We've seen, what I can only assume are sensors, on gunpods from the start. Those would most likely be boresighted to the gun itself, and then feed information to the fire control computer on where the gun is shooting, since the zero would most likely change on fighter mode as the craft transformed to and from. I mean, whenever they removed the SUU-16 gunpod on the F-4C/D they needed to boresight it again after reinstalling it. The pod needed to be sighted before every mission, if I remember correctly, as pulling g's with it would knock it out of boresight. The whole arrangement was wildly inaccurate according to my dad, who flew with that set up. We can assume that the gun pods on valks are better, more like the pod on the F-106 or the new one from the F-35B/C. -

So, the only exchange I remember that had anything to do with "dating" was Kaname essentially telling Chuck that men aren't allowed in the Female dorms... Also, Hayate skipping classes makes very little sense to me. If Delta Platoon is a para/military organization, then that would be dereliction of duty. If Delta platoon is a corporate entity, then they'd just fire him. I get the impression that Hayate is making at least some of the classes, as he's learned the basics of flight, and he's got some basic aerobatics training from it. But hey maybe that's me, since I found training fun, and informative. I must say that Hayate has some brass ones, because having a hacked-off zentradi of any size or lineage after you would be a terrifying thing... (recall, it's not just Johnson, it's Mirage too, and she's a Jenius...).- 238 replies

I can get my booster to stay in place, but it doesn't tab in pretty, there's some weirdness with the way my right booster sits. But hey, I wanted it for the fighter and the Plus style super parts and the PPB punch effect, the big wing booster are just a plus for me. I love mine, and now that I've fixed my issue, I'm once more super pleased with my toy.

I'm currently watching Majestic Prince (Ginga Kikoutai Majesutikku Purinsu). It's decent, if a bit simplistic. -

I suppose you're right, though I was referring more to the big mid engine supercars, like the countach, diablo, murcialago, aventador, and the smaller gallardo. Pretty much all the ones from the past 20-30 years or so (the ones that I'm old enough to remember). Though I can't say for sure if any of the later model countach or the diablo had a reputation for bursting into flames. Anyway, enough car talk. Agreed, I do hope we get to see it in action. -

I think that the more accurate car comparison to the Y/VF-19A-E series would be a Lamborghini, big, insane acceleration, bonkers handling, and terrifyingly unstable. The only thing keeping it going in a straight line is the flight control computer. It's much like the F-16 and F-18 in that regard. That's just me, since from everything I've heard the Porsche 911's are rather tame when compared to the big lambo's. Characteristics that seem to be ascribed to the YF-19 and it's successors as well. I also seem to remember seeing a YF-19 paint scheme on an Aventador, but I can't seem to find it now. Following the car analogy, perhaps it's like turning the dial to the track setting... -
It really is a beautiful toy, and a real joy to play with (after you loosen those hip joints though, jeez that's scary). I picked mine up for about 260USD shipped, and had it within a week, and I feel lucky to have one. I have a real love affair with the Y/VF-19 series, as they are just such good looking birds, in fact I started with the Hi-Metal VF-19S, then got a Yamato YF-19, then a Yamato VF-19F, and I still wasn't satisfied, and got the VF-19Adv, which brings my 19 total to 4, I own more of the 19 than any other VF. Now, my collection is not extensive, by any stretch, and it has been at this point the better part of a decade and I have only 16 toys, 15 valks and a tomahawk destroid, 13 of which are 1/60 scale, and 3 are 1/100. My collection has been the better part of a decade in the making. Don't feel bad, It'll likely be a long while before I go purchasing any more of these.

Everyone has different solutions to the problems posed by air combat. Fact of the matter is both types of weapons systems have proven effective in actual combat so there is no definitive right answer. That's an interesting article though. I'd debate your implied premise of the rotary cannons need to get up to speed, you never really give it more than a 1-4 second burst. 4 seconds on an M61 will exhaust the ammo supply on most aircraft, a 1 second burst has proven sufficient for most encounters to get the job done. At this point we're getting into combat doctrine and theory that really doesn't apply to the overall conversation. I was just attempting to clarify some informaton which I perceived as being in error, or having the potential to be interpreted as such. As for the GSh-3-2 exceeding the RoF of the GAU-22, that's not hard to believe, given that the GAU-22 has been mechanically limited to it's 3300rpm, to preserve the 180-220 rounds of ammo the F-35 carries (depending on model). So it does, that's my bad. We can't have a hero valk that doesn't eject spent casings from it's primary weapon, that wouldn't look cool in closeups... It's possible the GU-15 is a 40mm cannon similar to the VF-17's. It may actually be the same gun, just with a different housing. I agree with you on the VF-11, but as it was the spiritual successor to the VF-1, which also had little in terms of internal weapons systems, it makes sense. -

