I really had no idea how layered so many scenes were. How did the decide what part would be on each? Just based on movements? Also-has anyone ever tried and figured out all the paint codes?
-
That is incredibly awesome. I would totally watch Macross if it was just line art like that, you can see so much more detail in the work! S

The GPB looks fantastic. You are quickly becoming "Nichimo King"

DEFENDER 1/200 kit - a simple mod grants great improvement
Shawn replied to Ranka-Killer's topic in Model kits
Nice adjustment to the model! It look so much better with just that little bit of stance and attitude. S -
That brings a smile to my face when someone discovers something for the first time! It always reminds me of this comic https://xkcd.com/1053/ How I wish I could go back in time and re-discover some Macross items as if it was the first time, ha!!!

It is a retail display-got it for a whopping $18! I'll set it up in a couple weeks with the 3 valks and post a pic how it looks in 'Store Mode'

And to actually CONTRIBUTE something here, how about an old-school Macross 7 Fire Valkyrie Toy Display

Ok, promise I won't talk/derail this thread about Matchbox VF-1S again after this, but ran across this pic from a toy trade magazine on ebay tonight. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Toy-Trade-News-Feb-1986-Dealer-Catalog-Marvel-25-Yrs-He-Man-Robotech-GI-Joe-ARAH/114009106612?hash=item1a8b78e8b4:g:eUQAAOSwr3hd70eO The VF-1S toy actually started out as a transformable toy? This one is in full gerwalk mode, Wonder if it could go to battroid mode. There is a screw in the swing bars that to me implies it could transform. (if this was well known, sorry, I don't know anything about the Robotech toys, just found it interesting.) Dang it...I should have checked this cool site called 'macrossworld' back from 2008..doh! There it is! Wonder where on youtube that video exists. Hey..there is also this new thing called 'google' I discovered too, wow I'm am just rocking it tonight. :P https://robotech.fandom.com/wiki/Prototype_Toy_Presentation S

I've only seen some line art of the valk, and some battle scenes from Delta...but honestly I have no idea how this thing transformed. Wanted to give myself a challenge-could I transform it not knowing what the hell I was doing. I bought a beater 262 on YJ for super cheap (had a locking tab to the fuselage in battroid mode broken, which would not affect transformation), and just using the box propped up on the table to know what pieces generally went where, gave it a try. 5 hours later I was still stuck. I handed it over to my wife and told here 'see this piece is somehow supposed to pivot this way, but it doesn't budge' She tried for an hour and she magically pushed some lever in the belly of the damned beast and it did a big 'whoosh' pivot...meaning the cockpit could finally pivoted around and bammo-got to the next step. Another hour later I had the thing in Battroid mode. Success!! Next day after about 1.5 hours I got it back into fighter mode, where it slept for about 2 months back in the box. Yesterday I broke it out again and tried to go into Battroid mode, and it only took an hour this time, so I did learn something, not sure what though. But getting it back into fighter for some reason still took 1.5 hours. I could not get the little side vents and legs to cooperate. I did curse a little bit. I love and hate this valkyrie at the same time. I've never had a toy so complex, it is a fascinating engineering miracle. I honestly can't believe Bandai actually built this thing. I wish it was just a little bigger so I could get my large monkey fingers into some of the smaller sections. Did I mention it has a lot of sharp pieces, and I mean a lot!!? They poke your skin in just the right areas and inflict actual pain when twisting the torso here and there. It was a constant reminder I did not know what the hell I was doing, and it wanted to let me know it knew that. If you've been sitting on the fence all these years, I'd really recommend getting one of these, as it was an enjoyable challenge!! S

For the Imai Iron Type collectors, wondering what you have! I've been trying to track down the entire collection but have hit a roadblock for the last 10 years. I have 3,5,7,8,9,11 1/100 Destroid Tomahawk 1/5000 SDF-1 Cruiser 1/72 Regult 1/100 Glaug 1/72 Super Valkyrie 1/72 Battroid Valkyrie Do any of you have 1,2,4,6,10? I am looking for real pics of these that I'm missing, to show that I'm not crazy. 1/100 Armored Valkyrie 1/100 Destroid Defender 1/100 Destroid Phalanx 1/8000 SDF-1 Storm Attacker 1/72 Gerwalk Valkyrie Show em if you got em! (And if you want to sell them hit me on PM!) From all the documentation I have it shows there should be 11, but I just can't seem to find these other 5. Have you?

This is a carded bootleg valk from 2000 or 2003 (to give you a time period) I'm personally trying to identify the 3 valkyries they used on the card (all the non 1/55s) The Super Valk, upper left corner The Strike Battroid, upper right The normal fighter, very bottom For these toys they just grab whatever is lying around for the art. But I am racking my brain...the strike battroid in the upper right has familiar elements (like an Imai kit), but leg attachments are WAY off Driving my crazy because I've SEEN that leg joint before, just can't place it....so calling in help! Maybe from one of the Hobby Japan or Model Graphix customs?

Thank you for posting this, very nice review! (I used youtube's closed captioning > english translation service) I had no idea the re-releases used stickers and not decals. You are correct in that cutting those out and applying them would be very challenging. The sculpt of that kit is spot on I think, Nichimo did a great job with something so small. Look forward to seeing more Shawn

Ok, are any of us this bad? Jump to 8:00 and watch for a minute for the reveal and this one around 9:00

Just noticed on that matchbox super armor, that the boosters have that same little angle change on the front/top of the missile pod that the takatoku super armor has Has anyone done a side by side of the 2 armor pieces? How similar are they? Wonder about the panel lines too...

Nice! Have you tried building any of the VFG kits? What is the skill level needed for those vs the regular Delta kits? Are they difficult (meaning insanely small parts like the Hasegawa 1/72s vf-1s which are just frustrating)? S

Might I raise the ante on the Takatoku Henkeis with the Takatoku Chrome/Gold variants? With the head laser landing gear?
-
Here is another reference (from the document of macross) and a closeup of it from the arii vf-1d gerwalk kit which the toy is based on. Google translate says something like "Battroid head variation. The head of the D type was the one before it was changed in the final draft, but it was distributed with the X attached only there at the scene." I NEVER knew about the vf-1d/c head on this kit...I always thought it was just a cruddy sculpt...but the head is distinctly different than the battroid kit and official final art Great find, thanks for sharing this!

He did do a 1/3000 SDF-1 if it helps

For what its worth, I had a shipment go out March 28th via EMS...it got caught in the shipping block, but just arrived today, so for a smaller size box 12x12x6 it took one month. S

Honestly that cel shaded 1/48 really hurts my brain...my eyes can't quite resolve exactly what I'm looking at, but it is there in real life...but it isn't at the same time. Incredible work, I would love to see that in person! Looking at their channel the 1/3000 SDF-1 is mind blowing, the yf-19 looks like CGI, and the Jetfire..LOL! Skill level off the charts.

For you long timers (about 18-19 years ago)....we tried MW Live Chat on the old forums (2001-2003) LOL...I was a renegade back then! I completely support any Macross efforts like this-we are a small community that should always be looking out for each other and sticking together. Newer fans like newer technology and someone should try something like that. That is reminiscent of how Exo took Macross fans to Facebook and started his own thing there. For me (real old school) I like the lazy reading and lazy scrolling and more importantly the never ending history of pictures and messages that get posted here. If I'm away for a week I can always catch up on new things on my own pace. Old man Shawn

I've never seen so many 1/48s in my life in this thread...just jaw dropping amazing collections here!! Found this pic from 2002( I think) from the old MW forums...the 1/48 in exploded mode! (not my pic) Thought it was pretty amazing how many parts they have in these things!
