  1. They could have done the swivel at the bicep not that I look at it, and think about it. I don't know why they chose to do it the way they did. Even with the odd placement of that swivel I find the toy more than adequate for my wants and desires. Unless there was some kind of problem with putting the swivel in the bicep that we don't know about, I mean I took a closer look at the shoulder and bicep area, and it just looks like there's a lot going on there, maybe they didn't wan't to introduce a failure point into that area. Who knows?
  2. I see your point. Then I suppose it's a function of the arm transformation mechanism. I'm guessing there really wasn't a way to get a true bicep swivel and do the transformation the way they wanted it? I'll have to think on that.
  3. I agree. I'm really liking it.
  4. Take off was what we were worried about too. In flight it's still a threat to helos, but the best chance is to hit whe the bird is most vulnerable. At t/o they're chock full of fuel and troops, and you blow that up, you get a bunch of Americans in one go, plus secondary explosions. That was my reasoning when I presented it to the guys in the S2 shop.
  5. Ok, you're right the universe is saved, but it's he'd realized what was going on around him, and that he was getting in the way, maybe a lot less people might have had to suffer. I don't know, Maybe it's just my ingrained way of thinking, that clashes with Basara's characterization, and I just can't wrap my head around it. Or maybe it's that he just seems like a McGuffin, and not really a participant in the plot. I'm having a very hard time describing why I can't stand him. Actions have consequences, sure ultimately the galaxy was saved, but there was probably an easier way, that didn't involve as many people getting hurt. Over all I liked M7, but there are things that bug me about it, and I can't really put my finger on them, except Basra (even then I can't even tell you why I hate him, only that I do) and the amount of filler (sure it's not DBZ levels of filler, but still). I agree about Kaifun, as that's been my experience with that type of people.
  6. I prefer the bandai. It's got maddening (in a good way) amounts of articulation, the transformation is different, and I actually like how involved it is. It has huge amounts of die cast, and it does some really cool things to fill in the gaps left by transformation. Add to that the level of detail that is present on this toy and it's a knockout. It looks great in all three modes, but Fighter and Battroid are the two best, since the 19's gerwalk has always been a bit wonky. Though it does lock in nice and tight like the Yamato VF-19's and the Arcadia YF-19, and actually manages some really ridiculous articulation. Can your arcadia do this: ? I'm kind of biased though, as I only have the bandai (because the arcadia is stupid expensive). I do however have a Yamato VF-19F to compare to, which is very similar to the arcadia design in many ways. The fact that the bandai manages all of this with a waist swivel in a perfect transformation toy (in the truest sense, needing no gap filling parts, save the one for gerwalk mode, that I'm sure everyone forgets). I can't sing it's praises enough. I'm down for redecos, and remolds, as this toy is just so much damn fun. Finally I have a fun YF-19 style toy. I love my Yamato YF-19, it's a nice display, but it's just not fun. I must say, I wish bandai had done the gun pod a bit differently, like making the handle jointed instead of the whole thing, so the whole gun pod stayed straight, still that's a minor complaint. Last, we have the accessories. The display stand is meh, bit forgivable, because the toy came with it's own display stand which very thoughtful (thank you bandai!) meaning I don't have to go out and buy a stand. The Super parts look great, and even though the leg packs cause some gap in the wing glove I can forgive that, because the Super Parts were included in the set, and I can chose to use them or not (whereas if I tracked down a set of Alto Super Parts for my VF-25F, I'd feel obligated to display them to justify the price I paid). Then there are the fixed pose hands which are nice for posing, but the articulated hands are doing a perfectly good job right now. The pin point barrier punch effect parts... oh my what a wonderful bonus. I have had so much fun with this, it's obscene. I'd have bought this toy even if it hadn't come with the stand, the super parts, the PPB punch effect, and the fixed pose hands. The fact that I got all of this just made the whole thing worth it. I have transformed this toy about a half a dozen times now, and it's still nice and tight. Another benefit the bandai has over the arcadia, it's not as terrifying to transform, it'll tell you when you're doing something wrong, and as long as you don't force anything, I don't see any real issues with durability. Anyway that's my take.
  7. I can get the arms across the chest both above and below the uniboob, if that's what you meant. As for the swivel,if that's what you were inquiring about, if the arms are perpendicular to the ground, the swivel is below the level of the uniboob, just above the elbow joint at the forearm. I hope those answer the questions.
  8. I remember when I was at JRTC a few years ago, MANPADS were considered a huge threat, mostly to the Chinooks and Blackhawks. Now JRTC is a practice for war, so it's all about preparing deploying units for the sandbox, based on what deployed units are experiencing currently, and what the threats are predicted to be. We spent a significant amount of time preparing for that threat, in fact I kind of became the guy for getting that kind of information because I had a live internet connection on my computer (everyone else was using canned data, on a closed local area network connection), for doing my job. Now the question is can an SA-7 or SA-14 bring down an A-10, maybe, if the sun and moon align with jupiter on a blue moon at midnight on Tuesday. Fixed wing aircraft are generally not the typical targets for MANPADS, helicopters and other fragile, slow moving aircraft are. Besides, taliban hears that A-10 gun, and they scatter like roaches in the light. Because they know that the A-10 can stick around, and brought enough hurt to the party, that they'd be better off running and hiding to fight another day. Not to mention that gun run they heard, probably just killed a bunch of their tali-buddies.
