  1. Awesome! I'll double check this weekend and post an updated pic of the sheet with the already-applied stuff highlighted. Short version: using Photoshop, Illustrator, an ALPS MD-5000P dry resin printer, and almost 20 years of experience.
  2. I use 1200ppi at a minimum for scanning sets. For printing, I use 2400ppi because that's the maximum supported by my printer. I don't bother with magnification because it doesn't really buy you anything, so just 100%. For raster images, you don't generally see a big difference between 1200 and 2400 when printed--especially for older designs. The details just aren't that crisp and the colors can vary a lot. You do see a difference for vectors. I will often use a scanned raster as a base and then redraft the designs as vectors. You get clean lines and solid colors, but it takes time. I do worry about clogging up MW with high res scans, though. The data storage will end up costing Shawn money, potentially a lot. Single print jobs are generally not cheap and the results will generally not be as good as the original unless someone redrafts the designs. You might be able to do some calibration and color matching between your scanner and an inkjet or laser printer, but it's significantly more difficult (or impossible) to do that for printers that can handle white, like the old ALPS line, which is what you usually need for decals unless you're only doing application on light-colored surfaces. OKI has picked up the white printing baton, but their line is *very* expensive. The cheapest is about $6000 and it doesn't even do a good job. The one that does costs about 5-6 times as much (or so I hear). There are a few folks out there who will do ALPS printing for you, but their reliability is questionable (based on what I've heard from other MW members). I'm retired.
  3. Yeah, I noticed that, too. I try to correct spelling issues where possible. I do like how these new sticker sheets have large versions of the small designs as previews, so you don't have to squint to make out what they say, but at that size, you'd think spelling issues would be relatively easy to catch before printing.
  4. I scanned in the sticker sheet, which is the first step for making some supplemental decals. So, what's not already on the valk? I haven't taken a close look at mine yet, thought I might crowdsource this a bit....
  5. I'm glad you mentioned this, @Lolicon. I saw that little folded paper triangle in my box and thought, "meh, just some dumb HLJ promo thing" and tossed it out. Dug it out of the trash can today. Almost missed out on 5% off my next order!
  6. I think he took a new job a while back that’s keeping him pretty busy. I’m pretty sure he’s hoping to start the business back up, but I haven’t seen any updates on that in a while.
  7. More than a few MW members have messaged me about putting a set together. Biggest constraint is my free time. I took a quick look at the sticker sheet that comes with it and it seems like many/all of the larger markings are already on the toy, so it's really about the smaller and more detailed stuff. Agreed. I'm perfectly happy with this non-PF version
  8. My wife rolls her eyes when a Macross package shows up and asks, "is this a new big piece of really expensive plastic from Japan or a new small piece to attach to a big piece you already have?" I ended up buying a set with brushes of different shapes and sizes. Great for getting into all the nooks and crannies.
  9. I bought several makeup brushes after I read that you use them. Wife opened the Amazon package. I had some explaining to do. They do work well.
  10. Mine's already in Narita, traveling via FedEx. I'm guessing it will show up on Wednesday.
  11. My "item is in stock and ready to ship" email notification from HLJ arrived early this morning.
  12. Link to my post one page back, which includes a link to my post from last month:
  13. Two collectors enter, one collector leaves. I call dibs on the chainsaw. Trying to keep them on their toes. Someone needs to start thinking outside of the box in that company. Seriously. Their box is terrible and it's sucking the joy out of collecting Macross valks.
  14. I was trying to stay optimistic with my list, but we are dealing with Bandai, so maybe it will be a combo of #4 and #5, where you have to gather all of the pieces through purchasing Gundam toys, then the grey goggle head is a TWE lottery item that they unexpectedly announce at a Tamashii Nations event--with less than 24 hours before the pre-order window opens.
  15. A non-transformable valk would be an odd move, given how much Bandai has invested in making transformable ones. What they displayed a few months ago was armor on transforming Hikaru 1J, Max 1J, and Roy 1S valks. Bandai has three options for how they could release the armor (assuming they will): Release the armor as an accessory for the VF-1J Hikaru we got two years ago Reissue the VF-1J Hikaru, then release the armor as an accessory that will work with either one Package the armor with a VF-1J Hikaru reissue (what was done for the Hi-Metal R line)
  16. Unknown. I only ordered the regular one and the date showed up in the automated Private Warehouse email I receive from HLJ every few weeks when I have stuff ready to ship or on pre-order. If you look at the actual listings on their site, it doesn't mention a specific date for either version.
  17. See this post from last month:
  18. HLJ is now saying that next Thursday (21 Jan) is the release date for the regular finish:
  19. That Hikaru 1S looks so much better now! And the aftermath is why I include extra decals with each set.
  20. Yeah, we were chatting about that a few pages back, wondering why there's a decent aftermarket supply at (for the DX line) decent prices. It could be a "perfect storm" of circumstances that includes COVID-19 financial stresses for collectors, which we might never experience again, or maybe Bandai actually made enough this time around. I don't mind paying a bit of a markup after release if it means that I don't have to deal with PO Madness, but right now we don't have enough data to say anything definitive about that.
  21. I'm right there with you, but only if it's a Hikaru 1J + GBP gift set or there's a reissue of the Hikaru 1J and then the GBP set is released separately. I don't care if the 1J is grey goggle or original. If the only Hikaru 1J we get is the one we already have, I'll pass. I'm not going to drop $500+ to get another one so I can put GBP armor on it. That would be extremely shortsighted on Bandai's part, but we've seen them make lots of questionable decisions over the years....
  22. AE has a Roy available for ¥32000, before shipping: http://www.anime-export.com/product/50591 That's way above current market price....
  23. Good point on COVID. It's made collecting more difficult for everyone. And I figured someone would quickly fill my Yamato bad-business-decisions placeholder. Their approach wasn't sustainable, but Bandai has been at the other end of the spectrum. Maybe they're a bit closer to the middle now. Or this Roy release is a freak occurrence. It's probably safer to assume each release is going to be a bloodbath and plan accordingly, but I'm trying to find some kind of silver lining in the lower price and greater availability for Roy....
