  1. Thanks, still had a lot of the legalese that I didn't understand, but a fourth read through may have cleared up some confusion. HG is a real pain in the nuts.
  2. Dude, we got a Macross Canyon!!! Right on! Who cares what kind of feature it is, it's international recognition! All hail the Macross Canyon!
  3. Yeah, leave it to the Russians, they can always claim they did it first, but we get to claim we did it right. Though you have to admit, that the thought of the pilot having some sort of helmet display interaction with the machine was always kind of implied. Pilots have been wanting that for a very long time, but it was always just a pipe dream until the MiG-29 did it, then until the JHMCS showed up on F-16 and F-15 testbeds (I think some US F-15's and 16's have been retrofitted for this, but that might not be accurate). I do know it's been fully implemented on the F-22 and F-35 (for what that's worth).
  4. A fact, that despite it's truth value, is much disputed. While compared to other Macross Characters, I thought Basara was annoying, and that the real stars of M7 were Mylene and Gamlin... And regardless of all the things M7 did right (which In my opinion is more than it did wrong), M7 is still much maligned as being awful. I of course disagree. I actually like the music in M7 more than the music in SDFM, more because of the fact it's musically more interesting to me (regardless of lyrical content, I really like the rock band instrument arrangement, drums, bass, and guitar, though I'd have preferred Ray as rhythm guitar instead of keytar, but that was the group dynamic so I'll not complain). I think it's important to judge based on the individual series contribution to the franchise, rather than the small niggling details. For instance there are things I didn't care for in MF, like the Mecha. I really liked the VF-171 over the VF-25 & VF-27, just because it was a cleaner transformation that I had come to expect from Macross. The VF-25/27 left bits that seemed, "untransformed" to me. Also the main adversary being space bugs was kind of offputting, but then it expanded into something more sinister and human, with the Vajra just kind of becoming a tool for the real villains, so it evened out for me. As for the Mecha, I came to like the VF-25, though I still prefer the VF-171. I just hope we can see a bit more of a return to the cleaner transformations of the past, in the new series. I just want some VF's that look good as fighters and as robots, the VF-25's wing kibble just looks too bulky for a robot that lean looking (though the super parts made it a bit less noticeable). I also would like to see something different, and I know I've said it before, but a single engine cannon fodder VF would be really cool.
  5. Maybe they wanted to leave those questions, because they didn't have the answers, and wanted an avenue to expand the franchise? Who knows, but when it comes to Macross, I just sit back and enjoy the ride, asking these kinds of questions lead to the kinds of unsatisfactory answers that Lucas gave, or that you get in Warhammer 40k, or really in any other Sci-Fi universe (people have been making tachyon jokes since it was used as the de facto explanation for everything in Star Trek...).
  6. Just curious, but what specifically, it's not going to stop me from buying one, but I'd just like to know.
  7. You actually don't need a special printer for decals. You can use a laser or inkjet printer with some of the new decal papers that are available. Here's a video that might help: It's specifically talking about wargaming, but the process will work for any plastic model or toy, that you're wanting to use waterslide transfer decals on.
  8. As I have a VF-25, I'll be getting the VF-19 advance. It's close enough to the YF-19 (I can imagine it being a custom painted VF-19A) that it as much as doesn't matter, and while yes it's more expensive, you're getting more than just the fighter, so it balances out. The VF-19 Advance is really the only toy I'm thinking about right now, because of my love affair with the 19 series. After that, it's super parts for my VF-171EX (if I can still find them).
  9. But you see the CGI'ed finished product for about 3 seconds or so when they "Premier" the movie at the end of the episode... So, yeah it's a stretch, but it did technically appear in frontier media...(just sayin...) Also, there is a VF-1 on static display at the Academy, so another technicality... And they could do an SDF-4 Global capital ship toy, because that appears. I'd honestly like to see some more enemy mecha (like Q-Rheas from those couple of episodes). Maybe a YF-19/VF-19 Advance in the Hi-Metal R line, with attachable gun pod and retractable landing gear (or attachable is fine too, just not that display stand nonsense like on the VF-19S).
