  1. I'd think that the Fleet's militia would have some destroids to fight off enemies, like when the Varauta invaded city 7, or when the Vajra got inside Frontier Island 1. I get that mobility is important but so is establishing a sufficient base of fire. There's a reason why infantry teams are built around the machine gun. You've got to have something that can quickly establish fire dominance over the enemy, unless that's what the Armor Packs are supposed to do. Yeah, if engine heat is used to assist in expanding the hydrogen slush as I suggested a while back, it's possible that the engine could produce enough heat to cause explosive expansion in such a chamber, or it could be a containment breach, either option resulting in secondaries as the fuel tanks rupture and explode. I mean, we liked to use API ammo in the M2 machine guns in fighters during WW2, so that a fuel tank hit would cause secondaries. There are tandem cockpit variants of the VF-19, and Master File also has a transport version of the VF-19 with no battroid mode that seats like six people. It should also be possible to fit a jump seat to the VF-19 1st mass production type. I can't read Japanese, but the pictures in the Master file book seem to indicate that the Canopy was changed to a more traditional rear hinged configuration with the A model onward, meaning that getting a person into that area would be exceedingly difficult. I would also think that getting them in in a hurry as with a hostage rescue would be difficult. I'd think you'd more likely see the transformation limited version being brought in under A/B/C/D model air cover. Or B/D models would be used for that. The YF-30's cockpit is pretty much identical to that of the other 5th Generation VFs, so it's a pretty safe bet that it has the same covered jump seat arrangement that the VF-25 had. Either it was intended to have the second seat, and we just never saw it used, or more likely, since I believe the YF-30 was really done as a technology demonstrator it was never built with the second seat.
  2. Was it like a one act play or something?
  3. Yeah, that tends to happen when there's an inside joke that someone doesn't get. Like I said, I'm willing to just move on.
  4. Destroids are really cool though. Sure they don't transform, but why does a mobile gun platform/walking tank need to? What the source for this? Anything that can readily be found in English? The engine issues are most likely to be resulting from a loss of containment, that's more likely the cause.
  5. Look, I'm not going to fight about it. The way you worded it, and then drew attention to the fact that no one knew or seemed to care came off as a bit asinine, which is actually not unusual for some of your responses. I'm willing to put it behind, I of course want to hear about everyone's favorite characters even if I don't know them. For the future if you know something's obscure, maybe we could get a frame of reference, or a source. I apologize for being a dick, but you've pulled alpha nerd shenanigans before, and it's irksome. But lets not dwell, please continue with the discussion.
  6. Only Gamlin could be badass enough to kick a valkyrie...
  7. I apologize, but it was kind of a dick move to name a character that no one but you seems to have heard of, in the first place. I'll ask again only nicer this time. Would you please tell us who this character is? I really am curious, as I've never heard of this character.
  8. That would actually be pretty nice, since Bandai's offerings have been more affordable than Arcadia's...
  9. There's No3ljm's Ube/Avocado ice cream valk...
  10. Ok, oh wise sage of all that is Macross nerd-dom,who is this El Nino Gumpy?
  11. That works I suppose. I mean, yeah, sure I wanted to slap Alto sometimes, but then I want to slap my favorite person in the world (me) sometimes.
  12. Ok, I couldn't remember if we'd touched on it or not. I would tend to think that exploding would generally make for a poor design...
  13. Yeah. All the branches PT Uniforms have reflective bits on them, except the marines, who PT in their underwear (or what amounts to it). Even then that's kind of hard to miss, so... As for the bad decisions made by maintainers, yeah, good lessons on what no to do. Oh, and then there's the in depth weekend safety briefs, that can all be summed up as, "If you have to ask if something's dumb, it probably is," and "Don't do dumb crap!"
  14. In a way you're right, I kinda wanted a bit more on why y'all like the characters you do, but It doesn't bother me how much love Basara is getting. I just finished my watch through of M7. I don't know if I ever really hated Basara, just found him annoying and irritating. I mean he was right that music is a powerful thing, and that by bearing your soul and being true to yourself is important. His character was just so disinterested in everything that wasn't his music, and there was a glimmer of hope for some development when he showed some compassion towards another character, only to be crushed by being dismissive. I think there was a lot to the character that didn't get conveyed well during the series, I need to go back and watch the movie, and the OVA's to see if he's the same way there too. I stick with Alto as my favorite though, with Max Jenius and Roy Focker close seconds. Fixed it. I think spell check got him...
