MACROSS MODELLING Posted June 13, 2004 Posted June 13, 2004 Hi to everybody. Do you remember the college project I exposed here in the forum? the macross 1:10 scale Vf1 Macross Vf1 Scale model Topic Now I have the pictures to show all of you some advance on this assignment. The project is 70% done, there are still some pieces that need to be built, some pieces need to be sanded and polished, but in this pictures you can see the results at this moment. I have to say that my students doesn´t have access to hi-tec tools like CNC or something like that for this project, this is a 100% handmade model, the only tools allowed and used are: a cutter, sandpaper, Bondo, putty, Styrene, RTV silicon and fiberglass for the molds, and fiberglass for the pieces, It´s a really hard job, they need to invest lot of time making this model, If you like it or have any comments, please email me your comments and suggestions, I´ll forward to them, because right now they need a lot of support to finish the model. Thanks. IMAGE GALLERY CLICK HERE Quote

Gabe Q Posted June 14, 2004 Posted June 14, 2004 I think the most impressive part of all of this is the fact that they're not fans of the show. Excellent job! Quote
Cdr Fokker Posted June 14, 2004 Posted June 14, 2004 HOLY *%$&!!! Now that's a Valk. If only it were fully variable... Quote
vt102 Posted June 14, 2004 Posted June 14, 2004 Awesome scratchbuilding. That is one HUGE valk. Can't wait to see it finished and painted. Quote
BoBe-Patt Posted June 14, 2004 Posted June 14, 2004 now, if that thing could transform, that would be the biggest and best valk ever! Quote
wwwmwww Posted June 14, 2004 Posted June 14, 2004 Is it me or is there 2 VF-1s on that pic??? Read the text from his image gallery. I believe they are making 5 of them, one for each student. Carl Quote
Jolly Rogers Posted June 14, 2004 Posted June 14, 2004 Outstanding work. The surface detailing is amazing. Thumbs way up. Quote
crisp Posted June 14, 2004 Posted June 14, 2004 Great Work! Thumbs Up! 5? FIVE? Arh, how heavy are these things? Guys - you need to finish your work, everything until the finish. Maybe you can really show it at the Con. Doesn't anybody have officials contacts??? Quote
MACROSS MODELLING Posted June 15, 2004 Author Posted June 15, 2004 Hi, unfortunately the models wont be ready for your convention, they want to give as much detail to the model as they can, and it will take more than 2 weeks. Yes EXO, you can see 2 of the models in some of the pictures, they plan to build 1 valk. for each one of them. each model weights about 5 to 8KG (10-16lbs) depending on the construction (2 or 3 layers of fiberglass, etc.). keep on posting and giving support to them. Thanks Quote
MACROSS MODELLING Posted June 15, 2004 Author Posted June 15, 2004 (edited) It´s not fully transformable, but has variable angle wings and some of the "hatch doors?" also open to reveal some details. Edited June 18, 2004 by MACROSS MODELLING Quote
Neova Posted June 15, 2004 Posted June 15, 2004 Ever, Your students are doing a fantastic job! Are you reference Design Works for this? Looks incredible. Quote

Gundamhead Posted June 15, 2004 Posted June 15, 2004 'Design Works' is abook full of line art from the animation. They are doing beautiful work! Quote
Myersjessee Posted June 15, 2004 Posted June 15, 2004 Any plans on how each of the 5 will be painted? Custom designs, or will you use the DYRL or Macross standards? VF1A, S, J, D, etc? I can't wait to see all 5 "flying"! Quote
Gerwalker Posted June 15, 2004 Posted June 15, 2004 Ever, excelente trabajo. Mis felicitaciones a tus cinco estudiantes!!! English: Ever, excelent work. Congratulations to your five students!! Tell them to not give up!! The book mentioned by Neova is Kawamori's Macross Design Works that presented all the previous published designs about VFs and also things never published before. It's worth to have it. In fact it could be a source of inspiration for your students since it has many initial sketches showing how the design evolve to the final one for each VF. Quote

Can't wait to see picturess of those hatches and the details inside. It sounds really cool. Here's a picture of the cover of the Design Works book Neova and others were mentioning. edit: woah, that cover didn't look that big in the books sections. VF-1S Alpha Posted June 15, 2004 Posted June 15, 2004 Correct me if I am wrong, did I see fast packs or strike packs on the side? Do you have some pics of the underbelly? So far, your students are really doing a magnificent job... Would they consider making a 1/1 scale of it?! just kidding! Then again, who knows? maybe Hollywood will make it so... Paulo Quote
Sarensaas Posted June 17, 2004 Posted June 17, 2004 Great work. I would have LOVED college if that would have been one of my projects for a class. I'm envious of those students, but the fact none of them were aware of Macross makes it a little more bearable Quote
eugimon Posted June 17, 2004 Posted June 17, 2004 That's amazing work! How about getting another class to make a battroid or gerwalk mode version? Quote
mbs357 Posted June 17, 2004 Posted June 17, 2004 I haven't seen mention of this so far, but do the legs look a bit too short to anyone else? Amazing model though. =D Quote
