces, and a stress mark in one of the shoulders out of the box which eventually led to it cracking and breaking. The other I got from HLJ has been perfect. I had transformed it back and forth multiple times while weathering it and taking photos of it and didn't notice any issues. I'm still going to try to avoid transforming that one any further if I can help it. These two were first batch as well, so I don't think it makes any difference. It's just luck of the draw on whether you get a problem free one or not. You probably should have done the lotto when you found out you had 6 good ones. Or perhaps not because you may have used up all your luck with the 171s

It doesn't seem very likely the battroid exit would be implemented due to the fact that the front half of the canopy would be connected to the front edge of the cockpit area which wasn't true with the VF-19 F, S, P and kai which had a single piece canopy.
