I understand why, the 171 looks so much different, and I actually like the look. Maybe I'm asking too much, but the torso just seems disproportionate.

As promised, pics! Here's the break: here's the screws to remove the leg/intake assembly from the joint: here's the screws to loosen/remove the joint: now, after you remove the screws the joint won't just come apart, there are some grey-green-blue ish retainer/trim pieces that will continue to hold the joint together, those need to come off to completely access the ball. They can be a bit fiddly to get back together, but it shouldn't take long (I have big, ham fisted sausage mitts, so if I can do it, anyone can). From now on be a bit more gentle with the hip rotation for transformation, grip it as high on the intake as you can and pinch while turning to avoid this problem! I really hope this helped!

Macross Δ (Delta) - Mission 1 - READ 1st POST
Valkyrie Driver replied to azrael's topic in Movies and TV Series
Let's not forget that Macross could be like other sci-fi universes, perhaps they are wearing gripper gloves and gripper shoes that adhere them to the valk, and we should also not forget the Barnstormers of old, who did similar things, albeit with slower aircraft. There's definitely precedent for such theatrics and stunts. The VF-171, was busted up, but who knows how bad. The guys were talking about getting a crane to move it, but perhaps that's because there was no one to operate it. Aircraft in the past have flown with worse damage (F-15's and A10's flying home on one wing, for example). I can see how it could be a bit of a stretch, and that's why I'm not jumping down his throat (apologies Duymon, if I sounded like I was) about it. Frankly I kinda liked it, who's to say what workplace shenanigans would occur if we had giant robots...- 262 replies

I really liked the episode, and I really liked Ikenai Borderline. It's catchy and it sold me on the music. I like the new characters a lot as well, I found it easy to care about them. M7 is something I'd only recommend to a Macross die-hard, and Zero was...odd. Frontier and now delta seem to be a bit more solid. To be fair, Alto had more reason to be angst-y than most characters. He was chafing under the expectations of his family and his desires, and had a difficult time finding a middle ground. I think Sheryl turned out to be a bit deeper and more complex a character than people were expecting. I agree though, this seems to be a better set up with stronger characters. Yeah, I can agree with all of that. Ranka seemed to lack confidence, and it seems like Freyja has that in spades. Many people have made a strong case for Mirage as the other point to the triangle, so assuming that's the case, I'm rooting for Mirage. As for the tsundere part, you're probably right. And that's fine. Bear in mind that people do silly stuff at work all the time. I'll fully admit that I have done silly things when given half a chance. I tried to do donuts in a HMMWV just to see if I could (I couldn't), and I danced around being silly in body armor, when it wasn't entirely appropriate. It's not exactly the same, but the general idea is the same. As for the Sailor moon transformations, it could be worse, they could take up full minutes each (as in sailor moon).- 262 replies

That landing gear is a bit goofy, and it scares me a bit for the DX toy. Still, I like to see interesting things on my toys so...

As I understand it, "cultural appropriation" is less about words, and more about ideas and practices, especially from closed religions/belief systems. I know this because a friend of mine is an Anthropology student. I think that it's a load of bunk, but then I'm just a barbarian so... I'm really happy about the news that Yamato is getting a new season, regardless of the title. Also, and interesting note, Yamato featured in a recent presentation I did for my Japanese class.

The Back Connection is plenty solid, and I didn't have an issue with that. What I did have an issue with is how open and empty the figure looked the way bandai did it compared to the Yamato VF-17. I'd just like a better looking battroid.

I'll get some pics up, but essentially what you need to do is take the intake off, and loosen the screws holding the two halves of the hip joint together. That should give you enough slack to avoid the cracking issue I had. I already went ahead and fixed it, however I still have some stress marks where it started. Like I said I'll get pics up, I'm not at home right now, so I don't have access to the toy.

