Funny you mention Informed Delivery. I signed up for that over the weekend in the hope that I could see the missing DHL package in the system for exactly the reason you mention (there must be a number somewhere), but no dice this time. I could see lots of other stuff in transit, but not that package. It's still a good idea, though. I'm hoping that it works for my next one.

I agree! It's not a small town, but I guess DHL doesn't think it's profitable to have a hub here. Packages still show up at warp speed, though. And I love the desert.

For larger metro areas they probably handle delivery themselves, but definitely not here. Nearest DHL facility is Phoenix and I’m in Albuquerque, so they print a USPS shipping label, slap it on the box, and take it to the post office for the last leg. Shows up as “forwarded for delivery” in their tracking system.

Yeah, that annoyed me as well. I paid the UPS upcharge for my SSP set after having already paid for EMS. I'm glad that some MW members are benefiting from NY's generosity, but it sure would be nice for them to go back and credit those of us who paid. Odds of that happening are low. Edit: Just requested a refund from NY. I'll let you know what they say.

For MW members in the US who are using DHL (or thinking of doing so), you should keep the following in mind. I've used them a few times this past year with no difficulty and the fact that they use USPS for the "last mile" and my carrier just drops the packages in a parcel locker instead of making me drive into town and sign for them (I have to do that for EMS) has been great. And they're fast. Really fast. However, if anything goes wrong during the last mile, you're in a difficult spot. A package showed up as delivered to a parcel locker, but I didn't receive it. DHL's website lets you track by waybill number, but that number means nothing to USPS, so when you show up at the post office asking where your package is, they shrug and say that you have to give them the USPS tracking number or they can't help you. DHL's tracking site doesn't give you that number, which looks nothing like the waybill number, and at least in the US you can't see the "international shipment number" I've read about in several help forums (looks like EM 000 000 000 JP). You have to contact their customer service people and ask for it, which can take 1-2 business days. This story has a happy ending. I live in a small enough town that I was able to give my carrier a printout from DHL's tracking site and he found my package stuffed in the wrong parcel locker later that day while he was on his route. Nice guy.

As long as I get my 1/20 Strike Battroid, I'm happy
-
Both good points. I forgot about those. Wasn't enough to get me to pull the trigger on the Nex.
-
The same thing happened to me. I resisted this line until the Monster was announced. Once I had him, he needed company, so I've now picked up everything except the Hikaru 1A (the 1S is nicer-looking), the Messer VF-1S (non-canon color scheme), the Roy VF-4G (non-canon color scheme), and the Nex VF-2SS (only difference from Silvie is the blue chest stripe).
-
Shoot. Now I'm a bit less excited. I'll add this to my Max Watanabe wish list of things I want to buy as commercially-available products, right after the 1/20 Strike Battroid he kitbashed last year.

Thanks for the info! Sounds like Bandai has really upped the amount of glue in the newer releases. Shoot. I was able to find the post about the screw cover. It was 34 pages back and @SuperHobowas the one working on it. Looks like he was able to use a thin hobby tool to pry the cover off because only a little glue was used. Will keep thinking about whether or not I want to make customs. Might be too risky--at least for the Hayao TV 1A.

I've been looking at my Hikaru 1S and TV Max 1A, thinking that if I get an additional one of each I can convert them to a Roy 1S and TV Hayao 1A instead of waiting for Bandai to maybe get around to releasing them...someday. I'm a veteran valk customizer, so dealing with painting/decaling/detailing doesn't worry me. What I don't know is how much of the DX you can disassemble without causing a lot of damage to the toy. The arms and legs look to be mostly glued together, which does worry me. The Yamato 1/48s were great to work with, but they were also cheaper and more plentiful, so if you made a catastrophic mistake, you could easily get another one. I did notice in LEK's cell-shading tutorial videos that he did a partial breakdown of the 1S, which would be fine for Roy, but I really would need to take apart the arms and legs for Hayao. Is it possible to do more?
-
That is *a lot* more than I used to charge back in the day to customize Yamato 1/48s, even accounting for inflation. He's operating at a completely different level, though.

Doorbell rang about 15 minutes ago and this was waiting for me outside, courtesy of NY (via UPS). This has been the smoothest and fastest transaction I've ever had with them, which included a last-minute change to my shipping method. It will probably never happen again, so I'm savoring it. The set I ordered through FJ, shipped via EMS, hasn't moved at all in the past ten days. I don't expect to see it for a few months.
-
I was hoping that someone would get the joke
-
An additional data point: my one set shipped on Friday via UPS (switched from EMS) and I didn't place my order until the day after the second listing went live (payment processed on 12 June 2019). I haven't purchased many items from them, so I'm not in any way a VIP customer.
-
For Mandarake to ship a Yamato v1 1/60 CF to Albuquerque via DHL just cost me ¥6150. That's roughly twice the price of EMS for a package that size, and those v1 boxes are big. I hope AE comes back with a halfway decent estimate for you.
-
If you're in the US, it's now the only option you get. And even for the SAHRA branch, where you can normally see what shipping will cost before placing your order because the item is guaranteed to be available, they aren't showing the cost. You have to place the order and hope it's not exorbitant. I picked up a 1/60 Yamato late last week from their Nakano branch and that was my experience. It's supposed to be here by Tuesday evening, so they got it out the door fairly fast.
-
Same here! They must have packed up a bunch of orders right before close of business last Friday.
-
Well, at least they're not as backlogged on printing shipping labels. That's apparently as far as my SSP has progressed in the past two days, according to UPS. I suspect they packed up a bunch of stuff right before leaving for their five-day Golden Week break and marked all of it as shipped, but we probably won't see any actual movement until Thursday when they're back in the office for two days before taking off for their next five-day break.
-
NY just shipped my SSP set! What the?! They never ship things this quickly. Glad I changed my shipping method yesterday or the package would have been returned to them.
-
They were a bit more...decisive with my request. I asked if it would be possible to switch to FedEx or DHL for my SSP set and the response I got back was "we just sent an invoice for UPS Express Saver to your account." Given their customer service track record, I expected that they would come back in a few days with an estimate, like the one you received, and then I'd make a decision. I didn't anticipate that they'd cut straight to asking for payment within a few hours of me submitting the request. It was an additional $36 and at this point I'm thinking "get the damn thing on a plane out of the country," so I rolled with it and paid the invoice. I still don't expect them to actually ship it soon, because who knows if they actually have it in stock, but at least it will get here before December (theoretically).
-
Definitely good advice. Thank you!
-
Yeah, the shipping section in their order workflow for US customers is now just a single field where you can enter a comment. You don't even get an estimate for what DHL costs when you choose SAHRA as the location, where they normally calculate that on the fly because the stock is guaranteed to be on hand. If I find an item at another branch that I want, I often put a similar one in my cart from SAHRA so I can get a sense for what the shipping will cost. No luck this time. You don't find out until you actually place your order, regardless of location.
