Robotech has been royally mismanaged. There is no way to say otherwise. The same "creativity" that gave the fans the original trilogy also gave you "Robotech The Movie" , a mismatch of wonky Macross animation and....Megazone 23... Imagine what would have happened if they used Megazone 23 episode 2.... sex sure isn't what Robotech was remembered for, right?

Well, I think its been mentioned that HG has merchandise rights to only SDF Macross and DYRL Macross. All the other properties are derivatives and arent covered in the original contract. As for Yamato bringing their full line to international markets, HG has the trademark for Macross so Yamato would have to rename the entire line. They may also be restricted to only selling toys from the new shows and not from SDF Macross.Im not sure what the difference between merchandise based on designs and merchandise based on animation differs.

Even if they tried making new designs, they'll probably never match anything from the Macross series. The reason Macross aircraft look so great is because Shoji Kawamori was trained as an aerospace (aircraft?) engineer. Anything Harmony Gold would design would chronically be inferior.

Its not that they're lazy. They just dont have the skills to come up with new designs. Instead, they outsource it to some Malaysian company or whatever.
