True, but it's just sad that even TWE releases like this one are becoming hyper-competitive. Imagine the bloodbath when it's something highly desirable. It's stressful enough to get up in the middle of the night for regular PO Madness. Now we have Proxy PO Madness to deal with, where you have to get your request in fast, and hope they get back to you fast, so you can pay fast, so they can order fast. All because Bandai severely restricts the number of units a proxy can purchase. TWE was the last vestige of a more civilized buying process. Now it's gone, too. (And I don't do the middle of the night thing anymore. Not worth it. Would rather just pay a markup later. I think of it as a convenience fee so I can get a decent night's sleep and work the next day.)

Just received my cancellation notice from them. And my refund notice from PayPal came in right behind it.

Guess we'll see if those of us with pending orders are successful. Maybe FJ keeps track of requests and processes them in order instead of first come, first served (within reason). Should know in about 6-7 hours.

I've had them cancel a web exclusive order on me (Missile Set), but they did it pretty quickly (factoring in the time difference between Japan and here). They processed my request for a quote and asked for payment, then attempted to place the order after I paid, which makes sense. They discovered that they had already hit their ordering limit, imposed by Bandai, so they immediately refunded my payment and explained why. I've ordered a bunch of web exclusive items from them and have never had any issues. They tend to cost about the same, or in this specific case less, than other options like AE and NY. I'm still waiting for confirmation that my order went through. They might have already hit their limit. If so, I'll just do what @Shawn plans to do: wait for it to show up on YAJ or Mandarake for a reasonable price after release. I don't feel like paying AE or NY prices just for the convenience of being able to push the purchase button today. I'm trying to avoid AE at all costs these days, given how they treat their customers.

The "symmetry" argument is completely bogus because, as you say, the numbers are correct everywhere else. A modex is there to quickly tell you the aircraft identification. You shouldn't have to figure out which side of the aircraft you're looking at and then figure out if you have to read the numbers left to right or right to left to get the ID. And they aren't doing something truly symmetrical or the numbers would be mirror images, not just ordered differently. I also think asking collectors to put waterslide decals on their expensive toys to fix a manufacturing issue is unacceptable. And that's coming from someone who's been printing and using Macross decals for more than 17 years.

Wow, that's terrible. And an unusual QC fail for Bandai in this line.

What is repeated leg armor syndrome? I don't have the Hikaru 1A, just the 1S, and that one seems to be fine. Is it related to the smaller piece that goes on the back of the leg, as in there are two copies of the same side so you can't actually attach one of the larger pieces?
-
Yes, that's correct. But many sellers don't want to ship internationally, mark up the price, or you get hit with high shipping costs. It never hurts to check both options (Tenso or direct international shipping). I basically just leave my AJ profile set to my Tenso address these days and when I find something I want to buy, I'll do a quick check to see if it's available for international shipping and how that price compares to a domestic purchase plus Tenso's handling fees. Usually the item disappears or the price goes up, but not always.

There's a used VF-4G that costs more than a new one on amiami. That's a bit awkward until you look more closely. The new one has some box damage, otherwise it would be 12,120. Still higher than N-Y at 9180, but you might actually get it before Christmas 2023. Amazon has a bunch right around 9000, but that's for domestic shipping to a Tenso-like address, so there are additional costs to get it shipped overseas. Seems like, for now, these guys are stabilizing at 9-10,000.

So roughly what everyone else is charging right now, when you add up all of the taxes and fees they collect. Even Tenso takes their cut in handling charges and slightly-inflated shipping prices.

I think I speak for almost everyone here when I say that (1) I hope only minimal mold changes are needed and (2) I will definitely buy one if they're made. I've already set aside enough shelf space to have all three Strike kits next to each other, done up as Roy. Not sure what I'm going to do with the fighter-only kit, but I'm leaning towards making it a CF.

Is this different from the one he built for the Tengu Modelers exhibit in late December?

I have thoroughly enjoyed this thread over the past few days. So many popcorn GIFs I hadn't seen before. It really is a nicely built 1/48 Hasegawa kit. If anyone wants some white YCAPS NU stickers or decals, perhaps with some reversed modex numbers to match, let me know.

There was a sealed one on Jungle for several days listed at ¥27,500. Those normally go fast, so I was surprised it stuck around that long. Looks like someone finally snagged it last night. I'm thinking that is now the low end, with ¥30,000 being more normal. There are at least 10 on Amazon Japan for ¥29,800 with a 5% rebate, but you'd have to ship to a Tenso address or similar.

Someone made a 1/20 Enigma. That's an impressive amount of masking....

They really do seem to be at opposite ends of the spectrum. Wouldn't be hard to throw together a small sheet to take care of key markings that are missing for the DX (maybe even a 001 for the tailfin on the Hikaru 1S). Larger decal sheet for Arcadia valks would definitely be more affordable than the PF editions. Much appreciated!

I've been contemplating the idea of designing and printing replacement decals and stickers for this line. Both to deal with incorrect or missing markings and for custom projects. It wouldn't be difficult for me to do it, I just don't have a good feel for demand. I've been designing and printing stuff for valks for 17+ years now....

I was thinking about AJ, not Jungle. Sometimes, like with the VF-1S Hikaru I purchased, reasonably-priced stuff is only available domestically, so you get hit with the tax when you ship to a Tenso address, and then Tenso takes a little bit more when you ask them to ship an item individually or consolidate it with others. For AJ, Jungle, Mandarake, and Rakuten: yes, it's definitely better to have them ship directly to you if that's an option. Bypasses some or all of the tax and you don't have to deal with Tenso's fees. I feel like I sometimes have to use advanced calculus to figure out where the best deals are....
-
Unless you're shipping to a Tenso or other package forwarding address, which is domestic (pretty sure that's correct). Yes, Jungle does seem to include a handling fee that is roughly equivalent to the tax. Shops on Rakuten tend to do the same thing. That happened when I ordered a 1/60 VF-11B recently.
