Not as far as I know... She is as big a nerd as me. She has a jedi costume and lightsaber, and she plays all manner of games video and tabletop. We're watching Attack on Titan right now, and I plan on introducing her to Macross after we tackle Stargate SG1.

I knew the Germans called it Uni, but I didn't know anyone else did. That's a really cool field of study. With this hobby you have going, I'm sure you'll do well.

My girlfriend had a similar reaction. She loves em, thinks they're one of the coolest things in the world. I think I'll keep her.

Bandai vf-25 renewal toy dont have hardpoints for wing mounted missile
Valkyrie Driver replied to bongcp45's topic in Toys
I think we'll see hardpoints on all future Bandai DX toys, since the VF-171 has themm, the YF-30 has them, and the VF-19Adv has them. -
Fair point. However it is all relevant and pertinent information. They did that, it was the VF-25 Armored...

Well, I must say I am again surprised. I did not expect to see non Macross related designs mentioned, but I will not complain.

Aircraft Super Thread Mk.VII
Valkyrie Driver replied to David Hingtgen's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I wasn't doubting you, but there were people in Bossier City, that didn't even know what size planes flew out of Barksdale. It takes 3 states to turn a B-52, so most of the city was under the traffic pattern, plus Shreveport. I'm just saying maybe not everyone gets that realization. I spoke to people that didn't even know there was an Air Force Base in Bossier City. Mind you, that's Bossier City, Louisiana... -
Absolutely! I bought the Tomahawk toy Just because of the Connection to Battletech. Warhammer is one of my Favorite Battlemechs ever.

Who's your favorite Macross Character?
Valkyrie Driver replied to Valkyrie Driver's topic in Movies and TV Series
No, I just preferred the non-alto-fangirl Sheryl from the series. Don't get me wrong I found the movies entertaining, and the second one is great (10 second Isamu cameo makes it automatically good). The story the movies showed was interesting, I just like the series better. -
Why, so we can have a crap successor to the amazing Yamato Version? I'd rather some upstart company do it, or hell even Banpresto (I have had one of their Valk toys and it was bad, but still better than the Toynami).

Aircraft Super Thread Mk.VII
Valkyrie Driver replied to David Hingtgen's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Ft Worth is a Huge town. We used to get F-15E's come into Barksdale during Green Flag exercises (It's like Red Flag, only for ground attack aircraft). You'd get several minimum interval take offs of like 4-6 two ship flights, and it would rattle my barracks room (I remember it causing my VF-0A to tumble off it's shelf one time). Freedom yea-yah! -
I now know more than I did. And have more correct information (on stars and fusion at least). I don't know what you mean. Who doesn't like learning stuff? I don't know what Gubaba's statement was supposed to be getting at but I learned stuff. Thank you.

Who's your favorite Macross Character?
Valkyrie Driver replied to Valkyrie Driver's topic in Movies and TV Series
Only if you follow the movie continuity... I don't know why I just said that like it was a bad thing... I guess I just preferred the series over the movies... -
Robotech RPG Tactics Kickstarter
Valkyrie Driver replied to logos's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I'm pretty sure that the proper way to run a kickstarter is to invest a lot of your own time and money into the development stage of the process, and have a business plan. That's the way you do it to get investors in the real world, business doesn't change just because you have a new source of startup income. You have to have the idea, and the plan in hand, then you take that plan and find out what your operating costs are going to be, then you make adjustments to those costs to figure out what the surplus should be and then you plan a cushion into your budget, then you get current estimates on production costs, and adjust if necessary, and then you go shopping for investors, all the while keeping a handle on how much the end product is going to have to be priced so that you'll be able to cover your operating costs. Kickstarter isn't a magical fix for business, it actually means you have more people to please than you would if you just found some old-fashioned investors. -
Eh, babies are resilient, they bounce... I guess really what it boils down to is should the YF-30 really be the XF-30? Y doesn't mean just mean prototype, the Y denotes a pre-production prototype, while the X denotes an experimental prototype (I know some of y'all know this, but others might not). The JSF program skipped the pre-production prototype competition stage, and just compared the two experimental prototypes (X-32 vs X-35) where the ATF program compared pre-production prototypes (the YF-22 vs the YF-23). Those are just some real world examples that might provide context to the discussion. The Macross universe hasn't always been consistent in these naming conventions to my knowledge). So Those few that have access to that info are all the rest of us have to go on...