  10. That's true, the X-29 was the direct inspiration. It's just the Berkut has more in common, aesthetically, with the YF-19, in the overall shape, twin engines, the forward swept wing, the canards, and the size (being the VF-19 was a truly big bird, compared to the earlier generation fighters like the VF-1, VF-5000, and VF-11). Yeah, FSW weren't really viable, until the X-29, as material technology hadn't quite caught up until then. As for the F-35, yes it is really cool. I don't quite know how the Helmet display works, but it is pretty cool that a pilot can now track an enemy wherever he goes. Mr. Kawamori is indeed a forward thinking genius, who'd have thought that we'd be seeing things today that he'd thought up in science fiction... (C'mon Star Trek, get your act together, I want my transporter already, geez...)
  11. I would be really interested to see what you come up with. I'm no legal expert, so I can't and won't speak on that subject. Do whatever you have to, in order to get it done. Honestly I have to say, I hate Harmony Gold. I have nothing against a company trying to make money, but I hate litigiousness, and if that's what your business model is built around, instead of creation and innovation, you deserve to fail. But that's not the case for you, based on what you have posted, I say go for it! *I still don't understand, is Harmony Gold in control of all distribution rights for Macross here in the states, and is choosing not to release anything but the original SDFM under their Robotech IP name? If that's the case, how did we get dubs of SDFM and M+? I've tried reading the whole legal thing, and found my self hopelessly lost. So if someone who is very familiar could give me a cliffnotes or TL;DR (or legalese for dummies...) rundown, I'd much appreciate it (PM me if you feel that this derails the thread, as that's the last thing I want to do...).
  12. I agree with this list. Macross has had a lot of strong characters though, so, while Hikaru started off a bit whiny, he got better. That's one of the best things about Macross is the characters really grow. And especially when you compare cross franchise, Macross characters are a hell of a lot better than some of the other Mecha franchises.
  13. However it got named, it's awesome that it happened. Now people who are interested in Science fiction, will see the name attached to something in Science, and then boom, more discoveries of Macross! Everyone wins!
  14. Dad has told me about all of the shenanigans they'd get invited to participate in, like jammer races for instance... All because they took the time to get to know people. He retired in '90 just before Desert Storm, And through me he has seen some of the changes the USAF has made, and boy, is he mad about it (I am too, my tour of Duty was 2009-2014). Anyway technical references... Anyone noticed how the Su-47 Berkut looks very similar to the YF-19? The Berkut is too new to have inspired the YF-19 but hey, Kawamori Is pretty forward thinking guy right? (Maybe I have mentioned this before but I can't remember)
  15. If you'll remember back to the flashback episode of SDFM, Claudia states that, while they knew each other, they didn't become a couple until Roy was stationed at South Ataria Island, while working on the VF-X-1 project. So that leaves plenty of room in the story line for other things to happen.
  16. I'll admit Zero was a bit... weird. It's a shame that they put Roy Focker in the middle of that, it was a soup sandwich without the bread (read: hot mess). Still, I like everything Macross, and I think it's definitely worth every penny and minute I've spent on it.
  17. That would be very nice. As floppy as it is, I still like my SV-51. I'd love to have another VF-0A, as my old Yammie has all but self destructed. The arms exploded, the swing bar clamp has broken, and there are some other issues, like fact that the joints are loose and floppy and it won't stand up anymore. Still I like the design of the VF-0, and would love to see more from that OVA. Destroids would be great.
  18. Some great pics here. I need to do more...
  19. Fortunately, the VF-0 did make an appearance in Frontier, so they technically could, as for the VF-4 and YF-21, those would need to make appearances in the Frontier series ( a new frontier movie, or frontier related video game, which it may have already, I haven't played M30, and don't have a PS3). So as long as it has appeared in frontier associated material, they can stretch legality, to do it. I would also like to see this happen, as Bandai is proving to be the more cost efficient option. Beside I love their new frontier toys. The VF-27 is on my wish list, as is the Ozma Armored valk.
  20. Does there have to be a reason? The VF-19 is just cool, and especially the YF style ones. I'm just glad that Bandai made it, as I intend to get one as soon as I get paid (If they can still be had by then). The Yamato VF-19F and the Yamato YF-19 I have, just aren't scratching the itch... Not to mention that my recent experience with Bandai's Frontier toys has been very positive.
  21. Ok, I knew about the Gate, Dad (a career fighter pilot of 28 years) has told me about that before. I just never asked about the physics of the afterburner (dad was one of those old school pilots that liked to know as much about his bird as he could). Thanks for the info!
  22. Yeah, I noticed that there was some familiar music while I was listening to the frontier OST. Ah, well, can't say I blame them, those are pretty good scores...
  23. Someday, I might get brave and do some weathering on of my toys...
