The VF-4 is pretty cool. The arms bother me though. Not having full range of motion would be a real killer in a fight.

So really the engine still works on the basic principles of a jet engine; Suck, Squeeze, Bang, Blow. Only instead of combusting jet fuel, it reacts fusile material. OT must have some incredible high temp metals.

So I was browsing HLJ, and I found an arcadia VF-1J GBP-1. I've always wanted one, I've spent my allowance, so to speak, It's still a few months off, and I'm sure they'll be available for a good while, the other thing is it's being offered for a pretty good price, considering what I've seen arcadias go for. Would it be a good addition? Or should I find some old yamato GBP armor for my VF-1S?

IN regards to the complexity issue, We have science fiction universes that have shown Mecha as reliable military machines (I'm referring to battletech). In that case, there were hundreds of years to get to that point, and a few hundreds more to solve the reliability problems. In Macross we saw our technology get artificially accelerated to that point (the arrival and subsequent reverse engineering of the ASS-1). As for the fuel, we have started to reach sustained fusion, in deuterium/tritium reactions. I don't know how much gamma is produced in that reaction, but there is alpha and beta particle radiation, which could be captured and recycled through so as to cut down on reaction mass loss. That's how we envision the reactor working scientifically( I mean an actual Fusion Reactor, not the TN turbines). If the TN turbines are indeed just magnetically shielded jet engines that react fusile material. Given the state of jet turbines these days, I'd expect that the engine would reminiscent of a low bypass turbofan, if intake air is used to cool the reaction.

You know I hadn't really considered that capital ships might be included in this thread... Bravo.

That's a fair point. Still, I think that a Single engine VF, would be cost effective and useful for a small colony world that doesn't really need to worry about patrolling in space so much. I do agree that for a main line fighter it's necessary, due to the consideration of being in deep space. But in atmo, or intra system patrols, maybe not as necessary. It'd be a little harder to do than twin engine especially if it were to become a toy. Maybe I'll try my hand at designing one as a homebrew, and present it to the community. Nothing says that we can't show some creative initiative. The comments about the world building are really cool. It is a shame that the socioeconomic and political facets of life haven't seen a lot of detailing in universe. Frontier did a little bit within the frontier fleet, but that really only went as far as fairly shallow subplots. Maybe in the next macross production we could see more of the interaction between the Military-Industrial complex and government, in the backdrop of interspecies and interstellar conflict, and told from the perspectives of the central characters. Would be kinda cool to see a bit more cerebral intrigue from Macross.

Cool, good to know. My luck, if they do come off, I'll find them in the middle of the night, buried in my foot.. Just like my old Dark Eldar minis...

I'm pretty happy with it. I've got more on the way, I'll post pics as I get them. A couple are coming in from Japan so I'll have a bit of a wait for those. I gotta say, I didn't like the SV-21 at first, but recently the design has grown on me. I'm gonna have a tough time finding space for all of them now. Yeah it is huge, It's probably bigger than the YF-19, which is next up for delivery. The Wings on mine don;t want to stay tabbed in but it's fine.

Just added this : Here he is with his nemesis: I've transformed it once so far, and I gotta say he's a bit floppy and some of the joints are a bit loose. Given the age of the toy, I have to assume that it's used. Although, the bag with the instructions and whatnot, as well as the trays were taped, so it might be new. Either way I'm happy to have it in my collection.

The gaps are kinda cool in that they could be anything. Honestly I'm a bit surprised that we haven't seen any single engine VF-designs. It could be done easily enough, probably easier to design a single engine VF than it was to design the alternate modes for the VF-4. We have seen twin (obvious) engine VFs, and quad engine VFs, but no single or tri-engine (the VF-0/ghost combo doesn't count...) VF's. I wonder why? Going back to an earlier comment: So are the engines producing a series of thermonuclear explosions in a reaction chamber (ignition chamber/burner can)? I was under the impression that the intakes collected hydrogen (stellar and atmospheric, like a magnetic bassard ramscoop), to use in the reaction turbines. They would still need onboard fuel, but the collected hydrogen would be used to supplement the onboard supply. That's how I imagines it worked anyway...

