What aspect ratio was it in ?
-
I was thinking about this and was wondering how SDF MACROSS would work out on blu-ray? I know macross was remastered a few years back by AnimEigo and released later by ADV which is the version I have seen. I have heard that the Japanese also remastered SDF MACROSS but I don't know which version was better. So I am wondering how much more work would have to be done to the footage to be able to put it on blu-ray. Also I am trying to figure out how they would deal with the aspect ratio. leave it in the 4:3 standard or some how put in 16:9 ? I am not really sure how it would be put in 16:9 unless it was stretched or something. I also wonder if would even be put on blu-ray I really cant think of any anime from the 80's that been put on blu-ray.

Five to six years doesn't sound to bad. So if they put out two collections a year over say six years then we may get about twelve volumes then. So we could end up seeing a whole new continuity for the original Macross story if he doesn't do the nine episodes. He could instead do the launching of the Megaroad . Wasn't the launch of the Megaroad supposed to be the original end for the series ? By the way who was Ishiguro? I haven't heard of him or I didn't pay enough attention to the credits. Gubaba in your opinion what do you think Mikimoto should do. Go with the nine episodes or go with kawamori's view on them ?

I am really excited to see MACROSS the First and how it turns out. I can't wait to see Mikimotos current look of the characters. I do wonder how many years it's going to take to adapt the story but I imagine it will probably take a good while to do it.

Didn't Kawamori say at some point that the real story was somewhere between SDF and DYRL? I wonder if Kawamori and Mikimoto had a discussion about combining the two continuities together for MACROSS the First or if Mikimoto will just do his own adaption and mix the stories the way he wants to. Either way it should be interesting to see what he does.

I noticed on the cover art that hikaru looks to be in a DYRL style flight suit. Makes me wonder if Mikimoto is going to combine elements of the tv series and film.
-
That comic will be a must see then. Any recommendations on a place that will be selling Macross Ace? I don't imagine The First or any of the other stories will ever see a English release. So i guess I would just have to enjoy Mikimoto's art because I don't think I could figure out how to translate it.

So that pretty much means that there wont be anymore Macross released out side of Japan unless it comes through HG then?
-
Wow it is hard to believe that Big West didn't defend their trademark to Macross. Is Big West currently trying to regain their trademark ?
-
So is Macross the first supposed to be an adaption of the original Macross story? I would assume so considering it is called The First but you never know. I gotta say that I have always loved Mikimoto's art.

Maybe they want to get their stock down on the HD remaster before they put out the blu ray or they could be waiting for the next anniversary of macross to put it out.

I'll join in on this one. I my self think that Misa and Hikaru made love in the Protoculture city. The way the scene played out with them kissing and showing them embracing and then fading out and then in the next scene with Misa zipping up her flight suit with Hikaru in the same room and the way they kissed each other when the Macross showed up that was a passionate kiss between lovers in my opinion. I was thinking leading up to that point it seemed that Misa and Hikaru started understand each other better after the time they spent in the tent. After that they seemed closer to one another when they reached the Protoculture city and when the computer in the city first activated I notice that she went and held on to hikaru. In the scene when he returned to Misa after he had searched the Protoculture city and found Misa setting the table and welcoming him home I think he saw her as a woman and not just a commanding officer and Hikaru seemed surprised at seeing her like that. When they were sitting at the table both smiling at each other they were starting act like a couple . After that when Misa and Hikaru kissed and the way they kissed holding each other and the fade out it seems that they most likely made love before the Macross showed up to me. I my self think that Misa would only have given herself to Hikaru if she was in love with him and that she was sure that he was in love with her. I think Hikaru would have been the same with her. I think Misa and Hikaru would only have made love to each other if they were in love with each other and when they did I think they were in love. There are my two pennies on that one.

I agree that DYRL would look amazing on blu ray and be well worth the price to import it. Hopefully when they do they well throw every possible extra on it and maybe they could even put the old dub on it for completeness.

I am going to go with Macross DYRL I saw the movie a long time before I ever saw the tv series and I still love the movie. Here are some of the things I liked. Lots of time with Misa and Hikaru. Misa and Hikarus time on earth and watching them fall in love with one another. When Hikaru chooses Misa. Misa being on board the Macross during the final battle and Hikaru being the one to take out Boldoza. The designs for pretty much everything in the move. The detailed animation.

I was wondering if anyone had any info on what the story was supposed to be for the never completed Macross: Final Outpost: Earth movie? I looked in the compendium and I noticed there was a script writer listed for the first draft any idea if that was ever completed? Also how far did this movie actually get to being made and was this supposed to be a American movie or a Japanese movie?

The Macross dub was my introduction to macross. I remember going to the video shop and renting it all the time.I don't recall if the dub I rented was the bionoids or the unedited vhs that was a long time ago. When I did purchase the movie it was the unedited version that TheLoneWolf posted above. I believe DYRL is probably one of my favorite movies as well.

Thats true it is all fiction. I saw DYRL before I knew the movie was even called DYRL all I knew about it was that it was called MACROSS and I loved the movie. Now I am better educated and still love the movie. Well to satisfy my curiosity what was the PS2 game story line? Just a combination of TV and DYRL? Were their additional scenes not found either the TV version or the DYRL version?

Here is something I have been wondering about. Which version of events for the original story does Shoji Kawamori prefer SDF Macross or Macross DYRL? I don't know if he has ever said before or not but I was wondering what the general opinion was. I was thinking that since the movie was made after the tv series he might have put all of his favorite parts from the tv series into the film and make any changes to the story he wanted since he would have all new animation for the film.

I haven't had a chance to watch the movie as a whole (I am going save that for the holidays) but I did look at several parts of the movie and the voices are outstanding everyone did a great job on it. The only versions of DYRL that I have seen are my old vhs that i picked up in the 90s with the English dub and the region 2 perfect edition so its great to have a version a great dub. Good luck with the DVD by the way.

MACROSS PERFECT MEMORY SECRETS...
Sdf Prime replied to Kronnang Dunn's topic in Movies and TV Series
Thank you Kronnang Dunn and mechaban for posting these early designs. I love seeing the early versions of characters and mecha. Hopefully one day I will be able to find a copy of Perfect Memory and I can see all the secrets within this book. -
Yea I can definitely see the difference Love Story looks to have more vibrant colors and better defined lines in the artwork. Seeing images like these makes me feel like I would enjoy both of these books. It's alway interesting to see early designs and see the ideas that were floated around before Macross made it on air. I wonder what the story is with adding hoods too the uniforms? Thanks for posting the example of the artwork to.

Thank you for the info. I am surprised that they didn't put all the early design sketches in Perfect Memory and that the sketches in Macross Love Story are actually better quality.
-
Thanks for the info do the early character design sketches appear exclusively in the Macross Love Story book or do they also appear in books like Perfect Memory or This Is Animation books? Thanks again
-
Thank you for the info I will have to add the This Is Animation books to my list of Macross books that I am wanting to get. I was also looking at the AM JuJu : Macross Love Stories book would this book be a good buy also?

I have a question about some macross books. In the macross world book section I was comparing Perfect Memory and This Is Animation macross vol 3,5 and 7. I was wondering if you get Perfect Memory would you really need to have the This Is Animation books ? Would you be getting a lot of redundant material or would the This Is Animation books have some additional material ? Thanks in advance.