  15. The QR codes make it very easy to do inventory, thus reducing the risk of Airman/Private Snuffy, misreading a serial number or skipping a rifle, or missing tools or what have you, and forcing the entire unit to stay until said item is found. The inventory system will spit out that you missed something and because everything has a place, it will tell you exactly where it's supposed to be, if you missed it, you go back and check where it's supposed to be, if it's there, then you goofed, you scan it inventory done no big deal. If it's missing, it's not your fault, and you go find out who had it last and rip them a new a-hole. As for over the top safety procedures, it's true. The USAF has become so risk averse it's not even funny. Do I wear nitrile gloves when I clean my own firearms, or work on my breaks? No, should I, probably, because chemical burns suck. Mitigating risk is one thing, but use some common sense. Some things are just retarted, like wearing your stupid glow belt everywhere. It got that bad at barksdale, that it became a required uniform item, from 6PM to 6AM if you were in uniform you had to wear a reflective belt. Why you ask? Because one airman almost got run down by a dependant that was talking on their cell phone. The army is even worse about the stupid glow belts. The PT uniform is reflective, and they still have to wear the glow belts. They have to put them on their rucks, so cars don't hit them, as if you could miss the 90+ people all doing the same god damned thing. Also, why are you driving on a closed PT route jackass, shouldn't you be at PT? So there's safety conscious, and then there's safety retarded.
  16. So, while browsing through my master file book, I ran into some Schematics of the VF-9, which got me wondering if the VF-9 could be made into a poor man's VF-19?
  17. We used QR codes on our weapons in the arms room. Made doing opening and closing inventory easy. One instance where technology actually makes life easier.
  18. She said she blamed him, in order to get her way, when she took the VF-17S. No, I heard Chris Patton and Luci Christian (in an odd parody of Full Metal Panic!), when I read it. Cuz you know, ADV SDFM dub...
  19. I cannot do that yet. I have other things that must be purchased, like textbooks, and food, and gasoline to get to work. But as soon as I have some spare cash, I shall!
  20. I knew a couple, as I worked with pilots, my Aviation mechanic friends were skeptical, and my infantry friends flat refused to believe. That's quite a list, that I never knew existed. And that's just the notables. I'm not able to read my master file book yet, but I'm sure I'll find these things out when I can.
  21. Ahh yes, the fabled female valk pilot, like the majestic Chief Warrant Officer 5, or the Leprechaun, or the Unicorn, rumored to exist, but rarely seen. Why haven't we seen more female valk pilots in macross? Isn't this supposed to be a more progressive society? Variable Fighter Squadrons still look like sausage fests to me...
  22. Ok, I read the article. I'm not impressed with his defense. Lets put it this way, I saw the show as an adult. The content was exceptional, as older viewers and younger viewers alike could get something out of the show. Parents could watch it with their kids and not feel burdened by it. However, M. Night's film, was abysmal. The Visually impressive bending techniques were toned down and horribly overdrawn. The names were mispronounced, the visual look of the ethnicity of the different characters (I get that you have to make adjustments to fit the talent, but that's a weak defense given the general lack in the movie) was messed up. The entire fire nation was casted from bollywood, and was generally unintimidating. M. Night took liberties with some things he didn't need to, and cut a lot of stuff out that was kind of important. Also, tons of expositional monologuing. The acting was flat and underwhelming. I could go on, but here just watch this instead: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nSu0HeRnG18 I'm saddened that M. Night is going ahead with a follow up. Based on his past movies, I'm not expecting much. The Sixth Sense was pretty good, Unbreakable wasn't bad. Overall though his movies have been rather forgettable. Except TLA, which was a horrid stinking pile of rhino crap. I've seen the Legend of Korra all the way through, and I have to say I really enjoyed the entire Avatar franchise. I really wish that M Night would just leave it be. His first film was a flop, because it was horribly cast, and because he tried to aim it at an audience, that the source material was already aimed at. Sure the finer points of eastern philosophy are going to go right over the heads of most 9-14 year olds, then again it goes over the heads of many 40 year olds, so it's really just intellectual window dressing. And I'm going to harp on those visual effects, the bending scenes were tedious, and the fights were horribly paced compared to the show. I will likely not see this new movie, and if I do, I will not shell out any of my hard earned money to see it, hello DVD rip. I had refused to acknowledge the TLA film's existence, after seeing it, I literally forgot to delete it from my hard drive, so as to avoid thinking about it.
  23. I was lucky enough to find a pretty good sub, so I never had that. I still don't care for Basara, because of his attitude, but I can at least appreciate the rest of the show without getting hung up on hating Basara. I too favor the idea of Mylene and Gamlin having a happy ending, and I do feel sorry for him a bit.
  24. Umm... Ube flavored ice cream exists, and people put avocados in ice cream, so to say that avocado ice cream exists wouldn't be a stretch. Both together, I don't know. I have no idea how I feel about Ube (I've never tasted purple yams and I'm not sure I'm keen on eating things that are naturally purple). I like guacamole, and avocado in my sushi, but I'm not sold on avocado ice cream. Kinda like candied bacon ice cream, I like ice cream and I like candied bacon, but not both at the same time...