  9. Having seen both the subbed and dubbed versions of attack on titan, I have to say it's not a bad dub. Not much is lost between the two if anything. It seemed like they just took the subs, streamlined the translation a bit, and used that for the script. The actors nailed the characters, and no body came across as weak that wasn't supposed to be. I was not aware of this, but that kinda makes sense given how stylistically similar the baddies are, and how humanity is still in conflict with itself. I didn't read that whole interview, but I read enough of it t kind of get the gist. Interesting read. As for Muv-Luv, the series, is pretty good so far. I do kind of like the gratuitous boobage going on, and the giant robot mecha. I mean it's not missing much in terms of stuff I like.
  10. I'm looking at my advance right now, and the swivel is just below the first joint of the elbow, down from the shoulder. So I guess it's not a bicep swivel per se, but it's still incredibly poseable... I've still managed to get some cross the chest poses on the arms. So I'm having a hard time understanding your complaint. Maybe yours is just really stiff?
  11. Not going to lie, all three are pretty cool and capable aircraft. I like the Typhoon based on looks personally. I do know that it's all going to depend on what the pilot can do with the airframe to make the biggest difference.
  12. I really had no expectations going in, and in continuing. Episodes 1 and 2, just came out of the Attack on Titan left field. All of a sudden, all of the characters the show had developed so far were dead save one, and in the most gruesome ways I can imagine. It seemed to so show you what was really causing the looming dread that the characters seem to feel in the subsequent episodes. I'm still not through it yet, but the whole concept of our modern jet fighters as robots instead is intriguing. And then there's the fan service... That gruesome couple of episodes just sticks with you, and then there's Yui, having PTSD flashbacks, showing it to you again. So far it's like if Macross Plus and Attack on Titan had a baby...
  13. I don't hate the Kai, so much as I dislike Basara. I think Seto put it beautifully, He's the worst parts of Kaifun and Minmay, his obnoxious pacifism, and her grating selfishness, and their combined lack of thought towards consequences. Basara gets away with murder (not literally, but you get my meaning). Pacifism is a great ideal, but it's sullied when you go and antagonize people. Now, Kaifun did that, and to my recollection Basara did not. Basara's complete disconnect from the consequences of his actions bothers me. The Bonkers mech in it's gaudy red and yellow scheme is fine, it was the 90's and stuff was weird everywhere. As for BattleTech, reading the novels, the Empire building and political intrigue is kind of a backdrop, it really tends to focus on the guys and girls that have to implement their lord's machinations. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the political intrigue as much as the next guy, but if that's all there was to the story it would be boring, because there's no humanity to it, you don't see the real consequences of those Machiavellian machinations. When the political intrigue cuts to the action and you see the guy on the ground, who's lord just left him high and dry with empty promises of reinforcements, it feels a bit more real. I like all that high level stuff when it drives the action, not the sole focus, not that I'm saying Dune and Game of Thrones are that way. I might check out Legend of the Galactic Heroes, just to see what it's all about. On a Macross related note, the mecha fights, and love triangles, and music are all part of it. I always describe Macross as a Love story set against the backdrop of a war story. Both are aspects of the story that are fundamental, and ultimately very human stories. As terrible as war is, it's the crucible in which we test ourselves. War brings out the best, and worst, in humanity, as does love. So, ultimately it boils down to the why in both cases. Macross explores both of those themes, and usually does a pretty good job of it. Music has always been a means of bearing your soul, to communicate your feelings, just like poetry. That that concept is central to Macross, makes it a pretty powerful delivery of the rest of the elements of the shows. That's kind of a simplistic take on it, but there it is.
  14. I just started Muv-Luv, and it's kinda got me hooked after one episode.
  15. I do want another, but I'll be satisfied with my one for now, I'll wait for a repaint to get a duplicate... PLEASE DO A LOW VIS!
  16. I had thought the main grey color was too light, I still think it should be a hair darker, as you can barely see the white stripes. That could be lighting though. The fins look a bit too blue to me, as the screen caps all show a dark grey, it's got a hint of blue to it but not much.
  17. Well, Sweden hasn't been invaded in a while so... I kid. I'm sure that it's proven itself in international exercises. I guess we'll never really know, because Sweden might have replaced it entirely by the time the actually need to fight a war.
  18. Well, there's still the super parts...
  19. Renegadeleader1, thank you. You're probably right about that TL;DR comment. And yes he did say some good things, problem is it was buried under so much drivel and miscelleneus wank, that it was difficult to find. Lets also not forget the gratuitous straw man arguments. Still we should just put this one to bed and move on.
  20. I plan on getting Ozma at some point, but the VF-27 has just got me, by the balls, since I already have a VF-25 at the moment.
  21. If I can ever scrape together enough money I'm going to raid their stock for the things I want all in one go, provided it's still in stock when I try...
  22. First off, frakk you, don't be a conceited dick. Second, I'm sorry, but I'm not interested in hearing you profess to be an expert. I'm not interested in listening to you tell me how technology is the be all end all solution. I'm not interested in hearing all of your platitudes regarding current military thinking, because quite frankly the Military has been hamstrung by the civilian leadership and it's own unwillingness to learn from history. I'd much rather this thread move past our shouting match about who's right, as I've ceased to care. I'm not going to be able to make you understand my viewpoint, and that's fine you have your opinion, and I have mine. You seem to be missing the overarching problem, I'm advocating a complete switch in thinking, because what we're doing isn't working. You are advocating cost efficient technological solutions that are sound, in theory, but are constrained by the idea that war can be something other than brutal, dirty, bloody, wasteful, and horrifying. I'm advocating an approach that is total war, not the limited war that your solutions are based upon. I'm not an expert, on anything. I know a little bit about a lot of things, and it's enough to get me by. I appreciate your input, but it is time for this thread to move on.
  23. True, but Alto is the same way...
  24. It does have a Bicep swivel how else would I have been able to do this: ?
