I am trying to figure out how they would adapt robotech into a movie. Would they try to make a trilogy, one for each portion of the series or try to make a series of movies based solely on the Macross portion, from what I understand is the most popular portion of Robotech. Of course to make a series of movies the first one had better be successful or no one will be interested in making sequels.

RavenHawk, Sounds like the Sentinels comics might be worth taking a look at one day. I have only had a chance to read one of the Jack McKinney omnibus's of the first three Macross Saga novels and I really enjoyed it. I am looking forward to reading the next omnibus.

I sure hope it works when you get it uploaded after all the trouble it's given you. In my opinion It deserves to have the highest quality release you give it because it is an amazing fandub of the movie. Everyone did an amazing job.
-
RavenHawk, Have you ever read any of the Sentinels comics? At times I have wanted to check them out but was always afraid to because the Macross portion of robotech was always my favorite and I was afraid they would mess the characters up.
-
Yea, I hope Macross The First doesn't get in a hurry either and stays at consistently high quality. I thought that was pretty interesting that it appears Mikimoto started at where I assume Macross the First will probably end. I feel the same way about Mokimoto doing the Macross adaption, it doesn't get any cooler than that for me. I assume that Mikimoto is writing Macross the First but since I can't translate any of it I am just having to guess. I wonder if Macross the First will be two chapters and eighty pages in every issue of Macross Ace or not ?

Wow thats a lot of info in that wiki entry they even list the Jack McKinney novels.

From what you have said, If I start looking to get some robotech comics I think I will avoid Academy Blues and Breaking Point they sound pretty bad. I haven't gotten any robotech comics in a while but if you start looking around mostly all you can find are wildstorm books. Its a shame that if they still have the license that they are just sitting on it and not publishing something, I mean put out a trade paperback collecting some of the old material.

The real writer of Frontier (a conspiracy)
Sdf Prime replied to Alex's topic in Movies and TV Series
Now Samuel L Jackson is going to have to get a role in the live action movie so he can say that line. -
Ok, so Macross Ace came in the mail today (that was fast, I didn't expect it to get here so soon). Macross the First was easily my favorite comic in the magazine, I loved it and seeing Mikimoto drawing my favorite characters again. I like the little updates Mikimoto did to some some of the uniforms, but I wonder if Mikimoto will use the movie jumpsuit or something closer to the tv series uniforms for pilots.

I am really no help in this but I went with Amazon Japan and yes the shipping is just out there. I Just couldn't think of anyone else carrying this magazine I did think someone on ebay might carry it but I don't know if It would be that much cheaper and I didn't want to take a chance at not getting the mag.

Really, now that is interesting. I wonder what the Japanese fan opinion of robotech is then?
-
Beautiful, looks like some great stuff in the First. I cant wait get my copy.
-
So in theory one chapter could equal one Episode then that could mean 27 chapters or 36 depending which ending is used.

You know, after reading all of this, I think we need a super extended DYRL. Add an hour or two to help flesh everything out and give screen time to the characters that didn't get that much in the film like Global, Roy and Max. But if you were going to go through the trouble of adding all that additional footage to the beginning of the film and peppering additional scene throughout you might as well just make a OVA or something to give you the additional time needed to do every thing. Though I don't think I would really want anyone to mess with the original characters and story line again. Theres just to much of a chance of somebody screwing it up, and then you have a new debate SDF, DYRL or OVA which is cannon and and then we will be told 'somewhere in between ' the three, and the we all break down and cry .

Just wondering was shadow chronicles released in Japan? I don't imagine that original robotech (macross, southern cross, mospeda) ever was.
-
I remember how much the DYRL Perfect Edition cost a few years ago but it was well worth it to me (even if i don't understand Japanese) it was cool seeing it in widescreen to. I Know i would probably want Macross F on blu-ray but i am afraid to see how much that would cost, but maybe someday I will go for it or maybe the movie. From what you've said about Macross F comic I am willing to just be lost on that one.
-
So more than likely I should be totally lost on the Macross F adaption since it's starting in the middle. Maybe they will re adapt it again at a later date, but I doubt it for some reason. I am going to try and have a positive feeling that Macross the Fist will be good.
-
I am really only interested in Macross the First at the moment, I can't wait to see Mikimotos current look of the cast. I haven't seen Frontier yet so I guess all the Macross Frontier content will be a good introduction for me.
-
I would probably break down into tears if I had to take one apart . Especially if I was thinking about the cost of it getting shipped over here but then again if I bought two it wouldn't have cost to much more. But knowing as carefully as I tried to I would still probably mess up taking the book apart.

Macross The First is a manga by Haruhiko Mikimoto that will be serialized in Macross Ace magazine coming out at the end of the month. The Macross the First story may be an adaption of the tv story with DYRL designs but we wont know for sure until it comes out. You never know it could also be a mix between tv and movie story.
-
Wow $30 dollars, are they actually worth that much? Anybody know what they cost back when they came out?
-
Ah the fun of importing. I decided to order my copy from Amazon Japan. That seemed to be the best option for me since there aren't any stores around locally that would carry something like Macross Ace. I have never ordered from them before but hopefully everything will go smoothly. I am curious, why did you order two copies? One to keep sealed and protected forever and one to look at and translate?
-
glane21 I can understand why you used the DYRL designs I always liked those designs myself. I cant say for sure if I have the covert ops books or not I will have to take a look in my box and see. So would the sentinels books be worth getting? I thought about trying to collect those at one time but I was afraid some of my favorite characters from the macross saga might get screwed up so I never tried to get them.

I really need to take a look at my robotech comics. I have a good portion of the wildstorm books. I may have all that they released except for "Prelude to the Shadow Chronicles " which I don't know if I really want to see considering some if the thing I have heard about it. I think I have all but one issue of "robotech the macross saga" that came from comico. Wildstorm released "robotech the macross saga" in small trades but they never finished releasing all the issues and they only release four volumes of that. Maybe with the movie they will re release those in normal sized trades in the future. Anybody remember the ones released by antarctic press ? If my memory serves me correctly those books were some strange cats. They were using macross movie designs in those books which never existed in their robotech universe . I think the SDF-1 had a macross movie look but had the aircraft carriers instead of the ARMD carriers.

I wonder how much better the film that Bandai used was than the film that AnimEigo used and if the quality of the remaster was due to the film or just the process that Bandai and AnimEigo used. I am pretty sure that HG used the Macross remastered footage for when they released their robotech remastered portion of macross. I'll assume that the film that was remastered by AnimEigo was probably the same footage that HG received back in the 80's.
