Well, I was lucky to land my job as an R&D engineer right before the banks started to collapse. Thanks to the fact that I work in R&D for the only division in the company doing what I do, my job is basically safe. As for purchases of toys, I used to buy from overseas for mostly gunpla. But as of late, due to exchange rates, Ive been doing my shopping through forums like hobbyfanatics. Usually , I can get excellent prices through forums. As for purchasing toys outright, most of the shopping is done when the stuff I want is at a discount. Right now stores like HobbyLink Japan and BigBadToyStore have pretty deep discounts for a nice selection of sci-fi stuff, including Yamato Macross toys. Since I live with my parents now, though, I have very little room to house my collection if I were to expand it, so Ive been mostly interested in smaller stuff like revoltechs or MSIA action figures.

You could do a wiki project. Have all sorts of people translate sound bites or text. Its sort of like how ReCAPTCHA works. Maybe make a Java app or widget that dishes out bits and pieces that people can translate.

Cooling? Really? At first I thought that Michaels gun opened its vanes for cooling purposes as well, but that ended up being a glorified bipod. I dont think cooling was ever taken into consideration for the gunpods. Considering that space has no gaseous medium, the cooling ability of the vulcan cannons is significantly reduced,and would require radiative cooling vanes to function half way properly in space. Barrel extensions would only be useful for increasing firing range, not for cooling , though (especially if they used rifled barrels). So, I believe its all for aesthetic appeal.

MF had great action sequences and music. The problem is with the story. For the most part, its pretty shallow. Its obvious it was made for Macross fanboys, with itty bitty details to remind people. Though some character progression was shoe-horned near the last arch of episodes, for the most part Alto's character was totally bungled. He came out the same as he went in. That is a very big thematic error on Kawamori's behalf. He could have done something interesting with his character, but he didnt.

VF-27 MaBoy. But since the VF-25 is sacrilegiously named Messiah, I guess the VF-27 would be called Anti-Christ.

Nostalgia is pretty powerful, especially for adults with unfulfilled dreams. They often feel the urge the regress to childhood where they felt they still had a wide world of paths for life. Of course, the key is to remember that there are always other paths at every stage of life. Nobody needs to live life doing something unsatisfying. But, it's the easiest and fastest way to retirement to live an unfulfilled life. So nostalgia = desire to see boxy looking VF-1 copycat F-14 fighters. I was pretty upset with the VF-25 fighter design, especially after the YF-21 and VF-22. But, it still looks pretty cool. Id like to remind you guys that the F-14 has been in retirement for about a decade now. Rant End.

I think Macross Frontier is definitely better than To-Love-Ru.

The most important thing that I want to find out (either the movie or whatever other media or sequel) is who does Klan go out with? Im betting that Klan turns lesbian.

I vaguely knew about Robotech back in the 90's. My parents (rightly or wrongly) canceled our cable package when I entered middle school, so I had limited exposure to that show. Only when I ordered DSL about 5 years ago did I really have a chance to watch Robotech. My impression of it was that it had great action, but awful awful music. I couldnt stand Minmei's singing. Then I found about Macross through IMDB, oddly enough on the RT:Shadow Chronicles page. The Japanese vocals were much better. They werent as annoying as the music from Robotech. So far Ive watched MacZero (Hated most of it, save the battle scenes),MAC+(Loved it!), Mac7(Oh man, Basara was so annoying),DYRL (disjointed story, but great action and music!) and Macross Frontier (Average pacing, great music,great action, and good story). Truthfully, I dont consider Macross the best space drama out there, that title is reserved for Re-BSG. Macross is still pretty good, especially the mecha designs and fusion of music and drama.

Well, it could be projected matter reconfigurations. Its possible to create things from the base molecular structures, like cloth. It just takes a lot of patience and attention. Maybe its not a hologram, but a wearable multi-molecular MASER projector, that projects a field of molecules that end up forming clothing. I dunno, maybe its just anime magic.

I take offense to the comment about the Max and Miriya knife fight.

The Battle Galaxy looks like a different type of ship. The head looks like a damn VF-27 head sensor. Whats up with that? Is it still a New Macross?

I think this is the most important question so far. What class ship was the Battle Galaxy? It sort of looked like a New Macross, but sort of didn't , especially the head.

I hope they get rid of most of the high school scenes. Those were just painfully boring. Except the pantsu raid scene. That scene they can expand. They have my blessing for it.