Sorry for the Thread Necro, but I just had a terrifying experience and figured I'd let you all know so you can avoid this issue if you have it. The intake began cracking as I tried to transform my VF-19. it's because the hips are so stiff, which is nice for holding a pose, but there is a range that is stiff as you transform the legs. I haven't gone in and tried to fix the hip yet, as I got it around, but I'll have to sooner or later, and I'll need to get in there with a bit of superglue to fix the cracking.

The Newbie and Short Questions thread
Valkyrie Driver replied to azrael's topic in Movies and TV Series
Did, the EX gear from Frontier not catch on? We haven't seen it in the VF-31 (yet?) or in the VF-171CF (that could just be an old model thing though...). Any thoughts?- 6983 replies

Well, when you consider that one of the primary concerns for designing a valkyrie, is that they must be able to operate in atmo, and on earth like planets, the jet fighter design aesthetic does actually make sense. As for having a bathroom, well, that's why you relieve yourself before a sortie.

I'd get another VF-171 if it came as a CF. But for Pete's sake, please do a renewal, and tighten up some of the mechanism, the swaying hips and the way the back connected left much to be desired. Still I like my triangle, though it needs a new wing pin...

You and me both. I was all set to be disappointed, but damn did they deliver, or what!? Agreed. Though just for clarity, in the frontier love triangle you're talking about Ranka being the hanger on, and Sheryl being the serious contender? That's how I took your meaning. As for the two ladies, well, I don't know which ones it will be, definitely Freyja, but I don't know if it will be Mirage or one of the other Walkure at this point. Unless it's already been confirmed. I'm definitely a fan of Mirage, she's my kind of girl.- 262 replies

Problem with the OV-10X, is while they miight be new airframes, it's a design that's already been retired once, it's doubtful that they'd bring it back. It's a step in the wrong direction, according to current USAF thought. Also, this. -

Yep, dad will recall when they fitted MERs to the B-52 wing racks, that they would hear the inboard bombs bouncing off of the fuselage. This led them to disable the ejector mechanism on the inboard pylons. Also do some of these justify TFOA reports? -
Aircraft Super Thread Mk.VII
Valkyrie Driver replied to David Hingtgen's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I was only making a point to consider about unified forces. The US military shouldn't be completely unified, however, I believe that having only two departments, consisting of two branches each that handle differing but complementary missions, is the goal. USAF would handle all of the army's transportation and air support, as well as the projection of air power towards a specified mission, while the army handles the war on the ground, while USAF ground assets would handle setting up landing zones, coordinating air strikes, combat search and rescue, and aviation support (including providing hydrometerological support for intel breifings). Essentially the Air force's job wouldn't change, however common practices, terminoogy, and culture would sync them together more fluidly with a minimal of retraining, not to mention that their budjet would all come out of the same pot, meaning that the Air Force would get told to shut the hell up about the latest new toy (fighter, bomber or whatever) and the guys that actually need new gear would get it. We've been trying to replace the M9 and M4 for almost 14 years now, because those weapons have proven inadequate for the current conflicts. The Air Force receives a large portion of our Military budget, not as much as the army, but the air force has around maybe a third the number of people than the army (so percentage wise the army receives less money per individual), and the same can be said of the USN and USMC (ships cost a ton of money, who knew?). The Air Force takes it and buys into shiny new programs that are long on promise and short on results. With the F-35 we were promised a jet that could outperform the F16 and A-10 at their respective missions, and what we got, is an aircraft that can't, at best it performs just below those benchmarks. Not bad, but also not what was promised. But the USAF has us invested, and they want to make room for the new toys, at the expense of the mission. Fact of the matter is, you don't need stealth once conventional forces have landed. Stealthy strike fighters are best used to carry out strikes from special operations forces, or as day 1/2 air interdiction. Once the line divisions have boots on the ground, you don't need to worry about stealth, the enemy already knows you're there... I feel that stealth is a necessary capability, but, it's not something to build an air force around. -

Thanks Gerli. That's not the Character I was thinking of, I had him confused with Messer. My dumb. I'm a bit confused by this chaos thing, and delta sqdn, and where it all fits in with the NUNS. ANy links to explanation or source material?
