I had to mix it myself. I used brown, black and olive green and just mixing it until I got it to where I wanted it. I think I got it to about 99% match. When looking at it up close and comparing, it's extremely difficult to tell if there's any difference. The only part where I strayed from how they appear in the MF episodes is where I put the stripes on the wings and how thick they are. In the show, the lines would be about half the thickness and positioned adjascent, directly below where I painted the stripes. But I thought that looked silly because they had the stripe on the wing glove and the stripes on the wings didn't continue off that. So I painted it the way I did instead since it made more sense to me.

I masked and painted the stripes on mine. I think it looks much better now.

Does the crotch plate fall off easily on anyone else's 25A? It was never a problem with the F,G,S or RVF, but my 27 and this 25A both have crotch plates that fall off easily during transformation or sometimes just normal handling.

The Macross Zero stuff didn't sell well the first time around.

That would be lorn_13 here in the forums. -
Well yeah, but then everything else will look off instead Or actually install fluorescent bulbs in your display case and everything in there will eventually yellow over time and the greenish tint will become more beige as a result. It was like this with Bandai's version 1 RVF-25. The color mismatch was merely bad under sunlight and neutral white light, but hideous under more yellowish lights like soft white fluorescents and incandescents. The VF-171 also looked more teal under neutral white/sunlight while greenish under soft white since the more yellow you add to the blue, the greener it looks. Under cool white lighting (>=5500k), it would look even bluer.

That looks great, wm! I do like the contrast in finish between the super parts and the fighter. I'll need to keep that in mind for the next time.

For those curious - Here it is under a neutral white light (5000k): The white is white and the body is slightly green tinged. Here it is under a "soft white" incandescent light: The white is more orange hued and the body is closer to beige.

I'm going to paint mine up more like the scheme shown in the tv episodes with a stripe near the leading edge of the wings and the "V" stripes along each side of the cockpit. The green isn't too strong at least. It's more or less like that screenshot I posted earlier. The stripes are more like olive drab than brownish though.

Just got my 25A. I was surprised it was as green as it was. The prototype pics never really gave much sense of the end color. TCracker's pics were actually closer to how it appears with having a greenish tint to it. So I'm trying to find a Tamiya paint color that's closest to the darker color on the nose and tail fins. Olive Drab perhaps?

Thanks! I'm not really sure what you mean by solid black lines. However, the lighting kind of washed out most of the weathering on the ARMD-L and the entire toy was extremely pastel to begin with out of the box. Here's some shots of the Quarter doing yoga... I mean in carrier mode. This time, there's no light directly reflecting off the surface of the deck so the details should be more visible. -
Wha?! Maybe the complainers just need to adjust the color balance on their monitors. The color on the prototype seems pretty spot on to me.
-
That looks absolutely fantastic! I see you got the hang of using the Tamiya weathering kit Thanks for sharing! I also had a heck of a time getting the legs to snap back in with the packs on. My first time around, I was struggling with that for quite a while. The legs have to be perfectly aligned to have a chance of snapping the peg in on both legs.

Oh man, those are pretty pics. I haven't made a model in my life, but that hasegawa VF-25 makes me want to give it a try.

I think the 21 was also the last to use those terrible thick double layer stickers. The destroids, VF-1's, and the VF-11 that came after all used the current style of stickers we got until Yamato's final release. So is the Arcadia stuff the same type of stickers, waterslide decals, or dry transfers?

Every time I've looked at my Mac Quarter, I felt a little dissatisfied with the way it looks. When I first got it however many years ago now, I painted the areas they neglected to paint, according to the line art, and added a bit of weathering with the Tamiya weathering kits. I still didn't get any sense of scale like the cap ship it was supposed to be because it was so plain and generally lacking in surface detail, so I drew in panel lines some time later, inspired by some shots of various scenes in some episodes. It was better but still didn't look quite right to me. Last night, I used my airbrush to weather it further and this time also treated the panel lines I drew in as actual panel lines and weathered them too with varying widths from broad to hairline. Not really sure what else I could do with it at this point other than finding some glow in the dark stickers and applying them all over like I did with the SDF-1. Here's how it came out with last night's endeavor: -
It's under the shoulder pauldron on the back of the leg in fighter mode. You can kind of see it here in this pic. I don't know why they don't have it attached to the back of the legs for battroid mode in this pic, but it ought to be there:

Custom scratch built 1/60 Zentradi Uniform for VF-1A TV Max

That actually looks pretty comparable to Yamato's. So how much commission would your mom be getting since she'd be doing all the work? -
I would have liked another 2 more high maneuverability missiles at least so that there would be enough for each hardpoint on the wings, but that's just a very minor quibble.
-
Hmmm... somehow the prototype just looked better to me. The toy in those shots looks so bland and just not very good in general. I think the dark olive color on the nose and tail fins looked better with a darker shade like on the prototype. I might have to try painting the stripe on the sides like this: I think some scenes had a stripe near the leading edge of the wings as well. As it stands right now, it just needs... more.

I wouldn't mind if they just did a "Macross The First" version.
-
Which ones already have it in stock?
-
I'm sure they'll get around to re-releasing it. Just have to wait it out.

Unfortunately, the v1 25G's sniper rifle wouldn't be mountable in fighter mode on the renewal if you went that route, however.