So it was there waiting for me, in a shipping box the size of texas. The only issues I've run into so far, are the arms don't really seem to lock in place in battroid mode, and I can't get the Under wing stores to attach. Seems like the peg is a bit too big, but I didn't really sit there and give it a real hard go.

You also should consider with those vacant number that those may have been used on early prototypes that lost their respective competitions. Maybe there were 3 submissions for what would have been the VF-1, and those were arbitrarily given the designations YF-1, 2, 3, and prototype YF-1 won the competition. (The VF-0 doesn't count, since I consider it to be a technology demonstrator. Though it is the actual and spiritual predecessor). Looking to real life examples, we go from f-16 to f-18. There was a YF-17, that was the F-16 competitor. The design was changed enough to become different and was adopted as the F-18 for the Navy's needs. I'm also assuming that Kawamori is using the Unified naming scheme that was adopted in the late 1950's (previously the Navy and Air Force had different naming conventions for fighter designations). You wouldn't reuse a number that had been assigned to a prototype. We see this with the YF-21 and VF-22. The VF-22 was changed enough from the prototype to be a different aircraft, and since it was different they had to use a new number. These days we try to avoid using the same numbers for things that are different. Even when the Type classification is different.

Hey, just like every other russian jet... Supposedly mine is out for delivery as we speak. Should have it when I get home.

Kurisama, I just looked at your storefront. Say a ton of stuff I want. The arm weapon systems from M+, the HMM's. I would like replacement wings for the VF-11 and YF-19 with hardpoints. And of course Armor protect systems for the VF-0 and VF-11. Excellent work offering things that we've not been able to get. Well done sir.

I'd want a 0S with the ghost, in the full angel configuration. I wish I'd gotten that bundle to begin with.

Can't wait to get my new stuff... Yamato YF-19, Yamato SV-51, Yamato Tomahawk Destroid, Bandai VF-171EX...

My collection is nothing to sneeze at so far.my 1/60's v1 VF-0A, v2 VF-1S (focker w/strike/super parts), v1 VF25, v1VF-1A TRU, VF-11C. I have some 1/100's as well, VF-19S hi metal, and a couple of toynamis, VF1-A max DYRL, VF-1S focker with super/strike parts. Anyway, the arcadias were a bit too pricey, and not readily available...

Yeah it is similar. But that thread doesn't include no variable mecha.

Speaking of Armored VF-11's, has anyone made an armor kit for the Yamato 1/60 VF-11? Also, getting back into this hobby, I think I may have found my true dream job. I'm studying to be a mechanical engineer, and I have a fetish for designing things. Maybe I should sit down and sketch out some protector armor for the VF-11 and VF-0 toys. As soon as I get the new additions I purchased I'll upload some photos of my collection, Now that I have a place to put them.

Ah. But with more mass the VF-14 can't reach escape velocity can it? The VF-17 was the first to do so right?

I kinda got at this in my AVF Upgrade thread, and it's probably been on here at least a thousand times. But what's your favorite Macross Mecha of all time? I'll kick it off, I love the YF-19/VF-19A. It's got a dangerous sensuality to it. It's what my dad would call a sexy airplane (he's an old F106 driver). I like the forward swept wings, and the way it becomes an awesome robot. I asked mecha, so for you destroid lovers, you're welcome too. The destroids are interesting, being a battletech guy, I have a soft spot for them. I'd actually see a use for destroids, especially when given the existence of Macronized Zentradi elsewhere in the Macross universe. Variable fighters are expensive and there are only so many of them. I think destroids are highly underrated. What about y'all?

I'd love to have an arcadia, but the price is just so high. I mean I've only found them for shy of a grand. I settled for the Yammie version, which isn't terrible, even if it's not the best YF-19 out there right now. Like I said in my advice thread, I've had worse valks. But a bandai and/or and arcadia would be awesome. Especially with those super packs.