That's true. There is some lag in the rate of fire until it gets going. I thought you were referring to the spool up time as you see it on the minigun. Many people who have never been around these weapons assume they all work like the M134 minigun (I have to make certain assumptions, this is the internet after all...). I see what you're saying about the single barrel cannons not being as ammo hungry, and thus requiring less stored ammo, however the primary reason the US military went to the multibarrel cannon was that it allowed a higher rate of fire, in a single cannon, and thus allowed you to get a pattern (ever tried to shoot a moving target with a single round? It's exceedingly difficult), which increased your probability of kill. Truth be told, you probably use up as much ammo, proportionally, regardless of what cannon you use. We know that up until the VF-25, we were still using chemically propelled projectiles in the gunpods, and we know that it was cased ammo. Some earlier posts by graham have seen Kawamori-sama confirm that the VF-31's guns use cased ammo. Still a good line of reasoning, given that we just don't know. -
Please no. I really like her, she's not had any time to develop as a character, and honestly I don't think Kawamori would do that, he's never killed off an Idol before and I don't think he's gonna start now.

While you are correct that single barrel cannons necessitate a lower rate of fire to avoid melting the barrels, the rate of fire is still respectable. Also, the M61 and GAU-8A do not need to spin up. Those cannons use a linkless feed, and are primed to fire before they take off. The spin up time you see with multibarrel guns is only on the M134 Minigun, as it needs to de-link the ammo and the barrels must be spun up to speed. It also has to do with the fact that the minigun is electrically driven, whereas the M61 is pneumatically driven, and the GAU-8A is hydraulically driven. It should also be mentioned that cannons like the Mauser BK-27 are revolver cannons, which are still relatively bulky. They still consume ammunition at a high rate, and 120-150 rounds is not a lot of ammo. We have seen this in some real world examples like the F-35. Even the F-16 carries 511 rounds for it's gun, and that seems sufficient for a dogfight. We can also assume that after frontier and the introduction of better materials, smaller caliber cannons are becoming more and more prevalent, after all, the gunpod calibers have been shrinking as the franchise progressed. The VF-11 and VF-19 both used 30mm guns, while the VF-25 used a 25mm, and both are much smaller than the 55mm gun used by the VF-1. Not unreasonable to assume the VF-31 might use a 20mm cannon. I just wanted to clear that up. If we're going to discuss this topic, we need to make sure that we have our facts straight. -

It was, but it's kinda set up for a continuation, if I'm not mistaken the manga is still ongoing. I'll tolerate the ending, the Apocalypse Now references were great, and I laughed, and it made me so happy when they played ride of the Valkyries. -

I actually just finished up Gate: Thus the Defense Force Fought. It's pretty good, and I've heard millings that there is a potential for a third season, which I'd be excited to see. It's strangely satisfying. -

Gonna mention that music has been used as a salve for generations. USO tours are a good example, as are performances given in disaster areas. Music can combat the feelings of dread and soothe traumatized minds. It can also bury feelings of guilt and despair. Entertainment is so important that the US has created an entire organization dedicated to it to support those that fight or suffer (the USO does more than entertain the troops, they also help with disaster relief). I think Macross Delta is going to be a fun ride. Also, people keep hammering on the magical girl transformations, and I'm gonna keep hammering on the fact that at least it's not minutes each, and they aren't doing completely implausible things (aside from Mikumo surfing a gerwalk, which is BA I might add...). I'm not a fanatic, but if I had to choose a waifu, it'd be Mikumo, based solely off this episode.- 262 replies

I'm gonna want a 31A, and Mirage's bird. Those are the only two I really care about, since I'm all about team Mirage.

Not bad, It keeps pace with episode 1 pretty well, it's got a fair amount of stuff happening. Would have liked to see a bit more Valkyrie action and little less magical girl silliness, but overall, I'm content.- 299 replies

Touché. I'd like to see the design improved is all. Maybe an extra locking mechanism for the back plate, a redesign on the shoulders, and stronger legs. Oh, and an improvement on the wings, integrated hardpoints and a more solid connection, none of those silly pins.
-
The CG model looks fine, It's how it ends up looking on the toy. The way it all comes together just doesn't seem solid enough.

It's the screws in the third picture, the ones that clamp the ball that need to be loosened. The screws that clamp the leg/intake assembly to the joint housing should be as tight as you can get them so the leg doesn't just come free. You might have lessened the potential for breakage if you have already messed with the joint housing. I'm going to need to be more careful in transforming the toy from this point forward to lessen the stress on that section of the toy.