Robotech RPG Tactics Kickstarter
Valkyrie Driver replied to logos's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
While I have not personally funded anything on kickstarter, I have some friends who have, and their experiences were generally mixed trending towards bad. Tiny Dungeon and Exploding Kittens are the only things that I have seen come out of kickstarter that were successful in any way. I saw these minis and was tempted to get them for playing battletech, but the minis just didn't scale right so... Am I correct in assuming that this has Harmony Gold's full support? Or will we see this get sued into oblivion? -
Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan)
Valkyrie Driver replied to EXO's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I just found this thread, which is disappointing since I should have found it sooner. I love Attack on Titan, it's doing a lot of fresh new things, as well as doing some old things. I've only ever seen the Anime, both the Subbed and Dubbed versions, and I actually really like them both (I prefer Dubs when I can get them so I don't lose anything if I blink). The live action movie looks ok, but I doubt I'll see it, as it does look a bit hokey. Japanese films, with a few exceptions just don't feel as good as their western counterparts (probably due to the prevalence of animation in Japan over live action, being the reverse of the western world). I eagerly await season 2, and will be watching it subbed when I get the chance. I have been holding off on reading the Manga because I have a mountain of books that need reading.- 353 replies

Agreed. So let's just continue with our discussion. Your last statement also describes a jet engine too (all internal combustion engines really). So basically what we're doing is using superheated and ionized gas (plasma as resulting from fusion) to heat air that gets sucked in through the turbine blades (in atmosphere), and essentially superheat and ionize said incoming air to eject it out the back end of the turbine. While in space we're just using a magnetic field to squirt the plasma out the back. That seems like a really inefficient way to go about doing this, when you could just "burn" plasma all the time. It also seems like it would be more fuel efficient in atmo than in space, since you don't have to exhaust the plasma in atmo. Which means you could essentially just reclaim the "waste material" (the helium atoms, neutrons and electrons) to re use and recombine to replenish your fuel supply, through a separate fission system. Unless the "burner cans" are performing both fusion and fission at the same time, fusing Hydrogen atoms to get helium and fissing (that's probably not even the right word) the helium atoms to get back to hydrogen. If I'm not mistaken that's sort of how the sun does it. The heavier helium sinks and undergoes fission becoming hydrogen which then rises to undergo fusion (I might be very wrong, my knowledge of astronomy, astrophysics, nuclear chemistry, and nuclear physics is practically nonexistent).

So, which is better overall? Arcadia YF-19 or Bandai VF-19 Advance
Valkyrie Driver replied to takatoys's topic in Toys
Well, there are plenty of real fighters that have had glossy finishes... F-80, F-84, F-86, F-100, F-101, F-102, F-104, F-106, F-4, F-15A/B (for a while), F3D, F4D, F5D, F6D, FH, F2H, F9F, F9, F11F, F3H, F8U, F7U... Almost all the Air Force and Navy Fighters of the First and second generations of jet fighters had gloss finishes. -
I agree. M7 wasn't that bad. I mean, it wasn't the best, but it's better than what's come out of America recently...

Who's your favorite Macross Character?
Valkyrie Driver replied to Valkyrie Driver's topic in Movies and TV Series
Very cool. I mean, I don't like musicals, nor would I have understood it, but way to go Macross, crossing genres and bending reality! Let's keep it going. I'm going to apologize once more to anyone I may have pissed off (Specifically Gubaba), I just realized I've been taking my dissatisfaction over being sick, out on y'all. I hate being sick, and trying to cough up a lung every other breath could piss anyone off, so I apologize for my foul mood. -
The Newbie and Short Questions thread
Valkyrie Driver replied to azrael's topic in Movies and TV Series
I love that guy's transformers reviews. I generally hate transformers toys, since they often require a lot of imagination to accept (Masterpiece toys are the exception since they actually try to make a toy that looks right).- 6983 replies

Well... After they get a look at what those blue and red VF's do to their forces...

So, wild conjecture in a thread that is itself wild conjecture, is inappropriate? Duly noted. Was it my Comment about the YF-30's purpose and the statement about the second seat that set you off? Because I'm pretty sure we discussed the YF-30's purpose a few pages back, and I'm pretty sure that's what the info we had was. Now, I'm not going to apologize for not being able to read/write/understand Japanese, I wan't born there, I've never lived there, and learning Japanese is difficult through a computer, much less when technical jargon is involved. None of us are perfect.
